3 January 1502–3.

Beggares taikine; vagabonds.

It is avysit thocht expedient statute and ordanit be the provest baillies and counsale of this burgh, eikand and conformand to the acts maid abefore twicheing the help and rewle of this towne, be the grace of God, fra the greitt dainger of the pestilence that hes rongin thir certane yeiris bygane, and mekill throw owerseing of guid rewle and slewth thairof be greitt confluence of sempill peipill and vtheris, that thair sall be made a certane leidin taiknis to be gevin to the pure failyeit folks to quhat quantity of nummer sall be thocht expedient to the wisdome of the towne, and sic as may guidlie be sustenit be thair almous, and fra thine furth that oppin proclamatioun be maid that all vther beggaris nocht haiffand thir taikins sall devoyde the towne incontinent thairafter, and at thai personis nor na vther beggares cum agane nor of new vnder the payne of deid; and quhat vther persoun that beis fundin beggand but thair signe or taikin, be it a man to be strukin throw the hand, and be it a woman to be brint on the cheik, and banist the towne but fauoures; and at na vagabounds young (sic) man nor woman be fundin within the towne bot sic as are in seruice haifand a sustentatioun in practik or vtherwayis, bot thai haiff and the said taikinis vnder the said panis.

Bairds.

(Personis convict for flyting and scaldrie adiugeit to be govit on the croce quhill four afternone. Curia justiciarie.—Tr.)

(Ane convict for vpsetting ower day and nicht and nocht knawin quheiron he leiffis bot as a vagabond, is banist. And sum banist for yeir and day.—Tr.)

Regratouris convict.

Thir ar the personis and regrattouris vnderwrittin of meill that ar convict be ane assys for the bying of the samyn in greit quantitie, mair than may sustene thair self to thair awin meit, and selling of the samyn to the puir folkis vpoun proffeit-wynning, causand greit darthe.

Pais of the caik.

Item, thir are the personis caik-baxteris regratouris vnderwrittin that ar convict be ane assys for the baiking of caikis, nocht kepand the pais vsit and wount, that is to say that the caikis for the penny sould wey vther half tymes alsmekill as the penny quhit breid, viz. the quhit penny laif weyand xvj vnce, the vther to wey xxiiij vnce, and swa les or mair pais [as] accordis; and attour the baillies ordanit and chargit gif thir personis aboue written will baik ony caikis in tyme to cum, or the laif that ar convict, that thai obserue and keip the statutis maid thairvpoun as accordis.

2 September 1503.

The toune denuncing ane rebell and puttand him to the horne for slauchter.

We do yow to wit, forsamekle as Gilliame Taburner is dilatit of the slauchter of Patrik Harpar, for the quhilk caus the provest and baillies, schreffis within this burgh, hes causit diligentlie serche and seik the said Williame within the boundis of thair office, and could nocht apprehend him, that thairfore we denunce the said Gilliame oure Souerane Lordis rebell for the said slauchter, as fugitive fra the Kingis lawis, and puttis him to the horne.
