PRAYERS.

Middlesex Arrears.

ORDERED, That the Commissioners for the County of Middlesex do call together the Collectors of the Monies upon the Bill of Four hundred thousand Pounds, to give an Account of their Collections, and of the Arrears of the Money remaining in their Hands; and do require and enjoin them to bring in their Arrears, and to perfect their Accompts.

Norfolk Delinquents, &c.

Ordered, That the Knights and Burgesses of the County of Norfolk, and City of Norwich, do meet together this Afternoon; and send to the Committees in Norfolk the Names of such Papists, and other notorious Delinquents, whose Estates are to be seized, by virtue of the Ordinance for seizing the Estates of notorious Delinquents.

Ordered, That Mr. Corbett do prepare an Ordinance for rating such of the County of Norfolk, as have not contributed unto the Propositions.

King's Servants.

The humble Petition of his Majesty's Coachmen, Littermen, Sumptermen, and Grooms of his Highness Stables, was this Day read.

Suspected Persons.

An Ordinance for searching for suspected Persons was read, and recommitted unto Mr. Bond, Mr. Glynne, and Sir H. Vane.

Affairs in Exon.

A Letter from Mr. Prideaux from Exon, of the First of April.

Ordered, That Mr. Young do write unto Captain Chudleigh, and take Notice of his Service, and return him Thanks for it; and desire him to go on, and continue his Services in those Parts in this Kingdom, until be receive further Order from this House.

Committees added.

Ordered, That Sir Sam. Rolle, Sir Jo. Northcott, and Sir Jo. Bampfield, be added, as Committees, to Mr. Prideaux and Mr. Nicoll, in pursuance of the Instructions and Orders given to the said Mr. Prideaux and Mr. Nicoll.

Earl of Essex's Estate, &c.

A Warrant, under the Hand and Seal of the Office of William Comberford, High Sheriff of the County of Stafford, for seizing the Estate, Personal and Real, and the Debts, of the Earl of Essex.

Resolved, That all the Estate of my Lord Capell, Real and Personal, be assigned to my Lord General; towards Satisfaction of the Rents, and other Estate, Personal and Real, taken from my Lord General, by a Warrant from the Sheriff of the County of Stafford: And that the Lords Concurrence be desired herein: And that it be recommended to the Committees of both Houses, to take Order in the disposing of it accordingly: And Mr. Glyn and Mr. Marten are appointed to prepare an Ordinance to this Purpose.

Loan from the City.

Resolved, &c. That this Undertaking of the Court of Aldermen, to give their Securities, to advance, by way of Loan, Forty thousand Pounds, for Supply of the Army, is a great, and an acceptable Service; and that they shall have Thanks for it.

Resolved, &c. That an Ordinance shall be brought in for their Security, to be repaid upon the weekly Assessments.

Weekly Assessments.

An Ordinance, touching some Encouragement to be given to the raising and collecting of the weekly Assessments, was this Day read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Message to Lords.

Ordered, That a Message be sent to the Lords, to desire that the Committee of both Houses, concerning the effectual and speedy Execution of the Ordinance for the seizing the Estates of notorious Delinquents....; and that the Vote Yesterday passed, concerning the Committees at Oxon....

Business deferred.

Ordered, That the Business concerning the Navy, the Business concerning Sheriff Langham, and then the Business of Hull, be taken into Consideration presently after the Conference.

Lords desire a Conference.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edw. Leech and Dr. Bennett;

The Lords desire a Conference, by Committees of both Houses, presently, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, concerning some Matters touching the Queen.-

May's Imprisonment.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Rob. Riche and Mr. Page;

The Lords have been moved in the Behalf of Mr. Adrian May, now a Prisoner at Coventry: He is a near Kinsman to the old Lady Campden; and the main Matter of his Subsistence is from the Hopes and Bounty of that old Lady. His desire is, only that his Imprisonment may be removed from Coventry hither, that he may be near to that good old Lady, from whom he expects his Subsistence. The Lords are very well inclined to grant this Request; and desire this House to concur therein.

Ordered, That Answer shall be returned to this Message, that this House will return Answer by Messengers of their own.-

Conference agreed to.

Answer returned by the first Messengers; that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Mr. Holles, Sir H. Vane, Mr. Pym, Mr. Reynolds, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Irish Affairs.

Two Letters from Ireland, one of the Three-and-twentieth, another of the Twenty-fourth of March, relating the Extremities and Necessities of those Parts, in regard of want of Shipping for that Harbour of Dublyn, and of Monies, Victual, and Ammunition, were this Day read.

