Reached Milan on Saturday the 29th ult., where received by the archbishop and lodged at his house. Met many old friends. Has now retired to San Barnaba to await orders, as Cardinal Paravicino writes that he must not leave Milan without fresh instructions. Called yesterday on the Countess Borromeo and the family, who are all well. The Prince of Parma passed through Milan for Flanders on Friday. At Florence had an interview of an hour with the grand duke, who spoke highly of the cardinal and his family. The duke is much changed, shows great piety, and in this time of want he maintained 30,000 persons at his expense. He has built three new nunneries.
