PRAYERS.

Recruiting the Army.

MR. Whittacre reports from the Grand Committee of the whole House, the Proceedings, Votes, and Resolutions, of the Grand Committee, upon the Ordinance for recruiting the Army, under the immediate Command of his Excellency my Lord General.

Resolved, &c. That the Army shall be presently recruited.

Resolved, &c. That no Order is to be given, in this Ordinance for a future Recruiting.

Resolved, &c. That a certain Sum of Money shall be appointed Monthly, to be paid for the Maintenance of the Army under the immediate Command of my Lord General.

Resolved, &c. That Thirty Thousand five hundred and four Pounds shall be the certain Sum appointed Monthly to be paid for the Maintenance of the Army under the immediate Command of the Lord General, together with the Train of Artillery, Reformadoes, Intelligence, and other incident Charges thereunto belonging.

Resolved, &c. That Twenty thousand Pounds shall forthwith be provided, out of the Excise or otherwise, towards the recruiting of the Lord General's Army, with Men, Horse, and Arms, and towards the providing of Ammunition.

Resolved, &c. That the Sum of Six thousand nine hundred sixty-two Pounds Four Shillings and One Peny shall be set upon the Cities of London and Westminster, the Hamlets of the Tower, the Borough of Southwarke, and all other Parishes and Places within the Lines of Communication, and Weekly Bill of Mortality:

Upon the County of Middlesex, without the said Limits, the Sum of One thousand ninety-seven Pounds Eleven Shillings.

Upon the County of Surry, without the said Limits, the Sum of Five hundred eighty-seven Pounds Eleven Shillings One Peny;

Upon the County of Sussex, the Sum of One thousand eighty Pounds Five Shillings Five-pence;

Upon the County of Bucks, the Sum of Four hundred one Pounds Seven Shillings;

Resolved, &c. That the Counties of Southampton, Northampton, and Berks, shall be omitted, and left out of this Rate.

Ordered, That the House doth allow to the County of Kent, towards the great Charge they are now at for the Publick, in sending Forces to Sir Wm. Waller, and into Sussex, the Sum of One thousand three hundred fiftyeight Pounds Two Shillings One Peny, Monthly; to continue during the time of this extraordinary Charge.

Resolved, &c. That there shall be set upon the County of Kent, comprehending the City and County of the City of Canterbury, and Cinque Ports within the County of Kent, the Sum of Three thousand three hundred fiftyeight Pounds Two Shillings and One Peny.

Upon the County of Essex, the Sum of Three thousand three hundred fifty-eight Pounds;

Upon the County of Norfolk, comprehending the City and County of the City of Norwich, the Sum of Three thousand two hundred ten Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Two-pence;

Upon the County of Cambridge, with the Isle of Elye, the Sum of One thousand three hundred fifty-one Pounds Eight Shillings and Nine-pence;

Upon the County of Huntington, the Sum of Eight hundred two Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Three-pence;

Upon the County of Bedford, the Sum of Nine hundred Fifty Pounds Two Shillings and One Peny;

Upon the County of Herts, the Sum of One thousand four hundred fifty-seven Pounds Seventeen Shillings and Nine-pence;

Resolved, &c. That this Assessment shall continue for Four Months.

Resolved, &c. That whereas Twenty-seven thousand eight hundred twenty eight Pounds, to be raised upon the Counties, is to be made up Thirty-thousand five hundred and four Pounds, for the monthly Maintenance of the said Army; It is Ordered, That the Surplusage, to make up that Sum, shall be monthly paid out of the Excise.

Resolved, &c. That the Number of the Foot of the said Army shall consist of Seven thousand five hundred Soldiers, besides Officers; and the Number of the Horse shall consist of Three thousand Troops, besides their Officers.

Resolved, &c. That the first Month's Pay, mentioned in the said Ordinance, shall be paid in, by the several Counties, upon the Thirtieth Day of January next; and so from henceforth Monthly, according to the said Ordinance.

