	Royal warrant dated Windsor Castle to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland for payment of a yearly grant of 5,000l. for three years from date hereof for the employment and settlement of poor Palatines in the kingdom of Ireland: in accordance with the request some time since from the Privy Council of Ireland that as many of the poor people of the Palatinate near the Rhine in Germany who lately arrived in England should be settled there as the Queen should think fit: in compliance wherewith the Queen has thought fit that 500 families of them be transported to Ireland in order to be settled there: and the House of Commons there by an address has besought the Queen to make such a grant as above for the better support and employment of the said poor people. Sept. 29 [an erratum, probably for Oct. 17].	Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Receipt to apply the sum of 65l. 4s. 1d. (remaining in the Exchequer on Sept. 29 inst. for the surplus on the fund appropriated for paying 160,000l. to the East India Company) for and towards making good such quarterly payments on the annuities purchased in pursuance of the Act of 5 Anne [6 Anne, c. 2] for sale of Annuities anno 1707 as shall incur or grow due at or before Michaelmas 1710.
Sept. 29 [an erratum, probably for Oct. 17].	Prefixing: Certificate dated Exchequer 1709 Oct. 6 by Lord Halifax, Auditor of the Receipt, that on the said 29 Sept. 1709 there remained in the Receipt the said sum as an overplus of the Duties on Salt and Stamps charged by several Acts of 9 Wm. III. [8/9 Wm. III, c. 20] with 160,000l. per an. to the said Company, which overplus is reserved in the Receipt under the head of Duties on Salt towards making good the abovesaid quarterly payments pursuant to the said Act of 5 Anne [6 Anne, c. 2, the Act for continuing Duties on Low Wines &c.]. Oct. 18.	J. Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to the Customs Commissioners. I have laid before the Lord Treasurer your representation and Lord Teynham's letter concerning your hiring the Isle of Grain for airing goods [which are] to be taken out of ships that shall have performed their quarantine. In regard it is for so public a service and [is] what the Queen has directed in Council you must go on to agree with Lord Teynham unless you can propose some other more convenient place, in which case the Lord Treasurer will lay your further representation before the Queen in Council. 	William Lowndes to the Agents for Taxes enclosing a letter from Nicholas Carew concerning the arrear of Land Tax in the parish of Carshalton Co. Surrey. 	William Lowndes to the [Principal] Officers of the Ordnance. In order to supply the pressing services of your Office (as represented in your letter of the 18th inst.) the Lord Treasurer agrees to your disposing of 30,000l. residue of 50,000l. of the tallies and orders on the Land Tax anno 1709 which were put into the hands of the Treasurer of the Ordnance on Dec. 23 last, and to allow interest from the respective days of advancing the money thereon. The same is to be placed to account of land services [of the Ordnance] anno 1709. On your sending to the Treasury [the said orders with] the assignments thereon the Lord Treasurer will give warrant to the Exchequer to pay said interest accordingly. Disposition Book XX, p. 66.
Oct. 20.	Treasury reference to the Navy Commissioners of the petition of William Reyner shewing that he is at present under contract with the Navy Office for English made sail cloth and proposes to employ 300 of the poor Palatines in spinning and making sail cloth for seven years provided he may have the furnishing the Navy Office with 4,000 bolts of cloth every year at the following rates viz. Nos. 1 and 2 at 18 pence per yard; No. 3 at 17d.; No. 4 at 14d.; No. 5 at 13d.; Nos. 6 and 7 at 12d.; No. 9 at 11½d. Reference Book VIII, p. 372.
	Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Queen's Remembrancer to supersede process of distringas against the acting Commissioners [of Assessments] for the Hundred of Wallington Co. 	William Lowndes to the Customs Commissioners in Scotland. The Lord Treasurer is informed that great quantities of corn and grain have of late been exported from Scotland to foreign countries which hath contributed very much to the present scarcity thereof in this island. He directs you to send him an account of the several quantities that have been so exported since Midsummer last, the species, times when, ports whence, ports to which and the names of the exporters or persons entering same: also the like account for corn shipped from Scotland for England: “and you are to cause like accounts or certificates to be made and transmitted to his Lordship weekly until further order.” Out Letters (North Britain) II, p. 103.

