Mr. William Aldham and the others with him in the [money] order of July 30 last, supra, p. 721, are to have the benefit of the letter [of 1691, July 8, supra, Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. IX, pp. 1221–2], concerning Exchequer fees. Disposition Book XII, p. 118.
Same to the Farmers of the Lotteries forthwith to pay into the Exchequer last June 24 quarter on the rent of your farm, “and that for the future you punctually pay in the same according to the tenor of your indenture.” Ibid.

We are informed that in the execution of your trust you have not only been careful to ease yourselves, but have also neglected the due charging of others to the said tax. Same to the Treasurer of the Navy. At several times in Feb. and March last my Lords appointed money out of the 4s. Aid to satisfy bills of exchange drawn on you by Col. Kendall and Col. Codrington from the West Indies, amounting to 3,508l. 9s. 11½d. On application from the Navy Commissioners my Lords have since directed that money to be applied to imprests and to answer other bills of exchange relating to the Navy and that the aforegoing bills should be satisfied out of other moneys since assigned [to you] or put into your hands for that purpose. You are therefore to apply the abovesaid sura to imprests and to the said other bills as the Navy Commissioners shall appoint and to discharge the, West India bills out of the said last assigned moneys. Same to the Commissioners for Hackney Coaches, enclosing the memorial [missing] of John Nicholson, a poor Hackney coachman. My Lords look upon his case to be very particular and desire to know why he was not licensed. Ibid, p. 283.
Same to the Commissioners for taking Subscriptions for the Bank of England to pay 4,000l. into the Exchequer to-morrow morning without fail out of the 300,000l. received by you for the first quarter of the Contributions on the Act for said Bank: for the following uses, viz. 2,000l. for Charles Bertie. Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to make an allowance as follows by way of rebate or deduction upon payments of the duties upon Tonnage of shipping (the rate allowed by the Act 5 and 6 William and Mary, c. 20, for said Duties being 10 per cent. on the paying same down in ready money or giving security to pay same within one month after clearing the ship), viz. that all such persons as shall within 15 days of the clearing of the ship pay in their money shall enjoy the whole month's discount; and such as shall not come until 15 days after clearing shall have no pretence to the benefit of the discount for the residue of the unexpired days of the month. Aug. 3. Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to pay the assessments to the 4s. Aid on Customs officers' salaries not above 60l. per an. and to reimburse such assessments already paid by such officers. Out Letters (Customs) XIII, p. 108.
Treasury reference to the Commissioners for Sick and Wounded of the petition of Richard Holder of London, merchant, for 109l. 4s. 0d. for the transportation of 168 persons to Calais by direction of said Commissioners being prisoners at war said petition being referred to the Treasury from the Privy Council July 26 last. Treasury warrant to Philip Ryley, Surveyor General of Woods, Trent South, to fell 88 loads and 63l in value of old and decayed trees not fit for the Navy in Wakefield Walk in Whittlewood Forest, and to apply same to the repairs desired by William Ryder, Lieutenant of said forest, and Master Keeper of said Walk, viz. for a substantial fence to the Ring Mound mowing grounds about the lodge for want of which said grounds are constantly spoiled and the deer die in great quantities for want of hay and a short paling near the lodge. Henry Guy to the Commissioners of Accounts in Ireland. In yours of the 21st ult. you remind my Lords of the Lords Justices' recommendations some time since for payment of your salaries. I am to inform you that the Lords Justices' letter of 1693, Oct. 28, mediated the continuance of your salaries at 250l per an. till your commission should be determined, but their letter of 1693, Nov. 4, recalled that letter and desired that it might be of no weight with my Lords. Royal warrant, under the Queen's sign manual, to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal to constitute Sir Samuell Dashwood, Sir Stephen Evance, Sir John Foche, Francis Parry, William Strong, Thomas Hall and Edward Clarke, John Danvers and Foot. Onslow as Chief Commissioners and Governors of Excise and to bring in the arrears of Hearthmoney all in place of the said Dashwood, Evance, Parry, Strong, John (now Sir John) Foche, Nathaniell Horneby, John Wilcox, junr., Thomas Hall and Thomas Aram with like salaries and powers as in the said previous Commission. Royal warrant to the Earl of Ranelagh to pay 30l. 10s. 0d. to Major Henry Hickman for the pay of himself and servants for the respited period as below he being a Captain in the Duke of Bolton's Regiment of Foot and his Company being ordered in June, 1692 (being then in garrison in Chester Castle), to march thence to Carlisle, but the said Hickman remaining at Chester till further order, for which reason he was absent from the muster taken at Carlisle for June and July following. Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue the 4,000l., ut supra, p. 738 (out of the fourth part of the Contributions to the Bank of England), as follows, viz. 2,000l. to the Treasurer of the Ordnance for fitting out the [Artillery] Train and bomb vessels now at Portsmouth and 2,000l. to the Treasurer of the Navy for Sick and Wounded 1,200l. thereof to be charged to the head of wages and 800l. to the head of Victualling. Treasury reference to the Navy Commissioners of the petition of John Creed, master of the ship Pembrooke, shewing that when the said ship was taken by the French he received a wound which has lost him the use of his right hand and arm, but same not being certified by the Captain the Chest at Chatham refuses to settle any allowance on him for it therefore praying the same allowance as in like cases. Aug. 8. Henry Guy to Mr. Blathwayt. In reply to yours of the 2nd inst., signifying the King's pleasure as to the payment of 100l. as recruit money to each Troop of Col. Wynn's Dragoons remaining here [in England] and 100l. to each Troop more on account of arrears, the Treasury Lords have put 400l. into the hands of the Earl of Ranelagh for that purpose. Please also inform the King that the business of the Earl of Scarborough which you intimated to me in your said letter is effected. Out Letters (General) XIV, p. 283.
Aug.11. Same [to the Auditor of the Receipt]. My Lords lately directed 550l. to the Paymaster of the Works, ut supra, p. 732, for building a new wall at Kensington. Since then they are informed that the same should be issued upon the unsatisfied order in Mr. Henning's name for the service of the Gardens, because the said work relates thereto. You are therefore to issue said 550l. to Henning and not to the Works. Disposition Book XII, p. 20.
My Lords desire that the 100l. royal bounty each to Lords Euro, Morley, Willoughby and Hunsdon may have the benefit of the letter [of 1691, July 8, supra, Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. IX, pp. 1221–2], relating to fees.

