MEMORANDUM, That whereas the King's Majesty, by His Writs of Summons, bearing Date at Westm. the Second Day of April last past, appointed His Parliament to begin this present Day, being the Seventeenth Day of May, in the First Year of His Majesty's Reign, as by the same Writs more plainly appeareth; His Majesty, upon great and weighty Considerations (by Advice of His Privy Council), thought good to prorogue this present Parliament unto the 31st Day of this Instant May.

King's Commissioner delivered to be read.

Wherefore these Lords Spiritual and Temporal (whose Names are above-written) being assembled in the Parliament Presence, and divers of the Commons being present, and Prayers said; the Lord Keeper delivered unto the Clerk His Majesty's Writ Patent, signed with His Royal Hand, and sealed with the Great Seal of England, bearing Date the Sixteenth Day of May; and commanded the same to be read: The Tenor whereof followeth, in hæc verba: videlicet,

"CAROLUS Rex.

Commission for the Prorogutation.

"Carolus, Dei Gratia, Angliæ, Scotiæ, Franciæ, et Hiberniæ, Rex, Fidei Defensor, &c. Prædilectis et Fidelibus Nostris Prælatis, Magnatibus, et Proceribus Regni Nostri Angliæ, ac Dilectis et Fidelibus Nostris Militibus, Civibus, et Burgensibus dicti Regni Nostri Angliæ, ad Parliamentum Nostrum, apud Civitatem Nostram Westm. decimo septimo die instantis mensis Maii, inchoandum et tenendum, convocatis et electis, et vestrum cuilibet, Salutem.

"Cum Nos, pro quibusdam arduis et urgentibus Negotiis, Nos, Statum et Defensionem dicti Regni Nostri Angliæ, ac Ecclesiæ Anglicanæ concernentibus, dictum Parliamentum Nostrum ad diem et locum prædictum teneri ordinaverimus; ac vobis, per separalia Brevia Nostra, apud Civitatem et diem prædictam interesse mandaverimus, ad tractandum, consentiendum, et concludendum super hiis, quæ in dicto Parliamento Nostro tunc et ibidem proponerentur et tracturentur: Quibusdam tamen certis de Causis et Considerationibus Nos ad præsens specialiter moventibus, dictum Parliamentum Nostrum usque tricesimum primum diem hujus instantis mensis Maii duximus prorogandum; its quod nec vos, nec aliquis vestrum, ad dictum decimum septimum diem Maii, apud Civitatem prædictum, comparere teneamini, seu arctemini. Volumus etiam vos, et quemlibet vestrum, inde erga Nos penitus exonerari; mandantes, et, tenore præsentium, firmiter injungendo præcipientes, vobis, et cuilibet vestrum, et omnibus aliis quibus in hac parte intererit, quod ad dictum tricesimum primum diem Maii, apud prædictam Civitatem Westm. personaliter compareatis et intersitis, et quilibet vestrum compareat et intersit, ad tractandum, faciendum, agendum, et concludendum super hiis, quæ in dicto Parliamento Nostro, de communi Concilio dicti Regni Nostri (favente Deo), contigerint ordinari. Teste Meipso, apud Westm. decimo sexto die Maii, Anno Regni Nostri Primo.
