PRAYERS.

Collecting Assessments.

ORDERED, That the Captain of the Trained Bands attending the House do send half a Dozen Musketteers, with the Collectors that are to gather the weekly Assessments, to such Places and Houses as shall refuse to pay their Assessments; and that the Collectors from time to time shall have Power to desire such-like Assistance from the Captains that wait, as they shall have Occasion.

Ship Rubye.

The humble Petition of Rich. Wilshere, Master of the good Ship called the Rubye, of London, and the Ship's Company; employed by Contract with Commissary Frost, by Appointment of the Parliament, to carry Victuals, and other Necessaries, to Carrickfergus, for Use of the Forces in Ulster, was this Day read: And thereupon

Ordered, That the Treasurers for the Subscriptionmonies, if Money be there; or else the Treasurers for Contribution-monies for Ireland, do forthwith pay unto the said Richard Wilsheire the Sum of Three hundred and seventy-three Pounds: And that Mr. Jo. Goodwyn do give the said Master and Company the best Assistance he can to procure them their Money speedily.

Nottingham Committee, &c.

Some Instructions for the Gentlemen to observe, that are sent from the Committee at Nottingham, to solicit their Occasions here * *

Ordered, That all the particular Businesses sent up from the Committee at Nottingham concerning Serjeant Major Ballard, and other Particulars, be referred to the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom, with an especial Recommendation from this House; and that they do consider of them this Afternoon.

Delinquents Estates.

Mr. Strode, Sir H. Vane, and Mr. Glyn, are appointed to write a Letter to my Lord General, concerning the putting in Execution, in all Places under his Power, the Ordinance for sequestring and seizing the Estates of notorious Delinquents.

Nottingham Committee, &c.

The Gentlemen from the Committee of Nottingham were again called in; * * * *

To have Power to distrain upon Delinquents.

That a Letter might be written to the Earl of Kingston, to desire his Lordship to lend to the Committee at Nottingham, Two thousand Pounds.

Sir Tho. Hutchinson; and Mr. Millington, are appointed to prepare a Letter, to this Purpose, to be sent to the Earl of Kingston.

Intercepted Letters, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Corbett, Mr. Whittacre, and Sir Walth. Erle; do examine the Apothecary (with whom Letters were intercepted; that were going to Oxon) about the French Letter written in Characters; and to inquire out the Writer of that Letter.

Sir Wm. Allanson, and Sir Jo. Harrison, are appointed to search the Waggon, that is going to Oxon; and if they find Arms, Ammunition, or Money, in it, to make Stay of it.

Mr. Dowse is appointed to send the Letters.

Treaty with the King.

A Letter from the Committee at Oxon, of the Twentyeighth of March, intimating a Desire from his Majesty, that the Time given to the Committee of both Houses, to treat, might be inlarged, was this Day read.

That the Business of this Letter shall be laid aside at this time.

Intercepted Letter.

A Letter from Mr. Endimion Porter, of the Twentyfourth of March, to Mrs. Porter, in which there was a Clause, that imputes the Causes of these Distractions to some four or five ambitious Villains, &c. was this Day read, and re-delivered unto Mr. Pym, who brought it in; being intercepted by some of my Lord General's Forces.

Aylesbury Garison.

Whereas the Committee for the County of Bucks did, by virtue of the Ordinance of both Houses, of the Twenty-ninth of November, raise Monies within that County, monthly, for Pay for the County Soldiers within the Garison at Aylesbury, and for the making of Fortifications there; but now, the said County being taxed, by the late Ordinance of both Houses, at the weekly Sum of Four hundred and Twenty-five Pounds, for the Maintenance of the Army raised by the Parliament, the said County is not able to bear both the said Taxes: it is therefore Ordered, by the and Commons, that the said Committee shall, out of the said weekly Sum of Four hundred and Twenty-seven Pounds, pay and allow, for the Maintenance of the County Soldiers in the said Garison, and for the finishing and maintaining of their Works, and other Extraordinary Charges incident unto that Garison, the weekly Sum of Two hundred Pounds; for which nevertheless, the said Committee shall be accountable unto this House, how the said Money is, or shall be, disbursed, for the Purposes aforesaid.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Winwood is appointed to carry up to the Lords, this Order concerning the County of Bucks; an Order past here 4 Februarii, concerning the Town of Yarmouth: and was to desire the Lords to sit this Afternoon.

Lords desire a Conference.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Rob. Riche and Mr. Page;

The Lords desire a present Conference, by Committees of both Houses, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, concerning a Letter they have lately received from the Earl of Northumberland.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Mr. Holles, Mr. Grimston, Mr. Hatcher, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Winwood brings answer, that the Lords will sit this Afternoon, at Five of Clock; and, as to the Ordinances carried up by him, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Delinquents Estates.

Ordered, That Mr. Serjeant Wilde, Mr. Cage, and Mr. Strode, or any Two of them, do take care for the speedy sending into the several Counties, by express Messengers, the Ordinances for the Sequestring the Estates of notorious Delinquents, to be published in the several Counties.

New England.

This Committee is appointed to consider of the Petition of divers Persons, inhabiting within the Province of New Somersetshire, in New England; and are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Court of Wards; and have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records; and are to meet hereafter at such time and Place as they shall think fit.

Removing of Capuchins.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Dr. Heath;

The Lords desire a present Conference, by Committees of both Houses, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, concerning some Reasons presented by the French King's Agent, concerning the Removal of the Capuchins.

