ARCHDEACONRY
The archdcns. of Meifod appear to have belonged to an elite native clerical family which retained, into the 12th and 13th centuries, influence over the powerful preNorman clas church of Meifod (Powys), and the area of its religious authority. They appear as witnesses to chs. down to the 1230s (Pearson, 'St Asaph chapter' pp. 42-3; Chs. of Ystrad Marchell pp. 38-9). Evidence for this ecclesiasical dynasty suggests a relationship with Sulien, bp. of St Davids (below, list 34), and the archdcnry. seems to have been hereditary within this family (Chs. of Ystrad Marchell p. 39). It is, however, unclear when the archdcnry. was absorbed into that of St Asaph.

D. as archdcn. of Powys 1127 (Brut Peniarth Text pp. 83b-84a; Brut Peniarth Transl. p. 50; Brut Red Book pp. 110-11; cf. Ann. Camb. p. 38). Son of Sulien, bp. of St Davids (1073-8, 1080-5) (below, list 34). Father of Cedifor ap Daniel, archdcn. of Cardigan, who d. 1163 (below, list 40).
Caradog
Called archdcn. of Powys 1155 x 60 (Gwaith Cynddelw Brydydd Mawr, ed. N. A. Jones and A. P. Owen (2 vols., Cardiff, 1991-5) I no. 3; and see Chs. of Ystrad Marchell p. 39). Father of Sulien archdcn. (below).
Sulien ap Caradog
Occ. without title c. 1170 (Chs. of Ystrad Marchell no. 1). Occ. as archdcn. in chs. of Ystrad Marchell, so presum. this archdcnry., several times: first 22 Feb. 1191 (ibid. no. 14), and last 1215/16 (ibid. no. 62). Son of Caradog archdcn. (ibid. pp. 38-9). His sons Ednyfed and Einion occ. with him (ibid. nos. 36, 37, 62).
John
Occ. as archdcn. of Meifod once only, 10 March 1232 (Chs. of Ystrad Marchell no. 80). Possibly son of Sulien archdcn. (ibid. p. 39).
