Treasury warrant to the Clerk of the Pipe for a new lease to Edward Broomley [Bromley], gent., of the office of gauger of all hogsheads, pipes etc. of wine, honey, oil and other gaugeable liquors within the port of Bristol; as granted 1661–2, Feb. 17, to Nicho. Burroughes for 21 years at 9l. 2s. 0d. per an. rent payable to the Exchequer or to the sheriff of Bristol, which lease is for some time expired and the rent unanswered to the Crown. The Treasury Lords to the Lords Justices, Ireland. In the Treasury letter of 1692–3, March 16, to the late Lord Lieutenant, concerning the several estates claimed by the Earl of Bath and by the Duchess of Devon[shire] as Guardian of Sir Laurence Esmond, his Excellency was desired to enquire into the Crown title, and failing a Crown title then to give possession to the person entitled lawfully at the time of the seizures. Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue 30,000l. to the Earl of Ranelagh out of the surplus or remainder of the Additional Excise granted by 4 Wm. and Mary [c. 3], which at the end of the first year did remain after paying or leaving sufficient to pay all the several proportions of the yearly fund and all the annuities, rents and yearly payments and all interest payable by the said Act, which remainder, if any, is thereby enacted to be to the use of their Majesties: the present issue to be for the following purposes, viz.: l. The Treasury Lords to Tho. Tutt, esq. By the late Act [5 and 6 Wm. and Mary, c. 14] every man who has 300l. stock [personal estate] is obliged to pay 40s., and every man who has 600l. stock [real or personal estate] is to pay 4l. We are informed that, notwithstanding said Act, none who have such stocks within the tything of Mattingley, co. Southants, do pay for the same, “whereby some of their Majesties' [Assessment] Commissioners do refuse to act till the said tything of Mattingley do pay as the said Act directs and as other tythings and parishes in the said county do pay.” Send us forthwith an account of this matter. Same to the Earl of Ranelagh to report on the enclosed memorial [missing] of the Earl of Carlisle concerning a respite on his pay as Governor of Carlisle. Ibid.
Treasury warrant to the Attorney General to enter a noli prosequi upon the information against a parcel of old-fashioned silks mixed with gold and silver which Samuel Wyld of London, weaver in Spittlefields, had by him, which would not sell in England, of which he entered a part in March last on the Amelia, John Robinson master, for Jamaica, which Wyld entered as wrought silks, and accordingly took out his coequet, but same was seized on the quay by Mr. Canby, a deputed searcher, on the ground of wrong entry, as they should have been entered as silks mixed with gold and silver, wrought silks paying a penny per pound by the Book of Rates, but silks mixed as above being ad valorem: but petitioner being poor and ignorant, with a great family, and intending no fraud. Treasury reference to Sir Robert Howard, Mr. Wardour and Mr. Lownds of the petition of Robert Fowle and Thomas Wotton, goldsmiths, shewing that they advanced 500l. at the current rate to one Robert Parks, “who was entrusted [with a post] at the Exchequer [said advance being made on credit of money clue] upon an order on the Vote of Parliament, and [petitioners] was told there that the order was good, but was afterwards told the said Parks had fraudulently stolen the said order and forged the assignment”: therefore praying relief therein, “inasmuch as it was not possible for them to discover the same” Reference Book VII, p. 58.

We recommend you earnestly to receive [sic for review] the said duplicates and to make such alterations and amendments therein as shall be agreeable to the Act of Parliament for said Poll.