	Treasury reference to the Salt Commissioners of the petition of the inhabitants of Looe setting forth that the port of Looe is a bar place where many ships come home laden with salt; that for want of a proper [salt] officer they cannot make an immediate entry of their salt, by which means they meet with great hindrance: therefore praying that a salt officer may be established in said port. By the Act of last Sessions [7 Anne, c. 2] for Recruiting the Land Forces anno 1709 it is enacted that the Receivers General of Land Taxes for the years 1708 and 1709 shall pay the encouragements or rewards of 4l. per volunteer and 6d. a day for keeping each new raised soldier and 20s. and 3l. for every person brought and delivered over by the churchwardens &c. (paying same according to warrants by the Commissioners for putting the said Act in execution) and that the respective Paymasters of the Forces shall pay into the Exchequer the equivalent amount to make good the respective credits on the Land Taxes. The said Commissioners were to send to your Office duplicates stating the names of such new raised men, the parishes or places of their last abode, the time and place when and where such men were delivered, the names of the persons who received them and for what Regiment or Company they were so received and the sums for which warrants should be issued [by the said Commissioners]. In order that a true account may be taken of the sums so paid out of Land Tax money the Lord Treasurer desires you to send such duplicates as have been returned into your Office to the Auditors [of the Exchequer] who are to make up the Land Tax accounts: and at the same time to send to his Lordship a certificate of the moneys so paid out of Land Tax, so that his Lordship may give directions for making good the credits on the said Land Taxes occasioned thereby. 	Prefixing: (a) Order of the Queen in Council dated Windsor Castle Oct. 24 made on the petition of Samuell Shepheard et al., merchants of London, setting forth that they have fitted out the ship Rising Sun for Malaga with a small quantity of biscuit purely to introduce the bringing over 250 butts of wine which lie ready for the petitioners there, and praying permission for the said ship to proceed, “her case being particular and can be no precedent for others and the said biscuit on board not being like to be any supply to the enemy, corn being at this time scarcer in her Majesty's dominions than in those parts as appears by a letter from the petitioners' correspondents there.” Hereon the Queen is pleased with the advice of the Privy Council to grant the said request and to order said ship to be forthwith cleared by the Customs officers “with the said 20 ton of biscuits” and to be permitted to proceed to Malaga without giving security for the same [biscuit]. 	Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of Ann Rawson, daughter of Capt. Francis Mansell deceased, for a renewal of the grant made to her father by Charles II. of a patent [of a pension] for 99 years terminable on three lives; petitioner and two sisters being the only surviving children and they being in great arrear of the said pension and reduced to great extremity: and likewise concerning a concealed estate of 200l. per an. which Boughton an attorney is ready to make out: the right of which is in the Crown. 	William Lowndes to Sir Thomas Littleton, Treasurer of the Navy. The Lord Treasurer understands by a letter from the Navy Commissioners that a considerable sum is wanting to pay wages to ships that will otherwise lie upon demurrage. In order to supply so necessary a service and also to furnish you with 8,000l. to complete the pay of the ships lost and taken, the Lord Treasurer agrees to your disposing of 44,095l. 3s. 3d. in tallies and orders in your hands on the Half Subsidies anno 1708 to any who will accept same at 6 per cent. interest with a retrospect for any time not exceeding four months from the respective days the money or [Exchequer] Bills for the said orders shall be paid or advanced to you. On your sending him the orders with your assignments thereon he will give warrant to the Exchequer for paying the interest accordingly. Disposition Book XX, p. 70.
	Letter of direction for 18,586l. 14s. 2½d. to James Brydges, Paymaster of the Forces Abroad: out of loans remaining in the Exchequer on credit of the Reversionary Funds in the General Mortgage for the service of the year 1709: and is to be esteemed part of the 1,081,083l. 0s. 4d. for the Forces in Spain and Portugal anno 1709 and to be paid over to Sir Henry Furnese towards answering bills of exchange for moneys taken up for the service of the said Forces.
