Memorandum of a mainprise body for body and under a pain of 1,000l., made in chancery 18 December this year by Stephen Durneford, William Lynchelade, Thomas Hore and John Vyncent, to have John Sampsoun and William Cole of Plymmouth, impeached before the council for certain misprisions, in chancery on the morrow of the Purification next, to do and receive what shall be by the council appointed.

To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Writ of supersedeas, until by advice of the council further order shall be taken, in respect of the execution of the king's writ ordering the sheriff of Hereford to distrain the bishop of Hereford by all his lands and chattels in that bailiwick, so that until further order neither he nor by him any other should lay a hand thereon, to answer for the issues of those lands, and to have the bishop's body before the treasurer etc. at Westminster in the octaves of St. Martin to certify the names of the collectors whom he has appointed in the deanery and archdeaconry of Hereford of the moiety of a tenth last granted by the clergy of the province of Canterbury, and order to release any such distress made; as the abbey of Redynge is of the foundation of former kings and of the king's patronage, so that the monks are bound to special celebrations and prayers for the souls of such kings, who gave (among other lands) the manor of Leomynstre to them and their successors for sustenance of the abbot and convent; and now the abbot and convent have shewn the king that, although certain monks their fellows are from time to time deputed to dwell in that manor for such celebrations and prayers there, and are day by day removable at will of the abbot, as may appear by a composition made between the then bishop and chapter of Hereford and the then abbot and convent, confirmed by pope Honorius III, and are accountable to the abbot and convent for the issues of the manor, the bishop is newly striving to charge them, under name of the prior, warden and subdean of Leomynstre, with the collection of the said moiety, wherefore the king commanded the bishop to appoint trustworthy men of the clergy of that diocese to collect the said moiety, certifying the treasurer and the barons of their names before Michaelmas last; but hitherto he has taken no heed to certify such names in the said deanery and archdeaconry. Gift for their lives of a yearly rent of 40l. of the manor of Donyngton with appurtenances in Forde, Westynton, Waldriche, Hertwelle and Missynden co. Bukyngham, the first term of payment to be at Michaelmas thirteen years after Michaelmas next or one month later, with condition for defeasance in case the said Gilbert die in the life time of the said Isabel and the grantor, his heirs and assigns, be by her impleaded and put to cost, or by recovery or otherwise thrust out of his freehold of the said manor, and covenant that if after any term the said Gilbert and Isabel be troubled or payment delayed 20l. shall be paid them every time in addition to the sum in arrear; and he has put them in seisin by payment of half a mark.
