Oct. 1. Money order for 150l. to George, Visct. Grandison, Edw. Villiers and Elianor Villiers, executors of Dame Barbara Villiers for last Michaelmas quarter on the grant of 600l. per an. to her for 21 years (from 9 Aug., 1660, as by the privy seal of 1667, Aug. 20), in satisfaction of the 2d. per tale of every pound Troy of silver coined for the King. Oct. 4. Treasury reference to the Commissioners of the Mint of the petition of James Hoare, Comptroller of the Mint, for a grant to his son Martin Hoare of the place of Chief Clerk of the Mint, void by the death of Corney Frowde. Reference Book I, p. 138.
Henry Guy to the Customs Commissioners to certify the Treasury Lords whether the brandy as in John Purvys's petition was taken in within the Downs, which is within the limits of a fort assigned by law: and whether oath has been taken before the Barons of the Exchequer by the seizers concerning the brandies so taken in. Out Letters (General) VI, p. 97.
Same to the Auditors of Imprests and Auditor Shales to report whether the debt be rightly stated in the enclosed copy [missing but see infra, p. 707] of a royal warrant for the payment of a debt to the Eastland merchants [and the other Navy creditors on account of a war against the French King]: and what this half year's interest of the whole debt amounts to. Ibid.
Money order for 20,000l. to Richard Kent and Charles Duncombe in repayment of so much lent by them this day to the King [into the Exchequer]: with 6 per cent. per an. interest and 4 per cent. per an. reward payable at the end of every three months. Order Book XXXVIII, p. 166.
The like for 14,615l. 5s. 10d. to same in repayment of said sum this day lent by them into the Exchequer: with like interest and reward. Ibid.
Oct. 5. Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue 2,000l. to Sir William Temple out of loans paid into the Exchequer yesterday by Mr. Duncombe, viz.: 1,500l. for equipage as Ambassador to Spain and 500l. as part of his extraordinaries as late Ambassador at Nimuegen and Holland. Same to same to issue 1,191l. 5s. 10d. to Dr. Taylor [for the Duchess of Portsmouth] out of the loans made into the Exchequer yesterday by Mr. Kent and Mr. Duncombe. Ibid.
Money order for 359l. 1s. 10d. to Edward Seymour, Treasurer of the Navy, in further part of 58,400l. for the hulls, masts and yards of 4 of the 30 ships of war (2 second rates and 2 third rates) as by the privy seal of 1678–9, Mar, 19, and the Act for the [1677] Seventeen Months' Assessment. Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Nicholas Braxton to be admitted a tidesman extraordinary London port till a vacancy happen. Reference Book I, p. 138.
Henry Guy to the Ordnance Commissioners. You have not sent the account as desired Sept. 2 last, how far the usual allowance of the Offices of the Ordnance was paid at Lady day, 1679, and whether any tallies struck upon the Customs before Lady day, 1679, were to be applied to carry on the service of that Office beyond that time. Send it to the Treasury Lords forthwith. Out Letters (General) VI, p. 98.
Same to the Auditor of the Receipt, forwarding a letter from the Commissioners for Disbanding [the Forces raised since 1677, Sept. 29, as by the two Acts for the Disbanding]. Ibid.
Appending: copy of said letter, undated, but signed by Ro. Whitley and [Sir] Tho. Player. "The following particulars are supposed to be given upon mistake by debentures in hurry of business," viz.: (the five items verbatim as supra, p. 696 to Clarges, Baderman, Coleman, Johnson and Powell). "We desire a stop may be put to payment of the above sums till further examination of the accounts, and if all or any be found to be justly due you shall have notice from" us.
Same to the East India Company. His Majesty's affairs stand in need of ready money to supply some necessary occasions of the Navy. The Treasury Lords desire you to make present payment of the balance of the Customs due on the goods imported by you wherefor you have two six months' time allowed by your charter. In consideration of this advance you shall be allowed 6 per cent. discount and a warrant shall be directed to the Customs Cashier for the [formally] regular allowance of such discount. Ibid, p. 99.
Same to the Customs Commissioners. Send on Thursday to my Lords your report upon Mr. Fanshawe's last paper sent to you concerning the rules for settling the coast trade and taking of coast bonds. Ibid.
Same to Mr. Blathwayt. As Sir Richard Dutton has all his despatches ready for his departure to his Government of Barbados you are to prepare for the Treasury Lords what you think necessary to be recommended to his care in relation to the King's revenues arising in that island. Same to the Navy Board. My Lords have perused yours to me of the 4th inst. and do approve of the two persons you have pitched upon to go to Sherwood Forest. When they are ready to go my Lords will furnish them with the necessary letters and instructions. Out Letters (General) VI, p. 99.

Oct. 7. Henry Guy to the Customs Commissioners, conveying the Treasury Lords' recommendation of George Webster for a noon tender's place London port void by the death of Richard Boone. Reference Book I, p. 139.
Same to the Auditor of the Receipt to certify the Treasury Lords how much money is charged upon the last Disbanding Act, and what thereof is paid and what unpaid. Out Letters (General) VI, p. 101.
Same to Mr. Blathwait to attend the Treasury Lords next Saturday morning with the accounts of Virginia which you lately received from Lord Colepeper. Ibid.

Treasury warrant to the Customs Cashier to allow a discount of 6 per cent. to the East India Company for 6 and 6 months on the Customs of the goods which they have lately imported from the limits of their charter upon the ships Golden Fleece, George and Success, the said Company being willing for his Majesty's service to pay said Customs in ready money although by their charter they have two six months' time [for payment thereof]. Money warrant for 1,000l. to Heneage, Lord Finch, for last Lady day quarter on his annuity or yearly pension as Lord Chancellor. Ibid, p. 238.
Henry Guy to the Customs Commissioners to deliver to bearer, on payment of duty, the 2 cases of roots of flowers now in the [London Customs] warehouse, one directed for the King, the other for the Earl of Clarendon. Out Letters (Customs), p. 269.
Oct. 9. Same to Auditor Done to let Mr. Blathwaite have recourse to, and to copy, Lord Vaughan's Jamaica accounts, as he pleases. Out Letters (General) VI, p. 102.
Same to Col. Norwood. You have not answered the request of June 17 last to let the Treasury Lords understand by what right or title you had received the quit rents of Virginia for divers years past and in what state same remained. Send an answer hereon forthwith to my Lords. Ibid.
Oct. 9. Henry Guy to Sir James Shaen, forwarding papers [missing] about remitting quit rents to the Duke of York. Peruse the draft of the [royal] letter for remitting to said Duke the quit rents which are reserved upon two patents therein mentioned, and consider whether the words in the said draft are not so comprehensive as to discharge more than 134l. 7s. 4d. per an., which [alone] is intended, and whether they will not extend to remit the said quit rents for longer time than the lands (whereupon they are reserved) have been in the Duke's possession. The Treasury Lords to Sir Martin Westcomb. his Majesty's Resident at Cadiz, St. Mary's and the Districts thereof. We have yours of Aug. 27 intimating that before receiving the last orders [from England] you had directed 20 horses and 120 loads of straw to be bought. The Privy Council hereupon orders that what thereof you have bought you send over to Sir Palmes Fairborne at Tangier. You are also to send to him the remainder of the 20,000 pieces of eight, who will receive our direction to apply said remainder for his Majesty's use in said garrison. Ibid, p. 107.
