March 26. Royal letters patent appointing James Roscow, Esq., to be Receiver General of Virginia (Receiver General of all and singular our Revenues, Duties and Imposts arising and growing due to us in our Colony and Dominion of Virginia) loco William Byrd thereto constituted by patent, dated 1705 Oct. 17, with an allowance of 3 per cent. of his receipts, which allowance was augmented to 5 per cent. by a royal sign manual dated 1709–10 Jan. 25: the said Byrd's patent not having been confirmed by the present King and being therefore void: which Duties, Imposts and Revenues so received by him are to be answered and paid towards the support of the Government of Virginia according to such warrants as he shall receive from time to time from the Lieutenant and Governor General or the Commander in Chief thereof, “our revenue of Quit Rent only excepted,” which is to be paid and issued according to such especial warrants or orders as shall be given by the King to the said Governor or Commander in Chief or to the said Roscow from time to time: all by reason that for the support of the Government within the said Colony and Dominion there is a revenue arising and accruing unto us by a Duty of 2s. per hogshead of tobacco exported thence, also an impost of 15 pence per ton for every ship trading there; and 6 pence per poll for every person imported there: and also the further revenue arising unto us by a quit rent of 2s. for every hundred acres of land held of us; as also [casual revenue arising] by Fines, Forfeitures, Escheats and otherwise. The said Roscow is to have the like allowance of 5 per cent. of his receipts as his predecessor had. March 26. Royal warrant to the Warden, the Master Worker and the Comptroller of the Mint to give liberty to the gravers of the Mint to make such medals from time to time of fine gold and fine silver, for the improvement of the art of engraving, as do not relate to State affairs; taking care that such of them as shall be for the rewarding persons for good service to us have impressed upon them the service for which such medals were given with the date: and further to direct the said gravers to make such other historical medals (in memory of great actions) as shall be approved of by you and in order thereto to make such embossements, puncheons, dies and other instruments as shall be requisite: the late Queen Anne having by her sign manual dated 1706 Nov. 2 (for the better exercise of the art of graving and that the gravers of the Mint might not lose the skill which they had acquired), granted leave for the said gravers to make and sell such medals not relating to State affairs [ut supra, Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. XXI, p. 86]. My Lords are informed that very great wastes have been committed in Enfield Chase by cutting down young oaks, beeches and other trees, which [if left] would arrive to the growth of timber. I am to acquaint you therewith that you may give such directions therein as may prevent the like abuse for the future. Ibid.

Same to same of the petition of Joanna Oakes shewing that her late husband, Henry Player, was proprietor of several lands lying in Alverstoke, Co. Southampton, which (with some land of one Woodman) are now vested in the Crown pursuant to an Act 8 Anne, c. [23, for vesting lands for fortifying Portsmouth &c.]: therefore praying a lease of the premises under the limitations directed by the said Act. Ibid.
Letters patent by William Blathwayt (constituted by patent of Charles II. dated 1680 May 19 Surveyor and Auditor General of all his Majesty's revenues arising in America) appointing Joshua Jones to be his Deputy within the Leeward Caribbee Islands to inspect, examine and state all accounts of all such rents, revenues, prizes, fines, escheats, seizures, forfeitures, Duties and profits whatsoever arisen within the said Islands since the beginning of the first war between Charles II. and the Dutch, with power to recover same by all lawful ways and means and to cause same to be paid to the proper officers for his Majesty's use: the said Jones to transmit every six months to said Blathwayt all accounts so by him inspected, examined and stated, and an account of all moneys by him recovered as above.
