Occ. 1086 without title (DB I fos. 89c Benthelmus, 70a Benzelinus, 160b Benzelinus), but called archdcn. in Exon DB (DB III (1816) 147 Benthelinus; see VCH Som. I 531). Occ. as Benzelinus archdcn. July 1088 × 1106 (EEA X no. 2 = T. Madox, Formulare Anglicanum (1702) no. 494).

Gerbert

First occ. July 1088 × 2 Aug. 1100 (Chart. Bath I 38 (no. 34)). (fn. 1) Occ. July × 23 Sept. 1106 together with Walkerius and Robert archdcns. (EEA X no. 3). Occ. 30 June ? 1120 (Chart. Bath I 51 (no. 49)), (fn. 2) called archdcn. of Bath, together with Arald archdcn. (below) and Joel archdcn. of Salisbury (for whom see 1 Fasti IV 24).

Occ. early 1130s, together with Arald archdcn. (EEA X no. 7, for which see below, app. 1 n. 2). D. 16 Aug. 1135 × 22 March 1136 (Historiola pp. 23-4). Son of Hildebert, bp. John of Tours' steward, whom he succeeded as provost of cans. (ibid. p. 22). Brother of Reginald prec. (ibid. p. 23). Nephew of bp. John (EEA X no. 46).
