July 16. Money order for 20l. to Richard, Earl of Ranelagh, Ranger of Cranborne Chase, for hay for the deer in said Chase for one year ended at Lady day 1708. Order Book VII, p. 185.
J. Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to the Customs Commissioners to send an officer to the house of the Ambassador from the Czar of Muscovy to seal his goods in order to his return home. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 442.
Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Queen's Remembrancer for stay of process against Sir Thomas Littleton on his accounts as Navy Treasurer, which he is prosecuting with all diligence. Warrants not Relating to Money XX, p. 221.
[?] Report by same to the Queen on the memorial from Lord Lovelace, Governor of New York, relating to stores of war proposed by him to be sent to New York. I have asked the Principal Officers of the Ordnance for an account what stores have been sent thither, what account they have of them & what they think may be further necessary at this time for the said Governor, Lord Lovelace, to take along with him. The proportion of the stores contained in Lord Lovelace's demand which they think most necessary they estimate at 6782l. 15. 2½. As they may be much wanted I have no objection to their going by the first opportunity. But as the Board of Ordnance report that they have no account of the remains of stores in that Province I think it for the safety of the several Colonies & Plantations that the respective Governors should send an account as soon as may be of the remains of all ordnance stores and also to send the like accounts once a year.
Appending: (a) said report from the Office of Ordnance dated July 8 inst with a schedule setting out the details of the said proportion of ordnance to be sent to New York. The ordnance stores sent thither between 24 March 1700–1 and 9 Feb 1701–2 amounted to 942l. 13. 1 since which time several applications have been made by the Agents of that Province for further supplies but none has been ordered. We have only an account of the expence [expenditure] of the stores there from May 1702 to Feb 1704–5 but from that & from the information of Col. Romer (who in 1706 was Engineer in that Province) we believe stores are very much wanted. Nothing is given by Parliament to the Ordnance Office for supplying New York or any other of the Plantations with stores. We therefore hope you, the Lord Treasurer, will be pleased to direct money to defray the expense for what shall be ordered to be sent.

July 16. Commission by Treasurer Godolphin to Thomas Bingham to be surveyor of the Duties on Houses loco Dennis Nevill, who is hereby superseded.
(Dormant warrant dated Aug 9 to the Receiver General of Taxes for Co Derby to pay said Bingham 50l. per an salary as from 1708 June 24.) Out Letters (Affairs of Taxes) I, pp. 151, 154.
Warrant by same to the Customs Commissioners in Scotland to employ John Nepper, William Trepland, James Cowrea & George Grayes as boatmen at Leith locis William Firguson, Walter Gabriel, Mathew Limburner, & James Kilpatrick who decline to serve in that employment. July 17. Warrant dormant by same to the Commissioners for Transports to pay 100l. per an to Thomas Micklethwaite, Receiver & Paymaster of the Transport Service, as an additional allowance as from April 14 last (the time of his appointment) in consideration of the multiplicity of the business of his office & his extraordinary expense for clerks. July 18. Money warrant for 538l. to Hen Davenant, her Majesty's Secretary at Frankfort, for 9 months, 1707 Sept 29 to 1708 June 24, on his ordinary of 40s. a day. Ibid., p. 323. Order Book VII, p. 173. Disposition Book XIX, p. 192.
July 19. Royal warrant dated Windsor Castle, to Treasurer Godolphin to pay an additional salary of 500l. per an to John Scrope, one of the Barons of the Exchequer Court in Scotland: in regard of his having left the practice of the bar here in order to apply himself to the said service: to be paid as from Lady day 1708 in like manner as his salary of 500l. per an directed by the privy seal of May 13 last. Same to same for 20000l. to John Tailer, Deputy to Samuel Travers Surveyor General of Crown Lands: to be applied towards building the Duke of Marlborough's house at Woodstock. Same to same to pay 55l. to the Corporation of Windsor, for the damage which hath or may arise to the tolls of Windsor bridge by the erecting the new free bridge at Datchet; 25l. to John Andrews one of the undertenants of the said Corporation “in satisfaction of the like tolls” & 20l. to John (Thomas) Bryers another of their undertenants who had been at expense in mending the way at Hogg Hole & had fenced in & planted aytes on 31 acres of land in a narrow slip left out of the enclosure next the Thames, in recompense of his losses by the levelling the banks & hedges to make the way more commodious for the Queen's coaches and attendance to pass: and likewise to pay 20l. per an to the said Corporation as from 1706 Aug 27 as recompense for the loss they sustain by levelling the banks, hedges & aytes on the aforesaid land; the levelling & grubbing of the premises having begun on the said 27 Aug 1706. July 19. Royal warrant dated Windsor Castle, to Treasurer Godolphin to pay 15000l. to Spencer Compton as imprest for the French Protestants, 3000l. thereof for French ministers & 12000l. thereof for the others [laymen]: to be distributed according to directions from the Archbishop of Canterbury et al. July 20. J. Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to Mr. Borret enclosing a letter & memorial [missing] relating to James Ford, now in Shrewsbury Gaol for listing several persons without authority. You are to prosecute him speedily & effectually. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 443.
Same to Mr. Walpoole [Secretary at War]. Mr. Brydges has applied for money for subsisting several Officers here whose Regiments are in Spain & Portugal. The Lord Treasurer cannot think it reasonable to supply that money till he knows how their leave of absence stands. Please examine the list & also acquaint his Royal Highness therewith in order to his issuing the necessary orders for hastening away the Officers to their respective commands. Ibid.