Aug. 11. Henry Guy to the Navy Commissioners. In reply to yours of the 7th inst. relating to the disposition of 819l. 4s. 11d. of thirds of prizes which is in the Treasurer of the Navy's hands, “my Lords being at present adjourned, I have had no opportunity of laying it before them, but shall with the first [opportunity] take their Lordships' directions therein.” Out Letters (General) XIV, p. 283.

Aug. 14. Same to the Prizes Commissioners. There are two ships laden with Bay salt lately taken prize, the one brought into Plymouth June 5 by their Majesties' ship Adventure, the other brought into Plymouth July 5 by their Majesties' hired ship Society. It is the Queen's pleasure that the said salt be bought for their Majesties' service. Please take care that same be bought accordingly. Out Letters (General) XIV, p. 283.
Entry of a Treasury caveat in behalf of John Ford, searcher of Chichester port, that till he be heard by counsel no pardon or other discharge be passed at the Treasury to any of the following, against whom he has exhibited informations for importing French silks and lace to the value of several thousand pounds within three years last past, viz. Stephen Seignoret, John Gaudett, Francis Grabar,—Auriol, Andrew Pansier, Bartholomew Midy, Peter Gorrey, John Dumaitre, Peter Barillian, David Barrow,—Wayembert, Isaac Rickesey, Isaac De la Croix.
