PRAYERS.

Ewell Vicarage.

An Order for sequestring the Vicarage of Ewell in the County of Surrey, whereof Rob. Hiliard is Vicar; and for putting in Mr. Edw. Houghton, Master of Arts, a godly, learned, and orthodox Divine; who is appointed to officiate the Cure in all the Parts thereof; and, for his Maintenance, to receive the Profits thereof; was this Day read; and, by Vote upon the Question, assented unto.

Irish Protestants.

The humble Petition of divers distressed Protestants come out of Ireland, was this Day read; and referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland; who are to consider of some fit way of affording them Relief, and to report it to the House.

Sir J. Chapman, &c.

That this House doth nominate and appoint Sir Jo. Chapman Knight, Edw. Higgons Esquire, Captain Tho. Chace, Wm. Cawley Esquire, Stephen Humfrey, Henry Peck, Tho. Middleton, Ralph Cooper, Esquires, Sir Tho. Eversfield of Deane, Mr. Wm. Marlott of Mundham, George Churcher, Henry Bridger, Esquires, Mr. Tho. Farrington Alderman of Chichester, Captain Henry Chettie. . . .

Exchange of Prisoners.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth allow and approve of the Exchange of Mr. Tho. Short, a Prisoner in the Compter in Southwark, for Lieutenant Harris, a Prisoner in Cornewall.

Richmond Curacy.

The humble Petition of sundry the Inhabitants of Richmond in the County of Surrey, was this Day read; and ordered to be referred to Dr. Stanton, to take care to provide an able Curate for the said Place.

Chigwell Vicarage.

An Order for sequestring the Vicarage of Chigwell in the County of Essex, whereof Dr. Utie is Vicar; and for putting in Peter Watkinson, a godly, learned, and orthodox Divine; who is hereby required to preach every Lord's Day; and to officiate as Vicar; and to take care for the Discharge of the Cure in all the Duties thereof; and shall, for his better Maintenance, the Profits, &c.; was this Day read; and, by Vote upon the Question, assented unto.

Countess of Banbury.

Resolved, That the Countess of Banbury, a professed Papist, shall be secured: And that the Lords Concurrence be desired herein.

Message to Lords.

Sir Christ. Yelverton went up to the Lords with the Message Yesterday appointed.

He likewise carried up the Ordinance to make Mr. White, the Lord Fairefaxe his Agent, Clerk of the Assize in the Counties of Oxon, Berks, &c.: The Ordinance for fortifying the Passes in Holland in Lincolneshire.

He likewise carried up the Vote concerning the securing the Countess of Banbury.

Letters, &c. read.

Divers Letters from Hull, from the Committee there, from the Captain of the Antelope, from Sir Jo. Hotham, and Captain Jo. Hotham, and some Evidences against Captain Jo. Hotham, were all this Day read.

Nicholson's, &c. Petition.

The humble Petition of Trulls Nicholson, and Peter Peterson, Masters of Two Ships called the Nitingale, and Tobias of Ribee in Denmarke, was this Day read; and ordered to be referred to the Committee for the Navy, to examine and consider of the Business; and upon Proof, to order Restitution to be made of the Ships, Goods, and Money; and Reparation to be made to the Petitioners, if they shall see Cause.

Examinations of Hotham, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee formerly appointed to take the Examinations of the Conspirators in the late Plot, to take the Examinations of Sir Jo. Hotham, Mr. Hotham, and the other Prisoners, sent from Hull, and the whole Business concerning them; and to do all other Acts, that may tend to the better Discovery of the whole Business, and all the Circumstances of it: And have Power to dispose of the Prisoners in such manner as they shall think fit for their Security, and for the Advantage of the Business: And have the like Power, to all Intents, as touching this Business, as they had in the former Business.

Resolved, &c. That no Member of the House, or any other, shall visit Sir Jo. Hotham, or his Son, or send any Messages unto them, without Leave of the House.

Military Affairs.

A Letter from Sir Wm. Waller, of the Seventh of July, relating all the Passages of the last Battle, and the great Success it pleased God to bless his Forces with, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That Ten thousand Pounds shall be forthwith provided, and sent to Sir Wm. Waller.

Ordered, That all the Monies, that shall come in upon the Twentieth Part within the Cities of London and Westminster, and the Places adjacent within Twenty Miles of London, shall be all applied to the Service of Sir Wm. Waller, and of the Forces under his Command, until the Sum of Ten thousand Pounds be made up; and that those Monies be not issued, upon any Warrant whatsoever, to any other Use; but that they be all paid over to Mr. Hodges, Mr. Stephens, and Mr. Ashe; who are appointed to return the same to Sir Wm. Waller.

Ordered, That Letters shall be forthwith sent to the Committee at Portesmouth, to require them to give Order to Colonel Norton, to march away, with all the Forces they can spare, to the Aid of Sir Wm. Waller.