Answer returned by the same Messengers, that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will give a present Meeting, as is desired.-

Diftraining for Assessments.

Ordered, That the Serjeant's Man shall take with him the Assistance of so many Musketeers, as he shall think fit, to distrain for the raising of the weekly Affeffments; and that he shall have Power to break open the Doors, where he finds Resistance.

Bollen's Pass.

Ordered, upon the Question, That James Bollen, a Merchant, who had a Ship and Goods stayed and seized at Falmouth, shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to go to Oxon, to solicit the Delivery of the said Ship and Goods.

Message to Lords.

Sir Jo. Clotworthy went up to the Lords, to desire their Lordships to sit a while; and carried up the Orders concerning Ireland, reported by Mr. Jo. Goodwyn, Martii 22; and was to move the Lords to give an Answer to the Vote of this House, concerning the constituting of the Lord of Inchiquin Commander in Chief of all the Forces in Munster.

Letter to be examined.

Mr. Rous, Mr. Cage, Mr. Grimston, Mr. Marten, Mr. Wheeler, are appointed to consider of the Letter informed of by Mr. Speaker, and delivered unto him by one Mr. Freeman; and to examine the Truth of the Copy of it.-

Removal of Capuchins.

Mr. Pym, Mr. Marten, Mr. Grimston, Sir Jo. Clotworthy, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Rous, Mr. Strode, Mr. Tate, Sir Ro. Harley, Mr. Goodwyn, Mr. Serjeant Wilde, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Mr. Marten reports from the Conference, that the French King's Agent informed their Lordships, that there was an Order made in this House, for the removing of the Capuchins from the Place where now they are, and from the Kingdom; that there has been formerly some Conferences concerning this Business; that they had agreed with this House in most Things; that this Business now depended in their House, and related to their Privilege; that they were not satisfied in all these Particulars; that they desired to preserve a good Correspondence in all Things; and that they desired this House would take the Reasons presented by the French King's Agent to their House, into Consideration, as They had already done in their House.

Ordered, That the Reporters of the last Conference, or any Three of them, do prepare Heads for a Conference to be desired with the Lords this Afternoon, concerning the Removal of the Capuchins; and to present them to the House this Afternoon.

Ordered, That the Committee formerly appointed to remove the Capuchins, do take care to seize and secure the Persons of them; and to deface the Altars, and other superstitious Pictures and Matters, in their Chapel; and to lock up the Chapel Door.

Affairs of Exeter.

ORDERED, That Simon Corbett Provost, shall forthwith send Jo. Benfield Moneyer, to the City of Exon, with Wm. Goble Goldsmith; who are to repair to the said City about the Affairs of the King and Parliament; and this House doth also require and enjoin the said Wm. Goble and Jo. Benfield, that without Delay, (all Excuses laid aside) they speedily repair unto the said City.

Nottingham Committee.

A Letter to be sent to the Earl of Kingston, for the borrowing of Two thousand Pounds, to be lent to the Committee at Nottingham, for the Service of the Parliament, was read; and ordered to be signed by Mr. Speaker.

Removing Capuchins.

Mr. Serjeant Wilde presented, from the Committee, divers Reasons for the removing of the Capuchins, and of the Orders lately made by this House, and the Prosecution thereupon to that Purpose: The which were read; and most of them, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto.

Payment to Frost.

Ordered, That the Treasurers for the Contribution Monies for Ireland do forthwith pay unto Mr. Frost, out of the said Monies, Five hundred Pounds, laid out by the said Mr. Frost, by Order of the Commissioners for the Affairs of Ireland, for providing of Corn for the Affairs of Ireland.

Seizing Horses, &c.

Ordered, That the Members that serve for the County of Kent, and the Deputy Lieutenants, shall consider of the Letter this Day read, from Sir Mich. Levesey, concerning the seizing of Horses; and of the Ordinance for seizing of the Estate of Persons ill-affected: And are to report their Opinions unto this House: And to call Sir Michael Levesey unto them.

Muskets, &c. for Sussex.

Ordered, That Mr. Stapley shall have Licence to convey by Sea, into the County of Sussex, One hundred Muskets, Rests, and Bandaliers, for the Service of that County.

Jermyn's Petition.

Ordered, That my Lord Gray of Wark' be acquainted with the Petition from Sir Thomas Jermyn, by Sir Henry vane, Mr. Cage, Sir Nathaniel Barnardiston, and Mr. Heveningham.

Ordered, That Mr. Browne, Keeper of Somersetthouse, be summoned to attend this House.

Capuchins Vestments, &c.

Ordered, That all the Vestments and Utensils, belonging to the Altars and Chapel of Somersett-house, be forthwith burnt; and that the Committee for the Removal of the Capuchins do give Order for the burning of them.

Capuchins Convent.

Ordered, That the Committee, formerly appointed concerning the Capuchins, shall have Power to examine further after the Pope's Bulls, by whose Authority this Convent has been constituted here in England, and by whom those Bulls were procured, and who had a Hand in the introducing this Convent, and planting of it in this Kingdom.

Lucie's Pass.

Ordered, That Sir Richard Lucie, Knight and Baronet, shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass the Sea into France, with Three Servants, and their Baggage.

Reade's Pass.

Ordered, That Mr. John Reade, of Graies Inn, shall shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass the Sea into France, with Two Servants, and their Baggage.

Restoring Ogleby's, &c. Swords.

Ordered, That Colonel Ogleby and Captain Marshall, who had their Swords taken from them by the Court of Guard, shall have their Swords forthwith restored unto them.
