Although I am sure your Eminence will have heard of my translation to the bishopric of Mariana, I consider it my duty to inform you. The matter was settled in the consistory last week. If the pirates now in these seas do not detain me, I hope to go there very soon. I regret the loss to that island in the Most Rev. Centurione, to whom I am so much inferior. Two things console me, I never sought for this translation and so I may consider it God's will and must not shirk. I therefore hope that he will never abandon me; and secondly I am going to a bishopric governed for so many years by the Most Reverend Centurione, so I expect to find everything in excellent order as well as examples and documents to help and guide me. But I hope your Eminence will remember me in your prayers as you know my needs. I regret going so far away from you but I shall always remain your most devoted servant. If anything calls me back to the mainland, it will be to serve you. The bearer, Sig. Francesco Capelletti, a kinsman of mine, will to some extent supply my place. He is a man of exemplary life. I commit him to your good favour.

I have seven letters of your Eminence by this ordinary. I have written to the Cardinal of Este. The abbot of La Pace has spoken to me about the nuns of S. Giorgio, Mantua, but I have answered in such a way that he will not do so again. Desires a proxy to obtain pensions from Sig. Vanegas. Expects powers to admit Valsperge to the Annunciata monastery, Vercelli.
If I can help the English gentlemen at Paris of whom your Excellency writes I will do so most gladly, though I do not see how I can have the chance, as it is not my office to treat of such matters with his Holiness, unless you write with resolution, but in any case I will speak about it to the Cardinal of S. Sisto, protector of that nation.
Devotion of the Duchess of Brunswick in coming to visit the cardinal. General of the Franciscans coming to treat about reformation of order, etc.

His Holiness agrees to put the pension upon the abbey of Cambrai. I believe that it will be in favour of the archdeacon, since it is not advisable to give it to the Archpriest of S. Lorenzo, to take away another income from him, as from what the Datary has told me, there are no grounds for hoping that it will ever be paid, and one does not like to give a highly inadequate pension to a poor man, while depriving him of a certain income. I fancy that his Holiness proposes to give the abbey to the Archbishop of Cambrai.
