Somerley (W. Suss.) earl Roger's manor 1086 (DB I 24b). First reference to preb. ? 1230s, when property included a house outside the south gate of Chichester (Chart. Chichester no. 538) = Rumboldswhyke (ibid. no. 751, early 16th century). Lands also in East Wittering 1535 (Valuation 1535 p. 166). See Inq. Non. p. 356a; VCH Suss. IV 216-17.

First identified preb. is John de Leek, who had papal prov. to next vacant preb. 19 Sept. 1343, occ. as this preb. 7 Oct. 1366, resigned by 14 March 1367 (2 Fasti VII 42). Perhaps identical with M. John de Lech, preb. Hova Ecclesia, list 23.
