Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Italian: ‘Calisto iii. 1457, Anno 3. Lib. 1.’ A flyleaf has the contemporary description: ‘Primus de beneficiis vacantibus et prebendis vacantibus anno iii°, domini Calisti pape iii.,’ above which is: ‘R(ecipe) N., P. de Varris’ (i.e. the name P. de Varris is again written in full), and below that again:R(ubricatus) per N. de Tongues.’ A similar contemporary description occurs, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume. There are ff. i–cccxiiii. + 1 of text.
  • 2. Ill written.
  • 3. filiorum suorum.
This passage explains the meaning of ‘fornicator’ in these Irish mandates.
  • 5. i.e., presumably Limerick, that being the last diocese mentioned.
