Mercurii, 21o Januarii, 1628

Members to receive the Communion.

ORDERED, That all the Members of the House, newly returned, or to be returned this Session, shall receive the Communion before some of the Parties, appointed the last Session : Those, which are already returned, and have sat in the House, to receive it before Monday next; and those, which are, or shall be, returned, and have not sat in the House, not to come into the House, till they have so received the Communion.

L. 1a. An Act against Begging of Forfeitures, and other Things, before Attainder, Judgment, or Conviction.

Call of the House.

Upon Question, Ordered, The House shall be called upon Monday next.

Enrolment of Petition of Right.

Mr. Selden, Mr. Hackwyll, Mr. Littleton, Mr. Noy, Mr. Mason: This Committee is appointed to search, whether the Petition of Right, and his Majesty's Answer thereunto, be enrolled in the Parliament Roll, and in the Courts at Westmynster, according to his Majesty's Pleasure, signified the last Session; and in what Manner the same is entered; and report the same to the House :

And this Committee hath also Power to search the Journal-book of this House, of the last Session, what hath been entered therein sithence the End of the said Session, and by what Warrant: For the first Part, to meet this Afternoon; for the other Part, to have it presently done in the Committee Chamber.

Thereupon the said Committee, with the Clerk withdrew into the Committee Chamber, and there viewed the Clerk's Book, and the Entry of his Majesty's Speech.

The same being reported by the Committee, and after read in the House: Ordered, That the said Committee shall take Consideration of the Matter, so entered ; and to view, and search for, any Precedents, they shall think fit; and to present their Opinions thereof to the House, upon Tuesday next; that thereupon the House may proceed, as it shall find fit. The said Committee to meet this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Inner Temple Hall, Sir Jo. Ellyott, Sir Ro. Phillippes and Mr. Pymme, and Sir Nath. Rich, added.

Liberty of the Subject.

Ordered, upon Question, That the whole House, being resolved into a Committee, shall take into Consideration those Things, wherein the Liberty of the Subject hath been invaded, against the Petition of Right: The Time to be upon Tuesday Morning at Nine of Clock.

Printing Petition of Right, &c.

The King's Printer sent for, to know from him, by what Warrant he entered his Majesty's first Answer to the Petition of Right, and his Majesty's Speech in the End of the last Session of Parliament; and whether he did not first print the Petition of Right, with his Majesty's last Answer only.

And being called in, the Bar down, and the Serjeant standing by him with his Mace, and those Questions being asked by him; he answereth, he did it, by Warrant, either immediately under the King's Hand, or from the Clerk of the Parliament: And confesseth, he printed many of the Petitions of Right, with the King's last Answer only, without his first Answer, or last Explanation ; but that he published none of them.

He withdrawing, and called in again, and asked by Mr. Speaker, by what Warrant or Authority he suppressed the first Edition of the Petition of Right, and printed the other,

with the Addition; he answereth, he is sure, they had a Warrant, but remembereth not, whether immediately from the King, or from the Lords.

Hereupon Mr. Selden, Mr. Kirton, Mr. Vaughan, and Mr. Sherfeild, and Sir Wm. Earle, required from the House, to go home with Mr. Norton, and to inform themselves from Mr. Byll, and him, by what Warrant they did it; and to take a Copy thereof; and to report the same to the House To-morrow Morning.

Clerk of the Crown to attend.

The Clerk of the Crown to be warned to appear here, To-morrow Morning, about the Writ issued out, for Choice of a Burgess for Hertford, in Sir Ch. Morison's Room.
