Living son of Leured

First preb. in cats., 'Livingus [Luuingus, Cat. II] filius Leuredi'. Possibly to be identified with Living the deacon, who d. by c. 1128 (Davis, London lands p. 55). Perhaps also to be identified with Leving, king's scribe, preb. of Lincoln [1107 × 16, ?1113] (Regesta 11 no. 1032).

Elias son of Ranulph Flambard

Occ. in cats. between Living son of Leured and William son of Otho, 'Elias [Helias, Cat. II] filius Ranulfi episcopi'. Occ., not called can., c. 1128 (Davis, London lands p. 56). Occ. as can. once only, 1132/3 (WD 4 fo. 53/57r-v, pd. in Rep. p. 67b). Son of Ranulph Flambard, bp. of Durham (1099-1128), preb. of Totenhall and ?dean of St. Paul's (see Southern, Ranulf Flambard pp. 115, 119; cf. below, p. 79 and App. I), and brother of Ralph, preb. of Sneating (below). Occ. among royal clks. [1121 × 24] (Regesta 11 no. 1364), and preb. of Lincoln [1110 × 22, prob. 1115] (ibid. no. 1104).

William son of Otho

Occ. in cats. between Elias son of Ranulph Flambard and Ralph son of Ranulph Flambard, 'Willelmus filius Oconis [Othoni, Cat. II] archidiaconi [arch', Cat. II]'. Otho the archdcn. otherwise unknown. William his son perhaps to be identified with William son of Otho, not called can., who held land in Essex [1141] (Regesta 111 no. 316).

Ralph son of Ranulph Flambard

Occ. in cats. between William son of Otho and William Medicus, 'Radulphus frater Elie [Elye, Cat. II]'. Does not occ. as can. Occ., not called can., 26 Jan. 1149 (Saltman, Theobald p. 546). Clk., son of Ranulph Flambard, bp. of Durham (1099-1128), commem. c. 12 × 24 Jan. (Liber Vitae Dunelm. [ed. J. Stevenson] (Surtees Soc., 1841) p. 141). Brother of Elias son of Ranulph Flambard, preb. of Sneating (above).

William Medicus

Occ. in cats. between Ralph son of Ranulph Flambard and Richard son of Nicholas, 'Willelmus medicus'. Occ. as can. of 'Lund.' [1154 × 62, prob. 1154] (Early Yorks. Charters 111 no. 1825).

M. Richard son of Nicholas (fn. 1)

Occ. in cats. between William Medicus and Edmund de Suwella, 'Ricardus filius Nicholai'. First occ., prob. as can. [March 1157 × May 1162] (Gibbs no. 245; A/22/87, A/28/273, A/38/1210, cal. in Rep. pp. 23b, 31b-32a, 39b). (fn. 2) Last certain occ. Dec. 1182 (Gibbs no. 220), but prob. to be identified with M. Richard who occ. [c. 1185] (A/33/702), (fn. 3) and perhaps occ. later, [c. 1180 × 1192] (A/12/1111, cal. in Rep. p. 13a; A/32/641; cf. A/25/254). (fn. 4) Brother of Nicholas archdcn. of London (see e.g. Gibbs no. 245; A/12/1111, cal. in Rep. p. 13a), and therefore son of Nicholas Crocemannus, preb. of Oxgate (cf. above p. 67).

M. Edmund de Suwella

Occ. in cats. between Richard son of Nicholas and Robert de Watford, 'Edmundus de Suwella'. Occ. as can. once only, as 'M. Edmund', c. 1192 (D.S.R. II). (fn. 5)

M. Robert de Watford

Occ. in cats. between Edmund de Suwella and Benedict, 'Robertus de Watford'. Presum. appd. after 17 Dec. 1213, when still called clk. (C.Ch.R. v 202). First occ. as can. 9 July 1214 (Paris, Bibl. Nationale, MS. Lat. 10077 p. 19 no. 10). Also dean by 1217/18, to d. in July 1228.

M. Benedict

Occ. in cats. between Robert de Watford and Robert Le Moyne, 'Benedictus capellanus domini Greg. [Cat. II omits Greg.] pape'. Chapl. of pope Gregory IX (1227-41). Occ. as papal chapl. 21 March 1231 (Reg. Greg. IX no. 582). Occ. as clk. and papal collector in England, 1 Feb. 1241 (ibid. no. 5353). Occ. as late can. of St. Paul's, sometime chamberlain and chapl. of pope, 20 May 1242 (C.P.R. 1232-47 p. 298).

Robert Passelewe

Does not occ. in cats. Royal gr. of preb. in succession to Benedict, 20 May 1242 (C.P.R. 1232-47 p. 298). Prob. effective for short time only, because royal gr. of preb. of Nesden 8 Nov. 1242, and of Caddington Minor 1 Apr. 1243.

Robert Le Moyne

Occ. in cats. between Benedict and Reginald de Brandon, 'Robertus dictus monachus'. First certain occ. as can. 27 Sept. 1250 (Reg. Innoc. IV no. 4864), but may occ. earlier, [Aug. 1245 × Aug. 1257] (A/28/282). (fn. 6) Also successively precentor from before Nov. 1258; treas. by July 1262, to Apr. 1275 or later.

M. Reginald de Brandon

Occ. in cats. between Robert Le Moyne and John de Ditton, 'Reginaldus de Brandon'. First occ. as can. 15 March 1279 (Canterbury, D. & C., Reg. E fo. 69r), and 8 Aug. 1279 (A/25/1708). Occ. this preb. c. 1294 (Liber F valor). (fn. 7) Last occ. 23 Jan. 1305 (Chrons. Edw. I and II 1 144). Commem. 19 Jan. (Obit. IV pp. 62, 74).
