Tuesday, July 7. Present:—Lord Monson, Mr. Plumer, Lord Dupplin.

Bahama.

Read a letter from Mr. Tinker, Governor of the Bahamas Islands, to the Board, dated at New Providence, the 10th of April, 1747, giving an account of papers sent with former letters to the Board; ordered that the Secretary transmit to the Secretary of the Admiralty an extract of so much of the said letter, as relates to the want of a guardship, which he desires to be stationed there, in order to lay the same before the Lords of the Admiralty.

Ordered that the receipt of the said letter be acknowledged, and answered by a postscript to the Board's last letter to Governor Tinker, dated the 4th of last month.

Miscellanies.

The Secretary laid before the Board an account of the incidental charges of this office, from Michaelmas to Christmas, 1746, amounting in the whole to two hundred, ninety four pounds, two shillings and seven pence, and a letter to the Lords of the Treasury desiring payment thereof, and of the salaries due to the Secretary and under officers for the same time, was agreed to and signed.

North Carolina.

Read a letter from Mr. Johnston, Governor of North Carolina, to the Board, dated March 9th, 1746-7, transmitting:—
An attested copy of an Act for the better ascertaining the number of members to be chosen for the several Counties within this province, to sit in General Assembly, and for establishing a more equal representative of his Majesty's subjects in the House of Burgesses;
and giving an account of the present state of the Assembly.

Ordered that the above mentioned Act be sent to Mr. Lamb, for his opinion, in point of law.

South Carolina.

Read a letter from Mr. Glen, Governor of South Carolina, to the Board, dated April 28th, 1747, giving an account of the distresses of the Colony, with the causes thereof, and proposing some remedies thereto; mentioning likewise the good correspondence subsisting at present between that colony and the Indians.

Ordered that an extract be made of so much of the said letter, as relates to the Indians, and the draught of a letter prepared, for transmitting the same to the Duke of Newcastle.

Jamaica.

Read a letter from Mr. Trelawney, Governor of Jamaica, to the Board, dated 10th of May, 1747, with his speeches to the Council and Assembly, and their address; also his observations on the Quit Rent Acts of that Island.

South Carolina.

Read two letters from Mr. George Hunter, Surveyor General of his Majesty's lands in South Carolina, and Inspector and Comptroller of his Majesty's Rents, etc., to the Board, one dated December 24th, 1744, the other May 1st, 1745, inclosing the publick papers of his office, and complaining that Mr. Saxby, Receiver General, refuses payment of his salary, and desiring the Board's intercession with the Lords of the Treasury, in his favour; and transmitting:—

An account of the precepts issued from the Surveyor General's office, in pursuance of the Governor's Warrants of Survey, from the 29th of October, 1744, to the 30th of April, 1745. Report No. 4.

Ordered that the Secretary do transmit to the Secretary to the Lords Commissioners of his Majesty's Treasury, so much of the above two letters, as relates to the deficiency in the payment of the salary of the Surveyor General, in order to be laid before their Lordships.

The draught of a letter to his Grace the Duke of Newcastle, for inclosing an extract of Mr. Glen's letter to the Board, having been prepared, as ordered by yesterday's minutes, was laid before the Board, agreed to, transcribed and signed.

Bahama.

Read a letter from Mr. Clevland, one of the Secretaries of the Admiralty, of the 21st instant, in answer to one of the same date, to Mr. Corbett, with an extract of a letter from Mr. Tinker, Governor of the Bahamas, desiring that one of his Majesty's ships may be stationed there.

Plantations General.

Read an Order of the Lords of the Committee of Council, dated the 9th of July, 1747, referring to this Board the memorial of Parke Pepper, late Duty Major at Rattan, in the name and behalf of the inhabitants settled in the Bay of Honduras, together with a letter from the principal inhabitants settled there, to the said Parke Pepper, praying that a Governor may be appointed to reside constantly in Bellise River, and that some forces may be sent thither for the greater security of themselves and trade; whereupon Major Pepper attending, was called in, and laid before the Board a paper, entituled, Farther Reasons for settling the Bay of Honduras; and then the Board, after some discourse had with him on the subject of the said memorial, ordered the draught of a report to the Lords of the Committee of Council thereupon to be prepared.

North Carolina.

Read an Order of the Lords of the Committee of Council, dated July 13th, 1747, referring to this Board the humble petition of the Palatines in North Carolina to his Majesty, complaining of Colonel Thomas Polock for having dispossessed them of their lands in that province, granted them by her late Majesty Queen Anne, and praying his Majesty would be graciously pleased to restore them to the possession of their said land, at any term of rents, under his Majesty, as shall be thought meet; and Morris Walker attending, in behalf of the petitioners, was called in, and the Board, after some discourse had with him, came to a resolution to write to the Governor of North Carolina to get information from him of the state of the case, and accordingly the draught of a letter to the Governor was ordered to be prepared, and copies of the said order and petition to be made, in order to be transmitted therewith.
