1463. 18 Kal. July. (14 June.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 10d.)	To the abbot of St. Mary's, Assaroe (de Sameria) in the diocese of Raphoe, Bernard Ofeirgyl (or Oferrgyl) a canon of Raphoe, and the official of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by William Macgillabridi, rector of the parish church of Cluayndachorcali (sic) in the diocese of Raphoe, that Donald Macmeriman Ydomnayll, dean of Raphoe, has incurred perjury, committed simony, and incurred the sentences etc. promulgated against simoniacs, by exacting money before instituting, in virtue of his deanery, to certain chaplaincies in the church of Raphoe, and has sacrilegiously and of his own temerity broken the paten of a silver chalice provided for divine worship, melted it down and used the silver for the evil uses of his concubine, for her ornaments (fn. 2) ) if and after William (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of an unmarried nobleman and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which, having been so promoted, he obtained the rectory of the said church by canonical collation) accuses Donald before the above three, to summon Donald and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Donald, and in that event to collate and assign the said deanery, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 30 marks sterling, to William; whether it become void by such deprivation and removal, or be void by the resignation of the said Donald, or by the deprivation and removal made by authority of papal letters of Cornelius Micgillabridi, or by the death of Florence Ymaelgraedhy, (fn. 3) or in any other way; notwithstanding that William holds the said rectory, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, which the pope hereby dispenses him to retain together with the deanery for ten years, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, provided that he do not hold two major or principal dignities, or two parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or such mixed, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Within the said period he is to resign which he pleases of the deanery and rectory for a benefice compatible with the one retained; if not, upon the lapse of the said period he is to resign the rectory. Ibid. (f. 43.)	To the archdeacon of Cloyne (Clonen.). Mandate as below. The pope lately (upon being informed by John Odoronaygh, a monk of the Cistercian monastery of St. Mary, Middleton (de Choro sancti Benedicti), in the diocese of Cloyne, that Rory Olathnayn, abbot thereof, had dilapidated etc. and converted to evil uses many of its goods, and committed simony and perjury, and was greatly defamed of the said and divers other crimes [not here expressed]) ordered the above archdeacon, the prior of St. Thomas the Martyr's by Buttevant (juxta Bottomiam) in the said diocese, and the precentor of Cloyne, their own names not being expressed, if and after John accused Rory before them, to summon Rory and others concerned, and if they found the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Rory, and in that event to make provision of the said monastery to John, and appoint him abbot, etc., the pope's letters stating that he had made the regular profession wont to be made by monks of the said monastery, and that its fruits etc. did not exceed a yearly value of 20 marks sterling. At John's recent petition, containing that he duly accused Rory before the said archdeacon, and that a number of acts have been proceeded to in execution of the said letters, but that John at the date of the said letters had not yet made his profession according to the custom of the said monastery, and that the said fruits etc. exceeded the said value, the pope hereby orders the above archdeacon to summon Rory and others concerned and, proceeding to further execution of the said letters, to decree and to grant to John (who is illegitimate, being the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, and has made his open profession according to the custom of the said monastery) that the said letters and processes held by the said archdeacon and their consequences shall hold good from the date of these presents, as if John had at the date of the said letters made the said profession, and as if it had been stated therein that the said value did not exceed 36 marks sterling. Prid. Id. July. (14 July.) Tivoli. (f. 45d.)	To the archdeacon, the precentor and the treasurer of Cork. Mandate (the pope having learned that a certain perpetual benefice called the parcel (particula) of Belgole in the diocese of Cork, of the patronage of laymen, has been so long void that there is no certain knowledge of the mode of voidance, and that by the Lateran Statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see. although Andrew Low and William Hodyne, who behave as parcellers (pro particulariis) of the said parcel, usurping its fruits, have divided them between them. and have unduly detained and still detain possession of it without canonical title or tittle of right) to summon the said Andrew and William, and to grant the said benefice, without cure and value not exceeding 7 marks sterling, in commendam for life to Miles (Miloni), abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Tracton (de Albotractu) in the said diocese, who alleges that although the said monastery, which is a notable one, was by its original foundation opulently endowed, and used to abound in fruits, nevertheless, by reason of the changes of time and other calamities, its fruits etc. are so much diminished that, not exceeding a yearly value of 60 marks sterling, the abbot cannot therewith keep up his estate and that of the convent, repair its buildings, and bear its other burdens, on account of the abundant hospitality which is given to princes, dukes, barons, knights and other noble guests, and also to the poor, without distinction of persons, etc.; the said Andrew and William being removed. Furthermore, the pope orders the above three to summon those concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to unite and appropriate the said benefice, provided that the patrons consent, to the said monastery in perpetuity, so that on the resignation or death of the said Miles, the abbot for the time being may take possession of it, and convert its fruits etc. to the uses of himself and the monastery, without requiring the licence of any one, etc. Digna reddimur attencione. 10 Kal. July. (22 June.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 52d.)	To Matthew, abbot of the Augustinian monastery of SS. Peter and Paul, Clare (de Forgio alias de Clar) in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.). Dispensation to him, to whom the pope intends this day to make provision of the church of Clonfert, to receive and exercise its rule and administration, and be bishop thereof, notwithstanding the defects of age, he being in his twenty-ninth year, and birth, he being the son of an abbot of the said order and an unmarried woman.Divina superveniens largitas. 1463. 12 Kal. Aug. (21 July.) Tivoli. (f. 120d.)	To the dean and the treasurer of Killaloe (Laonien.), and Donatus Maccraych, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Thady Ocayn, (fn. 4) a canon of the Augustinian monastery of SS. Peter and Paul, Clare (de Forgio alias Declar, recte de Clar), in the diocese of Killaloe, that Thady Ohandiathayn, prior of the Augustinian priory of Inyscronayn in the said diocese, has committed simony, dilapidated its goods, and, not ignorant that he had been excommunicated by his superior, namely, the present abbot of the said monastery, on which the said priory depends, and publicly proclaimed excommunicate, has celebrated masses and other divine offices in contempt of the Keys, and openly taken part therein, thereby contracting (fn. 5) irregularity.) if and after Okayn accuses Ohandiathayn before the above three, to summon Ohandiathayn and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Ohandiathayn, and in that event to send him back to his cloister, and collate and assign the priory, which is conventual and wont to be governed by canons of the said monastery, and is not elective, value not exceeding 16 marks sterling, to Okayn, whom the pope hereby dispenses to receive and retain it, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Religionis zelus, vite etc. (P. and Jo.