Ordered, That Letters be written to the Counties adjacent unto Sir Wm. Waller, and under his Command, to send all the Force they can to his Aid.

Ordered, That Letters be written to the Town of Dorchester, to send away all the Forces they can, to the Aid of Sir Wm. Waller.

Ordered, That Mr. Nicoll do prepare these several and respective Letters to be signed by Mr. Speaker, and sent in the Name of the House.

Hull Committee, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee appointed for Hull, to consider of the Petition of Mathew Boncks, Jeofry Slinger of Raisgill in the County of York, Drovers, and Rich. Dawston of Barnard Castle in the Bishoprick of Durham; and that the Hundred Pounds, lent by Sir Christ. Wray to Sir Jo. Hotham, towards the Pay of the Garison at Hull, be repaid him again; and likewise, to deliver the Money, Plate, and Goods, of Sir H. Anderson, to the Lady Anderson, such as, upon Examination, shall appear to belong properly unto him.

Answer from Lords.

Sir Christ. Yelverton brings Answer, that the Lords do agree to the Two Ordinances, concerning Mr. White; and concerning the fortifying of Holland in Lincolneshire: And, as to the Desire touching the Countess of Banbury, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Marten's Regiment.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Kingdom, that are Members of this House; to consider of the State of Colonel Marten's Regiment; what Disbursements he has made in raising and keeping of them; and to make him Satisfaction; and to employ them for the Service of the State, to send them to my Lord General.

Message to Lords.

Sir Rob. Harley carried up to the Lords the Ordinance concerning the grand Butlerage to Sir Wm. Waller: And is to quicken the Lords Answer to the Ordinance concerning the Adventure of Sir Peter Ricaut in the East India Company.

Raising Horses.

Ordered, That the Commission from his Excellency my Lord General, to the Committee of the Militia of the City of London, requiring and authorizing them to pursue the Order of this House for raising and listing of Horses within the Cities of London, Westminster, and Suburbs, and the Places adjacent within Twelve Miles distant of the said Cities, be sent to the said Committee: And the said Committee is hereby required to pursue and put the same Commission in Execution, in all the Parts thereof, according to the Purport and Meaning of the said Commission, and the foresaid Order of the House of Commons: And it is left to the said Committee to print the said Ordinance and Commission, if they shall find Cause.

Messages to Lords.

Mr. Serjeant Wilde carried up to the Lords the additional Ordinance to the Ordinance of Sequestrations; and was appointed to desire the Lords to speed their Answer to the Ordinance of Excise.

Mr. Rob. Goodwyn carried up to the Lords the Ordinance concerning Ireland.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett, and Dr. *

The Lords desire a present Conference, by Committees of both Houses, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, concerning the securing of the Countess of Banbury: They desire your Concurrence in an Order made for Monsieur Chaueyn to transport a Quantity of Lead into France, Custom-free.

The Order was read.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and are now in Business of great Importance; and will, in convenient time, send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Relief of Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom do grant their Warrant to the Treasurer at Wars, forthwith to pay unto Captain Wingate an Hundred Pounds upon Account, to be disposed of for the Relief of the poor distressed Prisoners in Oxon.

Answer from Lords.

Sir Rob. Harley brings Answer, that the Lords do agree to the Ordinance concerning the Office of Grand Butlerage to Sir Wm. Waller: And, as to the Ordinance touching the Adventure, * * * *.

Committees to Scotland.

Mr. Pym reported the Ordinance for constituting and appointing the Committees to go into Scotland; the which was read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto: He likewise reported the Instructions for the Committees; but, in regard it was late, the further Consideration of it was put off till To-morrow Morning.

Bristoll.

Ordered, That the Ordinance, this Day presented, concerning Bristoll, this Day presented to the House by Sir Ph. Stapilton, shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning.

Committees to Scotland.

Ordered, That the Instructions, Letters, and other Matters, prepared for the Committees appointed to go into Scotland, shall be reported and taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning peremptorily, at Ten of Clock; and that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind hereof.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Stephen Marshall and Mr. Philip Nye shall be desired to go into Scotland, with the Committees of both Houses appointed to go thither.

Ireland.

Ordered, That Mr. Reynolds do, To-morrow Morning, report the Declaration concerning Ireland.

Coals for the Mint.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Navy do grant their Warrant for the Delivery of Thirty Chaldron of Sea Coals, to the Master of the Mint. upon Payment for them, for the Furnaces to make the Monies with; and likewise for Thirty Chaldron of Coals for the Officers and Dwellers in the Mint that belong to the Mint, upon the like Condition of Payment for them.

Detention of Ships.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Navy do consider of the Stay made of the Two Dane Ships, and Goods therein, by Sir Jo. Hotham at Hull; and to release them, if they think fit.
