Nov. 3 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton appointing Ralph Cock, of Newcastle, to be assistant to the Company of Eastland merchants in the execution of the powers granted to them by charter for hindering the trade of persons unfree of their Society by stopping and hindering the shipping and landing of all such goods at Newcastle, Sunderland, Hartlepool, Stockton and Whitby if without the Company's warrant. Nov. 4 Money warrant for 1,939l. 2s. 4d. to Lord Widdrington, Governor of Berwick, for the pay of the three companies in that garrison, 1664, June 24, to the 25th inst.: this sum, with the 150l. warranted Jan. 9 last for repairs of said garrison, to be by tallies on the Customs. Treasurer Southampton to Sir Thomas Player, Chamberlain of London, forwarding a copy of the order of the King in Council of date the 11th inst., appropriating to the services of the Navy, strictly and entirely, the second 100,000l. now borrowed of the city: same being decided upon on the report of the Committee of the Council for the affairs of the Admiralty and Navy. "His Majesty being now to give you security for it, the draught whereof is now in the hands of my Lord Major to consider and satisfie the lenders with, I cannot formally give any direcons [money warrants] upon it. But because you know the nature of this sea service and that the not supplying it for any small time may throw that business into a greate backwardness which all our endeavours should be to advance, I pray you to continue your confidence towards the Treasurer of the Navy and to supply to him what moneys you can." York to continue to pay and allow the annuity of 102l. 13s. 4d. to Robert Tompkins (son of Nathaniel Tompkins, gent., who was murdered for his loyalty in the late usurpation), which was granted by the late King: notwithstanding the general stop of the payment of all pensions. Nov. 15 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Receipt to use all pains to get paid into the Receipt the arrear of 75l. owing by the late Bishop of Exeter for Tenths due at Xmas, 1661, and to appropriate same (together with another 100l. due out of the same Tenths at Xmas, 1663) to the payment of the fees due to Sir Ralph Freman, Gervas Holles, and Sir John Birkenhead. three of the Masters of Requests. Treasurer Southampton and Lord Ashley to the Customs Farmers, forwarding a copy of an order of the King in Council made the 16th inst. on the recommendation of the Committee for the Affairs of the Admiralty and Navy, which said order represented that it will be necessary to appoint some persons to take charge of such ships and prizes as shall be seized. and thereupon directed that for the present the Customs Farmers should appoint their officers in the several ports to take the care and charge of such prizes as shall be taken. In accordance herewith direct the said Farmers to appoint two officers in each of the outports for said purpose. Ibid, X. pp. 290–1.

Nov. 22 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Customs Farmers to discharge a seizure of 17 hats belonging to Sir Richard Sandford, Sir Henry Bedinfield and John Jeggom, purchased by them for their own use, being lately in France. Early Entry Book X. p. 292.
Appending:—Note of petition of said Sandford, &c., and report thereon by the Customs Farmers. "The 17 hats doe belong to private Gentlemen who may be ignorant of the prohibition and for their own uses and not as merchandize."
The like for 3 cwt of indigo shipped from Bristol to London by William Stevens, of Bristol, draper, and seized as forfeited for want of a certificate. Ibid.

Money warrant for 371l. 14s. 0d. to Captain William Sheldon, Deputy Governor of Guernsey, for three months' pay of a foot company under his command in that island to date from its first muster: and 100l. for raising and transporting the said company: the above sums, together with 200l. owing to said Sheldon for two years as one of the Gentlemen Pensioners, to be paid out of the chimney money. Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to Francis Stephens, Sergeant at Arms, to arrest the following persons for violently opposing the officers of Edward Chamberlain, Farmer of Excise of co. Gloucester, in the execution of several warrants of distress, refusing the officers entrance into their houses, and denying to pay any Excise at all, viz.: Thomas Bower, of Newent, in the Forest of Dean; Thomas Bosine (Boseme), of Mitcheldean; John Ashton and Giles White, of Lydney; Anthony Hathaway, of Mitcheldean; Edward Parlour (Parlor), of Parkend; Thomas Griffith, of Yorkley; and Jsaac Tyler, William Tyler, Samuel Morgan, Edward Long, of Lydbrook.
