Sept. 27. Same to the Customs Commissioners to report on the enclosed report [missing] of William Blathwait on the petition of George Muschamp, Receiver of Potomack in Maryland, touching his being transferred from that receivership to that at Patuxent where he is at present Collector. Ibid., p. 5.
Same to Mr. Byde, Judge Advocate, to lay before the General Officers, for their opinion, the enclosed warrant [missing] by the Earl of Galway for paying clothing, delivered in Spain, out of the offreckonings of the Troops in the Establishment. Ibid.
Treasury reference to John Dod and John Waters of the petition of the wives and relations of about 13 sailors who made their escape out of Dinant prison on Feb 26 last, setting forth the great hardships they underwent before they could obtain a vessel for their purpose; that they seized a vessel laden with corn which they brought into Guernsey where it was seized from them by the Commissary and condemned and sold as prize and the money returned to the Lord Admiral and the said sailors ordered on board her Majesty's ships Torbay, Orford & New Ruby: therefore praying a grant of the said prize money for taking the said vessel & cargo from the enemy. Sept. 28. J. Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to Mr. How, Paymaster of Guards & Garrisons, to apply to the clearings of Brigadier Handasyd's Regiment for 6 months from 1707 June 25 to Dec 23 the 1384l. 10. 6½ residue remaining undisposed of the money received by you at the Exchequer on Land Tax tallies & orders put into your hands for the service of the Guards & Garrisons anno 1707: “the said Regiment being esteemed as part of the 5000 men for sea service anno 1707.” Disposition Book XIX, p. 221.
Sept. 28. Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Robert Lawson, surety for John Hodgson et al for Customs bonds which they cannot meet by reason of misfortune: therefore praying a remission of interest & charges thereon. Reference Book VIII, p. 329.
Same to Mr. How [Paymaster General of Guards and Garrisons] of the petition of Richard Martyn shewing that he clothed at very low rates Col. Lillingston's Regiment in the West Indies in 1707, but the muster rolls of that Regiment were lost in their way hither, for want whereof the offreckonings are refused to be paid him: therefore praying that said clothing “may be satisfied as the Guards & Garrisons are.” Ibid., p. 331.
Sept. 29. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Queen's Remembrancer for stay of process against the Commissioners for Land Tax acting in the Divisions of Ongar, Harlow & Waltham Co Essex on the deficiency in the assessments there: they have reassessed for same & granted their warrant for levying the said deficiency.

Sept. 30. Privy seal for an ordinary of 2l. a day to Christian Cole as Secretary at Venice: to commence as from July 31 last. Queen's Warrant Book XXIII, p. 439.

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Customs Cashier to pay 37l. 10. 0. to Christopher Tilson for Sept 29 quarter for making a particular account of the Customs &c. Money Book XIX, p. 364.

J. Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to Sir Thomas Littleton, Treasurer of the Navy. The Bank of England has agreed to advance 20000l. on a deposit of tallies & orders [to that amount] in your hands on the Land Tax anno 1708, to be repaid on or before 12 Jan 1708–9 with 5 per cent interest. You are to apply the said sum as follows: viz:

to pay off the Mathew and Jeffery, Hospital ships lately arrived from abroad: [to be charged] under the head of Wages 7000
for bills of exchange under the head of Wear and Tear 13000

Sept. 30. William Lowndes to Mr. Bromeley. The arrear mentioned by you is in charge before the auditor of Co. Durham; and Robert Gilliver was authorised to collect same with other arrears. But the Lord Treasurer has thought fit to revoke Gilliver's authority, finding that he made an ill use thereof: “whereby I don't doubt but you will be easy as to any further demand from him or any of his substitutes.” But the said rent doth still remain in charge as 69s. for 34½ years arrears to Michaelmas 1694 on the annual rent of 2s. due from the tenant & occupier of land in Castle Edon in the bishopric of Durham formerly belonging to Ralph Claxton. “If there be anything still wanting for your future ease in this matter I shall be ready to give you my advice and assistance when I come to town.” Out Letters (General) XIX, p. 1.
Same to Mr. Howe [Paymaster General of Guards and Garrisons] & Mr. [Thomas] Broderick [one of the Comptrollers of Army Accounts] to report on the enclosed two memorials [missing] from Col. Munden concerning the extraordinary expense which the Captains of his Regiment were at in subsisting their men for the time they were detained in Great Britain by contrary winds after their being placed on the Irish Establishment; and likewise their further charge in keeping here (by order) 60 recruits at English pay waiting the arrival of his said Regiment from Ireland.
