The pope lately granted him indult to retain in commendam with the said church of Tenos, which is in partibus infidelium and from which he was receiving and at present receives no fruits, the parish church of St. Laurence, Lydiard, in the diocese of Bath and Wells, which he was holding at the time of his promotion made by the present pope to the said church of Tenos, and to do so for life or as long as he should be bishop of that church. At his recent petition, containing that the fruits etc. of the said parish church do not exceed 40 marks sterling, with which he cannot keep up his episcopal state, the pope hereby dispenses him to receive in commendam and retain for life with the said two churches any other benefice with or without cure, secular or regular of any order, even that of canons regular of St. Augustine, of which he has made his profession, even if a parish church or its perpetual vicarage or a priorship or a provostship, even conventual, etc., and to resign it and St. Laurence's, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. To Henry Duke, priest, master of the hospital of St. Nicholas in the city of Salisbury. Indult to have a portable altar, on which he may celebrate or have celebrated by a fit priest mass and other divine offices in presence of himself and his household servants, to choose a fit priest, secular or regular, as his confessor, who may, after hearing his confession, grant him absolution for his crimes etc., in cases not reserved to the apostolic see, as often as opportune, and in reserved cases (except certain cases specified, e.g. violation of interdict, etc.) once only, and enjoin penance, and who, or other confessor of his choice, may grant him, being penitent and having confessed, plenary remission of all his sins, likewise once only, namely in the hour of death, and may commute his vows of abstinence and pilgrimage, except those of pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Rome and Compostela (fn. 12); with the usual clauses providing for the making of satisfaction to whom it is due, against abuse of the present indult and requiring the usual Friday fasting for a year etc. (fn. 13) Sincere devotionis. There is evidently an error of registration at this point, this German and some other English dispensation having perhaps been mixed up and the two rolled into one. To the abbot of St. Mary's, Fermoy (de Castro dei), in the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.), and John Roche, a canon of Cloyne. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of William Condun, clerk, of the diocese of Cloyne, contained that the prior and convent of the monastery of Glasharge, of the order of Tiron (Turnen. ordinis), in the diocese of Ferns, have been wont from time immemorial to give and grant the fruits etc. of the rectory of the parish church of Letram in the said diocese of Cloyne, which fruits etc. belong to the said monastery, on farm or yearly pension to persons who, allowing the said church to fall to ruin, have converted the fruits found therein to their own depraved uses; and that they neglect divine worship therein. At the said petition, adding that if the said fruits etc. were granted for life to him, who is of the stock of the founders of the said monastery and rectory, to farm or yearly pension, under the pension wont to be paid, it would be very profitable to the said monastery, the pope hereby orders the above two, if they find the facts to be as stated, and if the prior of the said monastery consent, to grant to the said William that he may hold the said fruits etc. for life, provided that the present prior's grant do not extend to fee or alienation. To all the inhabitants of both sexes near (prope) the chapel of St. Mary, called Merchchapelle, situate by (circa) the seashore within the bounds of the parish of the parish church of Fulstowe, in the diocese of Lincoln. Grant, at their recent petition (containing that the said chapel is distant a mile of those parts from the said parish church, and that it is often difficult for them, on account of bad weather, floods and other perils of the roads, to go to the said church for burials) to have a cemetery near the said chapel, and after it has been consecrated by the ordinary or by any other catholic bishop, to bury their dead therein with the wonted solemnities of the country, summoning the rector or his deputy, or any other priest invited for the purpose by the said rector.
