Sir Edw. Gyles reneweth the Motion, for all the Members of this House to receive a Communion.

Members to receive the Communion.

Sir M. Fleetewood seconded the Motion; and moveth, a publick Fast before: 1. For a Blessing from God upon the King: 2ly, For the Miseries of the Christian Churches beyond Seas: 3ly, For a Blessing upon our Navy: 4ly, In respect of the grievous Visitation now upon us, by the Plague. - To have a Day before the Communion, for a private Fast amongst ourselves. To have an Order for this amongst ourselves; not general as last Time.

1. Upon Question, a Communion by all the Members of the House; without One Negative. - Upon Sunday next.

General Fast.

Sir W. Strode moveth for a general Fast; and that the King may be moved in it by some special Persons. The Place, St. Margaret's, in Westmynster. The last Order read.

Sir Francis Barrington, Sir Edw. Gyles, Sir Francis Goodwynn, Sir Wm. Pitt, Sir Edw. Wardor, and the Clerk of the House, to see the Order performed, which now read, and allowed. Mr. Hackett to be the Preacher.

Mr. Coriton moveth for a certain Day for a Fast amongst ourselves.

Mr. Pymme, accordant: - Yet moveth to have it general ; and to send to the Lords, to join with us in Petition to the King, for his Direction in it. - A Committee, to draw a Petition; and then to send to the Lords, to join in it.

Mr. Whitson, Sir Edw. Wardor, accordant: - For no such Cause for a Fast last Parliament, as now ; in respect of the Plague, and other Occasions.

Sir Francis Goodwynn, contra: - For our doing it, a Means to draw on the general. - We may now order it for ourselves: The insisting upon the general may lose the particular.

Mr. Wentworth, contra: - To have it general. Mr. Cage : - To settle the particular first, and then to petition for the general.

Upon Question, a general Fast amongst ourselves, upon Saturday next. - Three Preachers; Mr. Shute, Lombardstreet ; Dr. Preston, Dr. Westfeild, Sir A. Ingram, Sir M. Fleetewood, Sir Rich. Newport, to move them from the House. The Place St. Margarett's, Church. To begin at [Nine of] the Clock.

Upon Question, a Petition to his Majesty for a general Fast,

Mr. Solicitor, Sir Nath. Rich, Sir Francis Seymor, Sir James Fullerton, Sir B. Rudyard, Serjeant Ashley, Mr. Pymme, Sir Francis Goodwynn, Sir Ro. Phillippes, Sir Ro. Carre, to draw this Petition,: - This Afternoon, Two Clock, Exchequer Chambe.

Sir Tho. Jermyn : - To move the Lords, to join with us in this Petition, after it is framed, and agreed upon. - Agreed.

Sir Geor. More moveth, that this Petition may not be delivered to the King, nor any Motion to the Lords, till our Fast past.

Warrant for new Elections.

A general Warrant to Mr. Speaker, to make Warrants for new Elections, during all this Parliament, upon double Returns, Deaths, or Remove, &c. - Agreed.

Sir Geor. More moveth also for a Committee for Privileges. - All Petitions, about Elections past, to be brought in, within One Week; and so a Week after, for such, as shall be made hereafter. - Not resolved.

Election of a Person in execution.

Mr. Sanders tendereth a Petition against Sir Wm. Cope, by the Lady Coppyn, and her Son : Which, by Direction of the House, was read in the House.

Sir Wm. Cope moveth this may be referred to the Committee of Privileges.

Mr. Brooke: - The only Point, whether one, in Execution before the Summons of Parliament, be eligible here, or not.

Serjeant Ashley: - The Questions Two: 1. Whether Sir Wm. Cope in Execution before the Summons of Parliament : 2ly. Whether he come hither by Habeas Corpus, or not: For now some plead by Habeas Corpus, other preach so ; and now, if they would sit here so, all the Prisons of England may be emptied thus.

Sir Ro. Phillippes secondeth the Motion : - Yet considerable, whether this Time fit to receive Petitions against Courts of Justice, &c. -

Adjournment.

For Mr. Mallory his Motion ; rare, at the Beginning of a Parliament, to petition to be put off; but consider now of the Danger of the Plague, with other Circumstances, and it will be very considerable, whether not fit to petition the King to defer the Parliament to some other Time or Place.
