Sept. 16. Letter of direction for 29128l. 15. 0¾ to James Brydges, Paymaster of the Forces Abroad: out of loans to be made by himself on Malt anno 1708, the orders for which loans are to be drawn without interest & are not to be delivered out of the Exchequer without the Lord Treasurer's particular directions in that behalf. This sum is to be applied to services as follows: viz:

for offreckonings to Harvey's Regiment of Horse and all other the Regiments borne upon the Establishment of the Forces in Spain from Deer 24 last to April 23 last (for which time their muster rolls are come over) 22542 11 0
for offreckonings to the Foot Regiments of Mohun, Caulfeild, Hamilton & Moore from 24 Dec 1707 to June 24 last for which time they are cleared, their rolls being come in 3956 8
for offreckonings to Brigadier Wynn's Regiment of Foot from Feb 24 last to June 23 last for which time they are cleared as above 566 10
in part of 894272l. 3. 6 for the 40000 men anno 1708
for offreckonings to Major Gen. Farrington's Regiment of Foot from Dec 24 last to June 23 last for which time their rolls are come in 990 3
in part of 177511l. 3. 6 for the 10000 men [being her Majesty's half of the 20000 Troops of augmentation] anno 1708
for offreckonings to Col. Johnson's Foot Regiment for the above time, their rolls being come in 1073 1 7

Letter of direction for 3000l. to Sir Thomas Littleton, Navy Treasurer: out of the first undisposed [unappropriated] money that is in or shall come in the Exchequer upon any the public funds anno 1708: & is to be paid over to Walter Whitfeild, Paymaster of the Marines, upon account of subsisting the said Marines & the paying to such of them as have been on foreign voyages two thirds of their pay upon landing, pursuant to the Lord Admiral's orders in that behalf. (J. Taylour dated same to the Navy Commissioners to imprest said sum to Whitfeild accordingly). Ibid.

to complete 6283l. 16. 8 for 61 days' subsistence to Aug 23 last for the Commission & non Commission Officers & recruits of Peirce's Regiment of Dragoons & the Foot Regiments of Tyrawley, Portmore, Stewart & Bretton, with the Regiment of the late Col. Alnutt and the Regiments of Magny & Montandre who are here recruiting 2283 16 8
upon account of subsistence to the Regiments in Spain from June 24 last to Aug 23 last, being to be applied towards answering several occasions of the said Regiments which are payable here 1000

Sept. 17. J. Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to Mr. Walpole, Secretary at War, to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of Lieut. Col. Francis Raynsford praying a pension for the loss of his arm & other wounds received in the service. Ibid., p. 2.
Same to the Solicitor General to report on the enclosed case [missing] of the widow, children & creditors of Joseph Horton deceased concerning the cause in the Exchequer between them & Sir Salathiell Lovell in relation to part of said Horton's estate. Ibid.
Sept. 18. Privy seal for 300l. for equipage & 3l. a day as ordinary to James Craggs as Resident at the Court of the King of Spain: to commence as from date hereof. Queen's Warrant Book XXIII, pp. 439–40.
Sept. 20. J. Taylour dated from “Windsor Treasury Chambers” (in the absence of William Lowndes) to the Customs Commissioners enclosing the memorial [missing] of the Portugal Envoy concerning the bed for the Queen of Portugal. In spite of Mr. Savage's answer to the letter of last week [supra, p. 393] the Lord Treasurer sees no reason why you refuse the oath of the exporter in this case more than in any others. Entry of Treasurer Godolphin's signature of the docquet of a royal warrant to the Exchequer of Scotland for payment of 210l. per an to the University of Edinburgh for the professors ut supra, p. 390: the first payment for the 2 terms due at Whitsuntide last to be made forthwith.
