Berwick-on-Tweed.
To W. archbishop of York. Order to be at London in three weeks from Midsummer day before the keeper of the realm and the bishop of Worcester and others of the king's council, to treat of matters concerning his journey as the king's envoy to the general council. By p.s. [2079.]

Berwick-on-Tweed.
To the sheriff of Hertford. Order to cause Beatrice, late the wife of Robert de Gravele, to have seisin of a messuage and 60 acres of land in Watton atte Stone, which, it appears by inquisition, Henry Wymer, of Watton, outlawed for felony, held of her, as they have been in the king's hands for a year and a day. William Gernon, Sampson Gregori, William atte Grene, and Ralph de Honesdon have had the king's year, day, and waste thereof, and ought to answer for the same.

Berwick-on-Tweed.
To Roger de Wellesworth, escheator beyond Trent. Order not to intermeddle further with the lands that Alice, late the wife of John Danailles, held at her death of other lords than the king, as it appears by inquisition taken by Walter de Gloucester, late escheator beyond Trent, that she held of the king at her death the hamlet of Broghebrok, co. Devon, by the service of 5s. to be rendered yearly to the castle of Exeter, and that she did not hold any other lands of the king in chief.

Order to release forthwith from Canterbury gaol Master Hugh de Forsham, Master Richard de Hoo, Master Thomas le Blund, Master William, vicar of Thornham, Master Michael de Berham, Master Richard de Brenchelegh, Master Stephen de Haselingfeld, clerks, Thomas le Gegg, James de Bukelaunde, William de Boxle, Robert le Vineter, Robert le Lung, Roger Leanor, Geoffrey de Bukelaund, Thomas le Hen, Thomas le Glovere, William le Wyse, Osbert Absolon, Nicholas Colyn, John Kenward, Adam le Vallet of Master Stephen de Haselingfeld, William de Cateworth, William de Lynleye, John Petit, clerk, of Maidenstan, Henry de Craunford, Richard le Paintur, of Maydenstan, Joccus le Suur, of Maidenstan, Walter Scarbat, John Scarbat, Thomas Barun, of Maydenstan, John Sagou, Walter de Somynglegh, William de Stoupereshelde, John de Tendele, Thomas de Cranebrok, Richard Colyn, Ralph Fremlyn, John de Tetlingbury, Simon de Hulkeshull, Richard Swyft, and Henry de Bynton, as the king understands from the complaint of the prelates, earls, and barons of the realm that the said sheriff detains the above persons in prison although they have not been indicted or convicted of any felony or trespass, contrary to law and custom.

To the sheriff of Southampton. Order to cause a coroner for that county to be elected in place of Robert Urry, who is about to set out to join the king in Scotland, there to remain in the company of Ralph de Gorges, for which reason the king has caused him to be amoved from the office of coroner.

To the sheriff of Kent. Order to pay to Thomas de Sandwyco the 100s. that he lately ordered him to pay to William de Valoignes for his wages for twenty-five days for bringing footmen from that county to Rokesburgh in conjunction with John de Northwode, as the said William cannot attend to this. The like to the sheriff of Wilts for William de Cotes in place of Henry de Prayers. [Ibid.]
The like to the sheriff of Surrey and Sussex for Ralph Sanzaver in place of Roger de Bavent. [Ibid.]

Nicholas son of Robert le Provost of Thorp in Strete, in the king's prison at York for the death of Thomas le Storur, of Thorp in Strete, has letters to the sheriff of York to bail him until the first assize.

Berwick-on-Tweed.
To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer. Order to allow to William de Ferrariis, who is engaged in Scotland in the king's service, respite of all his debts due to the exchequer until Michaelmas next.

To the sheriff of Warwick. Order to cause a coroner for that county to be elected in place of Thomas Durvassal, incapacitated by infirmity.
June 20.
Berwick-on-Tweed.
To the abbot of Shrewsbury. Request that he will pay the 20l. that he granted to the king in aid of the Scotch war, as Ingelard de Warle, keeper of the king's wardrobe, has told the king by word of mouth, to the said Ingelard or to the king's clerk John de Leycestre, to be carried by him to the said Ingelard. To the men of the town of Coventry. Request that they will lend the king 500 marks in aid of his Scotch war, according to his former request by letters of privy seal, to which they have not replied, certifying the king of their proceedings by his clerk John de Leycestre, whom he is sending to them specially in this behalf. [Parl. Writs.]

Berwick-on-Tweed.
To Robert de Wodehous, escheator this side Trent. Order to deliver to Scolastica, late the wife of Godfrey de Melsa, tenant in chief, the following lands, which the king has assigned to her as dower of her husband's lands: the manor of Lepington, co. York, of the yearly value of 18l. 9s.; all the lands in Whitheton and Northcave, co. York, of the yearly value of 11l. 11s. 4d.; all the lands in Sutton and Dripol in Heldernesse, co. York, of the yearly value of 8l. 13s. 4d.; all the lands in Fenton, co. York, of the yearly value of 77s. 10½d.; all the lands in Waldeby and Neuton, co. York, of the yearly value of 21s. 8d.
Memorandum, that this assignment was made in the presence of Thomas de Stafford, attorney of Henry de Bello Monte, to whom the king had committed the custody of two parts of the lands aforesaid, with the consent of the said Thomas.
June 28.
Berwick-on-Tweed.
To Robert de Wodehous, escheator this side Trent. Order to deliver to Felicia, late the wife of Richard de Grey, of Saundiacre, as nearest of kin to his son and heir William, the lands of the said Richard, as it appears by inquisition that he held at his death of the king certain lands in Saundiacre in socage by the service of 33s. 4d. to be rendered yearly to the exchequer and 17s. 4d. yearly to the sheriff of Nottingham and Derby, and that he did not hold any other lands in chief by reason whereof the custody of his lands ought to pertain to the king, and that the said William his son is his next heir and is of the age of 3½ years.
June 4.
Berwick-on-Tweed.
To the sheriff of York. Order to cause two verderers to be elected in full county [court] for the liberty of the abbot and convent of Whiteby in place of William Herman and William de Perci, deceased, king Henry III. having granted to the said abbot and convent that they should have their own verderers of their liberty of Whiteby to be elected in full county [court] of Yorkshire, according to custom, as they have hitherto had their verderers of the aforesaid liberty in their forest of Whiteby since the said grant. The king issues this writ at the request of Henry de Perci, although it is not found in the rolls of the chancery after the said grant that the abbot and convent had a writ from the chancery to elect such verderers.
