PREBEND
Bishopstone was part of bp.'s manor of Ramsbury (Wilts.), 1066 and 1086 (cf. DB I 66a), perhaps included in bp. Osmund's gr. of Ramsbury church to cans. 1091 (carta).
Preb. prob. in existence by c. 1150 (Psalter list), and certainly by 1220s (C. 462, pd. Sar. Chs. p. 207; RSO II 74). Preb. consisted of church of Bishopstone (cf. Reg. Martival III no. 696).

PREBENDARIES
M. Henry of Bishopstone (fn. 1)
First occ. as can., one of scrutineers at decanal election, 20 Sept. 1220, and said on that occasion to have taught canon law at Oxford and now to 'rule the schools' in New Salisbury (RSO II 16). Represented absentee cans. in debate over fines for non-residence 30 Sept. 1225 (ibid. II 41). Occ. this preb. Oct. 1226 x Feb. 1227 (app. 1). Fined for non-residence, Feb. 1227, abroad on king's business, May 1227 (RSO II 77, I 267). Occ. as can. frequently. Last occ. 2 July 1246 (Westminster Domesday fos. 388v-389r).
M. William de Schireborn
First occ. as can. 22 Apr. 1265 (Niger fo. 59r-v). Occ. as proctor of scholars of De Vaux college, 1269 (cart. De Vaux fo. 57v). Subdean by 9 Sept. 1271, and had been succeeded by 2 Feb. 1289/90 (list 11). Called this preb. on last occ., May-June 1284 (app. 2).
Next identified preb. (omitted from 2 Fasti III 33) is M. John de Havering, (fn. 2) papal chapl., who had papal prov. of a preb. 8 Aug. 1305 (Reg. Clem. V no. 45, cal. CPL II 2, cf. ibid. p. 15); also archdcn. of Dublin (CPR 1292-1301 p. 518; cf. Reg. Gandavo II 610, 846); d. at papal Curia by 12 Oct. 1306 (CPL II 17); presum. this preb. because succeeded by his brother, M. Richard de Havering, who had papal prov. 12 Oct. 1306 (ibid. p. 19; cf. 2 Fasti III 33, XII 53).
