The Tower.
To the collectors of customs in the port of Kyngeston-upon-Hull. Whereas because certain merchants of the realm lent divers sums of money to the king for his affairs, of the sale of their wool sent to Holand and Seland in the king's name, and delivered to Reginald de Conductu and John de la Pole, supplying the place of William de la Pole, deputed to receive it under a certain form, the king promised that to each of the said merchants 20s. should be allowed of the 40s., which they were bound to pay as subsidy and custom on each sack of wool taken out of the realm from St. Peter ad Vincula next until Michaelmas following, and the entire custom and subsidy of 40s. after that feast until satisfaction had been made to them for the sums due or they had received the king's letters obligatory for what was due to them to be received, one moiety at Easter next and the other moiety at Easter following, as the king should choose, so that each of them should find sufficient security in the port where the wool was laded, before the collectors of customs there, to pay the king or those deputed by him, the remaining 20s. on such sacks in parts beyond the sea, within fifteen days after the wool has been unladed, and the king has granted to William de Loteryngton, to whom he is bound in 101l. 9s. 2d. for such wool, received by Reginald and John in parts beyond the sea, that he shall have such allowance for the wool which he shall take out of the port of Kyngeston-upon-Hull during the said time, and orders the said collectors to receive security from him as aforesaid, and to cause allowance to be made to him according to the tenor of the king's letters, and to cause the said letters to be endorsed with the said allowances, provided that he or his attorney shall take oath each time that he takes out wool, that the wool is his own, and that he will not pass the wool of others as his own, or commit any fraud, and the collectors shall receive the subsidy and custom due, when William has been satisfied for the sum due to him.