Whereas Twenty-seven thousand eight hundred twentyeight Pounds, to be raised upon the Counties, is to be made up Thirty thousand five hundred and four Pounds, for the Monthly Maintenance of the said Army; and the Money, assessed upon the Counties, may happen to come in but slowly, and not to be paid at the several Times appointed in this Ordinance; That such Monies, as shall not then be paid in by the said Counties, shall be, from time to time, Monthly paid out of the Excise, not exceeding the Sum of Ten thousand Pounds Monthly, for the Maintenance of the said Army, by way of Loan, until the said Counties make Repayment thereof.

Transactions with scotland.

Sir Christ. Yelverton is appointed to go to the Lords, to desire a Conference concerning some Letters and Papers received from the Commissioners of both Houses, now residing in Scotland.

Sir H. Vane Jun. Mr. Solicitor, are appointed to manage this Conference.

French Ambassador.

Ordered, That the French Ambassador shall have a Warrant, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, for Monsieur De Meilleray, and his two Servants, and an Interpreter, to go to Oxford, to carry such Letters as are signed with the Prince D'Harcourt's Hand; and to bring back Letters directed to him; provided the said Prince D'Harcourt pass his Word, upon his Honour, to send to the Parliament such Letters, as happen to be in the Pacquet directed to him, and that belong to other Persons.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Exchange of Dr. Soames, Prisoner to the Parliament, for Mr. Symon Crocher, Vicar of Cosham, in the County of Wilts, now a Prisoner to the King's Forces at Bristoll, and Mr. * Barnard, a Prisoner likewise to the King's Forces; provided Care be taken the said Two Persons be at Liberty, before Dr. Soames be discharged.

Popish Recusants.

Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hill, Mr. Prideaux, Sir Arthur Hasilrig, Mr. Holland, Mr. Young, Mr. Cage, Mr. Lisle, Alderman Pennyngton, Mr. Solicitor, Serjeant Wilde, Sir Anthony Irby, Sir Peter Wentworth, Mr. Gourdon, Sir Walter Erle, Sir John Clotworthy, and Mr. Blakiston, or any Four of them, are to consider of the Statute 35 Eliz.; and to find out an expedient Course, that those Statutes, that are made against Popish Recusants, may not be put in Execution against Protestants: And are to meet on Friday next in the Star Chamber; and so from time to time, when they please.

Trial of Fines

Ordered, That Mr. Browne, Mr. Pury, and Mr. Bainton, be enjoined to go to St. Albane's, to be examined by the Council of War, upon the Trial of Mr. Fines, if there be Cause to examine them.

Excise Account.

Sir Arthur Hasilrigg presents the Account of the Commissioners of Excise for this First Quarter: Which is ordered to be referred to the Committee of the Safety.

Husbands' Petition.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of Martin Husbands be referred to the Committee for Sutton's Hospital.

Flower's Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of Mr. William Flower be referred to the Committee for Sequestrations, of Lords and Commons, for the Petitioner's Relief.

Person sent for.

Resolved, &c. That Walter Higden of the Parish of Flamsted, in the County of Herts, shall be forthwith sent for, as a Delinquent; being a Person that hath expressed great Disaffection to the Parliament; and, in particular, to Sir Thomas Barrington, who is so much employed in the Service of the Parliament and Kingdom.

Bailing Burdett.

The humble Petition of Joan Burdett in the Behalf of her Husband Richard Burdett, was this Day read: Whereupon

It is Ordered, That the said Richard Burdett, now a Prisoner in Newgate, shall be forthwith bailed: And that Mr. Alderman Pennyngton do take the Bail: And the Keeper of Newgate is hereby required forthwith to bring the said Richard Burdett before Mr. Alderman Pennington, to be bailed accordingly.

Barwicke Garison.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, that the Garison of Barwicke is to be paid, from the Time that the Fifty thousand Pounds, last sent into Scotland, was received there by their Brethren of Scotland, as Part of the Army that is to be raised for the Assistance of the Kingdom of England.
