9 January 1576–7.

Watche.

The provest, baillies, and counsall ordanis ane nychtlie watche to be set of tuenty persones, and to indure quhill pasche nixt according to the ordour appoyntit be the baillies.

Extent, ministeris.

The baillies and counsall ordanis to warne the dekynnis to convein befoir thame on Friday nixt for thair consent to be had insetting of ane new extent for payment of the ministeris stipend, viz., to John Cairnys twa hundreth merkis, John Dury thre hundreth merkis, maister Walter M'Quhanquhall thre hundreth merkis and to maister James Lowsoun sax hundreth merkis.

11 January 1576–7.

Dekyn Robesoun, fleschour, dischairgitt.

The provest, baillies [and council] being convenit in the counsalhous for resoning vpoun the commoun effaires, and vnderstanding that the dekynnis of craftis being personallie present had deposit Jhonn Hendersoun, dekyn of the fleschouris, of his office and dekynrie within the yeir, na falt being knawin to the juges committed be him, and that thay had input at thair awin handis John Robeson, fleschour, in his place, for avancing of thair particulairis for subscryving of bandis with thame contrair the commoun weill and autorite of the juges foirsaidis, thay all in ane voce dischairgis the said John Robesoun of his vsurpit and pretendit office, and neuer to bruik the lyke in tymes coumyng, and restoris and responis the said John Hendersoun, and commandis him to vse his said office of dekynrie, and nane vtheris to haif voce thairintill vnto the lawfull tyme vsit and wont, except some notorious offence be committed be him and knawin to the saidis juges, and in lyke maner dischairgis the saidis dekynnis of all sic ordour of prosceding at thair awin handis in tymes cuming vnder the payne of tynsall of thair fredomes.

18 January 1576–7.

Extent ve li. Ministrie.

[The provost, bailies, council, and deacons of crafts] ordanis ane extent to be set and rasit of the hale nychtbouris, extending to fyve hundreth pundis, for the help of the ministeris stipend, quhill forther ordour be taikin for thair sustentatioun; and Gilbert Prymros, for him self, and in name and behaef of the remanent dekynnis, askit instrumentis, that thay grantit to this extent onlie at the requeist of my lord prouest for this instant yeir; and protestit that na extent be set quhill new ordour be taikin be the avise of the prouest, baillies, counsall, and dekynnis.

Decreit aganis the Cannogait.

The prouest, baillies, and counsale ordanis to deliuer to maister Jhonne Schairpe, iiij crounis of the sone, maister Edmond Hay, iiij crounis of the sone, and Alexander King, tua crounis of the sone, for thair procuring diuers tymes in the Abbay before my Lord Regenttis Grace, and Lordis of Secreitt counsale aganis the Cannogait, and obtenyng of decreit aganis the inhabitanttis thairof, conforme to the actt of perliament chargeing thair malt to be sauld in the mercatt thairof.

Gaird houssis.

The prouest, baillies, and counsale, vnderstanding ane greit conventioun of the nobelitie to be in this toun with the Erllis of Athole and Argyle, ordanis tua gaird houssis to be keipit dalie during the said conventioun, as the baillies wyll ansuer, etc.

15 February 1576–7.

Craftis, ministeris, extent.

[The deacons] being requyrit to consent, for thair pairt, to eik to the last extent of ve pundis, appoynted for the ministeris and supporit of maister Walter Balquhanquhall and Johnn carnis the sovme of tuenty li. and Gilbert Prymrois, in name of the rest, disassentis, becaus they have alrady consentit to the sovme of vo li.; and father refussit.

27 February 1576–7.

Extent, ministeris.

[The provost, bailies, and council] ordanis the ministeris extent to stand, and the baillies to collect the samyn, and to make thame be payit thairof.

6 March 1576–7.

Craftis, gyld.

In presens of the prouest [bailies and council] comperit Jhonne Cowper, tailyeour, and Henry Blyth, chirurgeane, and consignit euery ane of thame the sowme of ten s., siclike Patrik Turnet son of Peter Turnet, skynner, and consignit xiij s. iiij d., desyring thairfor to be maid gyld brether, conforme to the auld actis, as thay allegit, in rispect thay had bene prentissis within this burgh; quhilk consignatioun the prouest, baillies and counsale foresaid [declined], as alsua to admyt thame gyldis except thay refusit thair craftis and bure burding with the merchantis, and the saidis personis protestit for remeid and askis instrumenttis.

8 March 1576–7.

Craftis, gyldreis.

In presens of my lord prouest [the bailies and council], James Young [one of the council] desyrit ansuer to be gevin to Jhonne Couper, James Mychelsoun and Patrik Sandelandis, tailyeouris, tuiching the gyldreis desyrit be thame, to the quhilk eftir avisement it wes ansuerit that the actioun betuix the prouest, baillies, counsale, and craftis concernyng thair gyldreis wes dependand befoir my lord Regentis Grace and lordis of secreit counsale as yit vndecidit, and thairfor deferrit thair ansuer quhill forther ordour in that actioun, and the said James Young protestit for remeid.

13 March 1576–7.

Juges, prymegilt.

The baillies and counsall remembering thame selues to haif gevin and disponit to vphald of the hospital of Leith the dewtie of the prymegilt of all schippis arryuing at the pourt and hawin thairof, and vnderstanding that sum persones wilfully refussis to delyuer the samyn; for remeid quhairof thay ordane that all questioun that sal happin to occur for non payment of the said prymegilt be jugit befoir the provest and baillies of Edinburgh, and thair sentence and decreit pronuncit thairintill to be execute be thame, thair seruandis, baillies, and thair officiaris of Leith, at all tymes neidfull.
