CHARITIES FOR THE POOR.
An acre of land in Sherston (Wilts.) given to maintain a light in Westonbirt church was sold by the Crown in 1553. From 1548 the rent of 20d. had been applied to the relief of the poor, (fn. 1) and the land was still held for the poor in the 1770s; (fn. 2) no later record of it has been found.
