Trade.

Herring trade, Bremen.

Lord Harrington's letter of 31st August, 1734, with the extract of one from Sir Cyril Wich, in relation to the herring trade at Bremen, was read; and ordered that Sir William Chapman and Mr. Elkin should be desired to attend the Board upon this subject to-morrow sennight.

South Carolina.

Report, on Purrysburgh, signed.

The report to the Lords of the Committee upon Colonel Purry's petition, relating to his settlement at Purrysburgh in South Carolina, mentioned in the Minutes of the 29th of the last month, was signed [fos. 150, 219].

Nova Scotia.

Letters and papers from Lieut. Governor.

Four letters from Colonel Armstrong, Lieut. Governor of Nova Scotia, were read, and the papers, therein referred to, were laid before the Board, viz:—

Letter from Colonel Armstrong, dated October 29th, 1733, giving an account of the state of Nova Scotia and the trade thereof, with some projects for securing and improving the same.

Letter from Colonel Armstrong, dated November 10th, 1733, with
Several papers in French, relating to the pretensions of the French inhabitants of Nova Scotia to lands in that province.

Letter from Colonel Armstrong, dated November 20th, 1733, with
The draught of the river of Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia. which, he says, was difficult to effect, and recommends the surveyor to be paid for the same.

Letter from Colonel Armstrong, dated May the 10th, 1724, with
Extracts of Minutes of Council, between the 25th of September, 1732, and the 10th of April, 1734.
Buttings and boundings, quit rents and terms of payment of patents granted by Colonel Armstrong since 23rd November, 1732, to 10th of August, 1733.

Naval stores and other products.

A letter from Colonel Philipps, dated the 3rd of August, 1734, in answer to some queries sent him, relating to the incouraging naval stores and other products not interfering with the trade of Great Britain.

Nova Scotia.

Answer to the Lieut. Governor's letters.

The Board, taking into consideration the draught of an answer to Colonel Armstrong's letters, read at the last meeting, made a progress therein.

Governor written to for account of presents to the Indians.

Ordered that a letter be written to Colonel Philipps, the Governor of Nova Scotia, to know in what manner the presents, sent by His late Majesty for the Indians of that province, were disposed of, the Indians complaining that they never received them, as represented in Colonel Armstrong's letter of the 29th of October, 1733, read at the last meeting.

Jamaica.

Charlton's Act to be confirmed.

The Secretary then laying before the Board an Act, passed at Jamaica in 1731, entituled, An Act to establish, confirm and secure the right and title of the Honourable Edward Charlton, Esq., to three parcels of land in the Town of Iago de la Vega, in the parish of St. Catherine's; Mr. Fane's report thereupon was read, and the Board taking the same into consideration, directions were given for preparing the draught of a representation for confirming the same.

Virginia.

Letter from the Lieut. Governor about boundaries, and a silver mine.

A letter from Major Gooch, Lieut. Governor of Virginia, dated February 8th, 1732–3, giving a large state of the dispute about the boundaries between that government and the Northern Neck, Maryland and Pennsylvania, occasioned by a petition for a new settlement on the back of the Great Mountains, and about a pretended silver mine found there, was read; ordered that a letter be prepared, for transmitting to the Duke of Newcastle an extract thereof, relating to the said pretended silver mine.

Nova Scotia

Letter to Lieut. Governor, signed.

The letter to Colonel Armstrong, Lieut. Governor of Nova Scotia, mentioned in yesterday's Minutes, was agreed and signed.

Jamaica.

Charlton's Act to be confirmed.

The draught of a representation for confirming the Act, passed at Jamaica in 1731, to establish, confirm and secure the right and title of Edward Charlton, Esq., etc., ordered yesterday to be prepared, was agreed.

September 12. Present:–Mr. Pelham, Mr. Bladen.

Trade.

Herring trade at Bremen.

Sir William Chapman and Mr. Elkin attending, as they had been desired, the letter from the Lord Harrington of 31st August, 1734, with the extract of one from Sir Cyril Wich, relating to the herring trade at Bremen, read the 4th instant, was taken again into consideration, and after some conversation with them upon the subject of the herring fishery, Sir William Chapman and Mr. Elkin were desired to put into writing what they had to offer thereupon, which they promised to do accordingly.

Virgin Islands.

Santa Cruz.

Danes settling there.

Another letter from the Lord Harrington, dated September, 11th, 1734, inclosing one from Mr. Coope, with an account of the Danes settling Santa Cruz, was read; and Colonel Hart, formerly Governor of the Leeward Islands, attending, with Mr. Spooner, the Attorney General of St. Christophers, their Lordships, after some conversation with them, relating to the King's title to that island, gave directions for preparing the draught of a letter to General Mathew, Governor of the Leeward Islands, and to the Lord Howe, Governor of Barbadoes, to desire they will send to the Board the best informations they can procure in relation thereto.

King's title to it.

And a letter to the Lord Harrington, with a state of the King's title to the said island of Santa Cruz, was signed.

September 25. Present:–Mr. Bladen.

Santa Cruz.

Letters to Lord Howe and Governor Mathew about the King's title to it, were signed.

The draughts of two letters to the Lord Howe and Governor Mathew, ordered to be prepared at the last meeting, for what information they can procure relating to the King's title to the Island of Santa Cruz, being taken into consideration, were agreed.

September 26. Present:–Mr. Bladen.

The two letters to the Lord Howe and General Mathew, agreed yesterday, were signed.