Loan for Navy.

A Letter, of the First of April, from Chatham, from the Earl of Warwick, relating the State of the Navy, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Navy do meet this Afternoon, and treat with the Commissioners about the Loan of Twelve thousand Pounds; and, if they cannot procure it of Them, that then they employ their Endeavours to procure it somewhere else, to be repaid upon the present Collection of the Customs; not crossing any former Order or Ordinance.

Customs.

Mr. Bond, Mr. Hoyle, Mr. Beddingfield, Mr. Spurstoe, Mr. Holland, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Bence, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Blakiston, Mr. Rolle, Mr. Peregrine Pelham;

This Committee, or any three of them, are appointed to meet, when and where they please, to receive the Accounts of the old Commissioners of the Customs; and to use their best Endeavours to get in such Monies as shall be due upon those Accounts: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records, &c.

Satisfaction to Batten.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom do make Satisfaction to Captain Batten, for such Monies as he has disbursed out of his own Purse for the Service of the Garisons at Deale, &c.

Harbouring Mariners.

An Ordinance concerning the harbouring of Mariners pressed to serve in this Summer's Fleet, by Alehousekeepers, Innkeepers, &c. was this Day read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords To-morrow, for their Concurrence.

Customs.

Resolved, &c. That the Commissioners of the Customs do give Order to their Collectors at Hull to pay all such Monies, as shall come in upon those Collections, unto Sir Jo. Hotham, upon Account: And that he charge them by Bill of Exchange, upon Sir Gilb. Gerard, Treasurer at Wars here; to be by him satisfied and paid to the Commissioners of the Customs here: Who is ordered, upon Sight of the said Bill, to make present Payment of the said Monies to the said Commissioners: And this Course to continue, until the House take further Order.

Stores for Coventry.

Ordered, That Twenty great Saddles and Bridles, Ten Case of Petronels, and Twenty Carabines, be forthwith delivered, out of the publick Stores, to Mr. Jesson, for the Service of Coventry.

Desertion of Sir Hugh Cholmeleye.

A Letter from Hull, of the One-and-thirtieth of March, relating at large the State and Manner of Sir Hugh Cholmeleye's deserting the Parliament, was this Day read; and ordered to be printed.

Seizure of Corn, &c.

Ordered, That a Stay be made of all Suits commenced against Mr. Ledgar, Mr. Lawson, or Mr. Netsfield, or any of them, for seizing the Ship of Corn, &c. that was going to Newcastle for Relief of the Enemies there, and making Sale of it for Pay of the Garison at Scarborough, as the Ship of Robert Anderson's, and others.

Ordered, That Mr. Wasthall do write to Mr. Ledgar; and let him know what Opinion this House hath of his good Service; and to return him Thanks, and to encourage him to continue.

Langham's Currans.

After a long Debate, touching Sheriff Langham's having Licence to unlade and vent his Currans;

The Question being put, whether Sheriff Langham should have Leave from this House to unlade and vent his Currans, notwitstanding the former Order;

The House was divided:

Sir Christ. Yelverton, Sir Philip Stapilton, Tellers for the Yea: With the Yea, 36.
Mr. Holles, Sir Jo. Evelyn, Tellers for the Noe: With the Noe, 72.

So that the Question passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That Sheriff Langham shall have a Month's time to transport his Currans beyond the Seas.

Military Affairs.

A Letter from Sir Jo. Hotham, brought by Sir Matthew Bointon, without Date, relating, at large, Sir Hugh Cholmeleye's deserting the Parliament, and desiring Two thousand Muskets to be sent down into those Parts, for arming the Country there, upon all Occasions; and relating, that most of the Officers of Sir Hugh Cholmeleye's have likewise left him; and that some of them are come to Him; and that he has given them what Encouragement he may; was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That Thanks be returned to Sir John Hotham, in Acknowledgment of his good and faithful Service; and that he be acquainted, how well this House approves of his Service and Directions timely made in regaining Scarborough, and in bestowing Commands upon those Dutchmen, that have been so faithful to the Trust reposed in them by the Parliament: And that the Desire, in the Letter expressed, of being furnished with Two thousand Muskets, be especially recommended unto the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom.

It is further Ordered, That so much of the Letter, as concerns the retaking of Scarborough, be printed; together with the Relation sent from Captain Legard to Mr. Wastall, a Member of this House.
