An Inventory of the Historical Monuments in City of York, Volume 2, the Defences
The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments of England survey, covering the Defences of the City of York. Two castles are described: York Castle and the Old Baile; however this coverage is treated as supplementary to the Victoria County History volume on The City of York, which is also available on British History Online.
