Bp. Gloucester takes the Oaths.

This Day Edward Lord Bishop of Gloucester took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes.

Rosset et al. Nat. Bill.

Then the House proceeded to take into Consideration the Amendments made by the Commons to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Lewis de Rosset, "Peter Brozet, and others."

Which said Amendments were read Thrice, and agreed to; and Ordered, That the Commons have Notice thereof.

Hastings' Petition referred to Judges.

Upon reading the Petition of Churchill Hastings, an Infant, by Robert Nettles his Guardian; praying Leave to bring in a Bill, to vest the Equity of Redemption of the Manor of Backwell, in the County of Somerset, in Trustees, to be sold; and the Surplus Money to be disposed of, according to the Directions of the last Will of Caroletta Hastings, and the Decree and Orders of the Court of Chancery, set forth in the Petition:

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Consideration of the said Petition shall be, and is hereby, referred to the Lord Chief Justice of Her Majesty's Court of Common Pleas and the Lord Chief Baron of Her Majesty's Court of Exchequer; who are forthwith to summon all Parties concerned in the Bill; and, after hearing them, to report to the House the State of the Case, with their Opinion thereupon, under their Hands, and whether all Parties that may be concerned in the Consequences of the Bill have signed the Petition; and also that the Judges, having perused the Bill, do sign the same.

A Message from the House of Commons, by Colonel Stanley and others:

Who brought up a Bill, intituled, "An Act for building a Church, or Chapel, in the Town of Manchester, in the County of Lancaster;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

A Message from the House of Commons by Sir Edward Lawrence and others:

Who brought up a Bill, intituled, "An Act to enable Anne Crewe (late Offley) Widow, and John Crewe (late Offley) her Son and Heir Apparent, to change their Surnames from Offley to Crewe, according to the Settlement of John Crewe Esquire, deceased;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Sir James Gray versus D. Hamilton et al.;

After hearing Counsel, upon the Petition and Appeal of Sir James Gray Baronet, from a Sentence or Decree of the Lords of Council of Session in North Britain, on the Behalf of Charles Earl of Selkirke, and the Affirmance thereof, the One and Thirtieth of July One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eight, in Causes between Sir James Gray, and James Duke of Hamilton, and between the said Charles Earl of Selkirk, James Duke of Hamilton, Sir James Gray, and Alexander Gawen, touching the Payment of One Thousand Pounds, and Interest, on the Bond therein mentioned; and praying, "That the said Sentence or Decree, and the Affirmation thereof, may be repealed and set aside:" As also upon the several Answers of James Duke of Hamilton, Charles Earl of Selkirk, and Alexander Gawen, put in thereunto; and due Consideration of what was offered thereupon:

Judgement reversed.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Sentence or Decree, and the Affirmation thereof, complained of in the Petition and Appeal of Sir James Gray, shall be, and they are hereby, reversed: And it is further Ordered, That the One Thousand Pounds, and Interest, secured by the said Bond, be paid to Sir James Gray the Appellant; and the said James Duke of Hamilton is to pay to Sir James Gray the One Thousand Pounds, and Interest thereon, due accordingly; and for so doing, shall be, and is hereby, indemnified.

Adjourn.
