To Walter Waldeshef, the king's butler. Order to deliver to the monks of St. Peter's Westminster a tun of wine of the king's right prise at London for this year, according to the charter of Henry III. granting them a tun of his prise to be received at London yearly on the morrow of St. Botolph from his chamberlain for the celebration of divine service in their church.

To William Servat and Roger le Palmer, keeper of the Templars' house of the New Temple, London. Order to pay to Roger Blome and Gaillarda his wife, if they are alive and she be dwelling in England, the following wages, etc., which the treasurer and barons of the exchequer have certified that they ought to receive for life from that house: daily three white loaves and a small squires' loaf, two flagons of the better ale and one of the second ale, and from the kitchen daily for dinner and supper as much as two brethren at table and one servant [receive], and two hundred faggots at the feast of All Hallows, and a bacon-pig at Martinmas, and 17 marks yearly at Easter from the preceptor's purse; and the said Roger is to receive yearly for life at the same term 40s. for two robes, and the said Gailarda is to receive for life, if she survive her husband and dwell in England, 9 marks of the aforesaid 17 marks, or if she dwell in parts beyond sea, 6 marks only at the chapter of Paris from the master of the order of the Temple in England or his attorney; and if she die before the said Roger, he is to receive yearly 14 marks of the said 17 marks: in consideration of their good service to the Templars and for 100 marks paid by them to the Templars.

Order to pay to W. bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, out of the issues of the Templars' lands in his custody, the wages, to wit 4d. daily, appointed for the maintenance of Ralph de Barton, chaplain, Ranulph de Evesham, chaplain, Henry de Halton, Richard de Buslusham, Thomas de Walklyngton, and John de Crafton, Templars assigned to him by R. archbishop of Canterbury and the provincial council to place in certain monasteries in his diocese to do penance, from the feast of St. Alban's last, and to continue to pay the same. Order to pay to Laurence de Ebor' a yearly pension of 100s. and the arrears of the same from the time of their appointment, the treasurer and barons of the exchequer having certified the king that he ought to receive that sum yearly for life from that house until he should be provided with a fitting ecclesiastical benefice.
To Alexander de Cave and Robert de Amcotes, keepers of the Templars' lands in co. York. Order to take inquisition whether a carucate of land called 'Syclingham' pertains to the manor of Wetherby, and if it be found that it does so pertain, to deliver it Margery, late the wife of Duugall (fn. 1) de Frendraught, and to allow her to have 'husebot' and 'haybot' in the wood pertaining to the manor, she having complained to the king that they withhold from her the said carucate called 'Syclyngham' and hinder her from taking housebote and haybote, although the king ordered them to deliver the manor and all its appurtenances to her, he having granted it to her in aid of her maintenance. To Roger de Wellesworth, escheator beyond Trent. Order to deliver to the executors of Christiana de Mariscis the manors of Langeleye and Wyrardesbiry, co. Buckingham, granted to her for life by the late king for a hundred librates of land, and the manor of Oneston, co. Northampton, similarly granted for fifty librates, taken into the king's hands upon her death, and the issues of the same received by them, to be held by the executors until the end of three years from her death, the late king having afterwards granted that her executors should hold the said manors for three years after her death for the execution of her will.

To the treasurer, or to him who supplies his place, and to the barons of the exchequer. Order to release from the Flete prison the king's clerk Master Thomas de Esthalle, imprisoned for not paying his account for the time when he was the king's chamberlain of North Wales, upon his finding sufficient mainprize to render his account according to the custom of the exchequer in the quinzaine of Hilary next, the term granted to him by the king, restoring to him his lands and goods.

To John de Argail, keeper of the Templars' manor of Neusom. Order to pay to the abbot and convent of Salleye ten marks yearly from that house, and the arrears of the same from the time of his appointment, the treasurer and barons of the exchequer having certified the king that they ought to receive that sum yearly for their land in Haleton and for the quit-claim that they made to the Templars of five bovates of land there.
May 27.

To the sheriff of Gloucester. Order to provide, under pain of forfeiture, 160 quarters of wheat, 100 quarters of malt, 200 quarters of oats, 100 quarters of beans and pease, 100 bacon-pigs, and 60 tuns of wine, and to send them by sea to Skynburnesse with all speed, so that they be there before Midsummer, there to be delivered to the keeper of the king's stores, as Edmund de la Mare, whom the king has appointed to supervise the premises, shall enjoin him; which provisions the king previously ordered him to provide and have at Skynburnesse before Whitsuntide last. The king will hold him responsible for his contempt of his previous order and for the damages sustained by the king through his default. By K.

Order to cause a pardon to be made and sealed under the king's seal of Ireland for Geoffrey Jon, of Droghda, indicted for cutting and breaking a plea-roll of the court of that town when he was the king's bailiff thereof, which roll contained the enrolment of a plea of account between Nicholas Jon his brother, executor of the will of Walter de la More, and Ralph Kenefeg'; the king having pardoned him at the request of Richard de Burgo, earl of Ulster. May 24.

To Griffin de la Pole. Order to desist, under pain of forfeiture, from lying in wait for John de Cherleton and his men, and from injuring their persons and goods, as the king understands that he, on account of dissensions between him and the said John, goes about divers parts of the marches of Wales with a great multitude of armed men on horse and foot, doing damage to the said John and his men. He is enjoined to so conduct himself that the king shall have to take no further steps against him, the king being willing to do justice concerning the said dissensions. By K.

To the same Griffin. Order to desist from the siege of the said John's castle of La Pole, which the king understands he is prosecuting notwithstanding the king's order to desist and the fact that the castle has been taken into the king's hands. [Fœdera.] By K.

To the sheriff of York. Order to levy without delay all the king's debts whereof he has summons of the exchequer, sparing no one without special order. By K.
To the same. Order to complete the peel (pelum) and ditch near York castle that the king lately caused to be begun, and to cover with lead the chapel newly constructed within the tower of the castle.
To the same. Order to buy and provide, where it may be done to the least damage of those parts, 100 quarters of wheat and 100 quarters of malt, and to cause them to be carried to York for the expenses of the king's household. By K.

To Robert de Barton, bailiff of Soureby and Werk in Tyndale. Order to pay out of the first issues of those manors, by the view of John de Weston, constable of Carlisle castle, and Dungall Makedouel, constable of Dunfres castle, to Gilbert de Bromlegh, receiver of the king's victuals in the parts of Carlisle, 100l. for the munition of the said castles, as they are enjoined on the king's behalf, notwithstanding any previous order of the king's to pay the issues thereof elsewhere.

Order to deliver to John Gryme the land in Little Haywode that he demised for an unexpired term of years to Thomas Gryme, taken into the king's hands to remain there for a year and a day, upon his paying to them as much therefor as any other would.

To him who supplies the place of the treasurer and to the chamberlains. Order to send to the king's wardrobe forthwith all the king's money in the treasury, for the expenses of the king's household. If the money in hand do not amount to a competent sum, they are then to borrow such a sum as they are able from merchants or others in London or elsewhere. By K.

To the sheriff of Surrey. Order to cause a coroner for that county to be elected in place of Walter le Gras, incapacitated by infirmity.

Order not to intermeddle further with the lands of Thomas de Swynford, as it appears by inquisition taken by the said escheator that he held nothing in chief of the king at his death by reason whereof the custody of his lands should pertain to the king.
