(f. 45d.)		 To the prior of Inyscronayn in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.). Mandate, as below. Pius II (being informed by Thady Macnamara the younger, clerk, of the diocese of Killaloe, that Thady also Macnamara, archdeacon of Killaloe and rector of the parish church called the rectory of Ocassin in the said diocese, when he was being molested by Thady also Macnamara, clerk, of the same diocese, about the said rectory, made a simoniacal agreement therewith that if the latter would not disturb him in regard to the said rectory he would as long as he lived pay him part of the fruits etc., which he did, besides perpetrating other excesses and crimes) ordered certain judges, if Thady the younger would accuse Thady the archdeacon and rector before them, to summon the latter and others concerned, and if they found the facts to be as stated, to declare archdeacon Thady to be deprived of the archdeaconry, and to collate and assign it to Thady the younger; the said pope's letters mentioning Thady the younger's illegitimacy, as the son of a clerk and an unmarried woman, but not of the fact that they were related in one of the [prohibited] degrees of affinity or consanguinity, and also mentioning the fact that the said archdeacon had committed simony, not, however, in the way set forth above, but with Donald Macmictayg, clerk, of the said diocese, against whom he was litigating before certain judges in Ireland (in partibus) about the said rectory; in virtue of which letters Thady the younger caused archdeacon Thady to be summoned before certain judges. The present pope has been informed by Thady [son] of Laurence also Macnamara (Tatheus Laurencii eciam Macnamara), rector of the parish church of Cloynlaegh of the half cantred (medie chanthrede) of Oblayd in the same diocese, that after archdeacon Thady had, in virtue of certain papal letters, caused the late David Ocormachyn, then archdeacon of the said church, to be summoned before certain judges in regard to various crimes, he made a simoniacal agreement with him that if the said David would give up all his right in or to the archdeaconry he would pay him a certain sum of money, which he did, in accordance with which David gave up all his said right to the said judges, the said archdeacon Thady committing, moreover, perjury and alienating precious moveable and immoveable goods of the archdeaconry. The pope, therefore, considering that if the foregoing be true the said letters are to be held surreptitious, hereby orders the above prior, if the said Thady [son] of Laurence, who alleges that he is of a noble race of dukes, will accuse archdeacon Thady before the prior, to summon Thady the younger and archdeacon Thady and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to declare that the said letters are surreptitious, and that Thady the younger has no right in the said archdeaconry, and deprive and remove archdeacon Thady, and in that event collate and assign the said archdeaconry, a non-major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, to the said Thady [son] of Laurence; notwithstanding that he holds the said rectory of Cloynlaegh and the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Kyllogennedygh, in the same diocese, value not exceeding 16 and 6 marks sterling respectively, the former of which he is hereby specially dispensed to retain for life along with the archdeaconry, but the latter of which he is, as he has offered, to resign as soon as he obtains the archdeaconry, Dignum etc. (P. and M. (f. 140.)		 To Odo Machdonncayrianaid and Charles Mageiratthay (fn. 2) canons of Elphin, and the official of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Malachy Omochan. canon of Elphin, that Lewis Oflannagan, dean of Elphin, made an agreement with Fergal Obruachan, priest, of the diocese of Elphin, to whom the said deanery belonged, and who was contending with Lewis about it, that if Fergal would give up for Lewis's benefit his right in or to the deanery, Lewis would give him part of its fruits etc., upon which Fergal gave up such right, and Lewis paid him the said amount, thereby committing simony, and incurring the sentences therefor, bound by which he celebrated masses and other divine offices, even in contempt of the Keys, incurring irregularity and disability), if Malachy, who alleges that he is by both parents of noble birth, will accuse Lewis before the above three, to summon Lewis and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Lewis, and in that event to collate and assign the deanery, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, to Malachy, Nobilitas generis, vite etc. (N. and Alanus. | N. xv. (f. 277.)		 To the bishop of Orte, and the priors of Cluayntuasgeret and Eachraymomane in the diocese of Clonfert. Mandate to collate and assign to Odo Occallay, canon of Clonfert, (who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a bishop and an unmarried woman related in the fourth degree of affinity, to be promoted to minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, and afterwards by papal authority to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold another benefice even with cure), the archdeaconry of Clonfert, (to which are annexed the prebend of Mylyngsyna and Kylltullach, the vicarage of the parish church of the same place, and the rectory of the rural lands called Beanmor. [which vicarage and rectory are] wont to be assigned to secular clerks for a title of a perpetual benefice), void by the death of James Obrogayd; the said archdeaconry being a non-major elective dignity with jurisdictional cure only, and its value, together with the said annexes, not exceeding 16 marks sterling; notwithstanding that he holds a canonry of the said church and the prebend called Killcasbaygmaclayn, and the rectory of the parish church of Maygearnayn, in the diocese of Tuam. He is hereby dispensed to receive and retain the said archdeaconry, but as soon as he obtains it he is to resign the said canonry and prebend and rectory. Vite ac morum. (f. 281.)		 To the archbishop of Arles and the dean and Denis Odeayd, canon, of Killaloe (Laonien.). Mandate, as below. The treasurership of Killaloe, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, to which is perpetually annexed the vicarage of the parish church of Drumleyll in the diocese of Killaloe, and whose value, together with that of its annexes, does not exceed 8 marks sterling, being void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved to the pope, by the death there of Odo [son] of James Mac[c]onmara; and the rectory of the parish church of Bonrate alias Tradri (fn. 4) in the same diocese, of lay patronage and value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, being void, also at the apostolic see, by the death there of Matthew [son] of James Macconmara, the pope hereby orders the above three to collate and assign them both to Matthew [son] of Laurence Macconmara, clerk, of the said diocese, who alleges that he is by both parents of a race of dukes; whether they be void as above, or in any other way, or the said rectory (fn. 5) be still void by the death of Nicholas Macconmara, or because Donald and Matthew, [sons] of Thady Donati called Macconmara, (fn. 6) were not ordained priests within the lawful time, or the said treasurership and rectory be void by the resignations of the said Odo or Matthew [sons] of James; (fn. 7) provided that as regards the rectory the consent of the patrons be forthcoming. The pope hereby dispenses the said Matthew [son] of Laurence to receive and retain the said treasurership and rectory for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, once only. Tomo 8,’ is the contemporary description: Primus de dignitatibus vacantibus anno primo domini nostri domini Pauli pape secundi, as well as the contemporary order ‘R(ecipe) C., P.’ and the corresponding ‘Rubricatus [est], (twice). The contemporary description occurs also, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume. There are ff. i.—ccciiii. of text. The volume is much injured by water-stains, which have greatly obscured the writing.

Wenzel's ‘An. 1 to. 13.’ A contemporary end-paper has the contemporary descrip tion: Secundus de benefitiis vacantibus anno primo domini nostri domini Pauli pape ii., as well as the contemporary instruction: R(ecipe) Bayer, H., and the answering ‘Rubricatus [est].’ The above contemporary description ‘Secundus … pape ii.’ Occurs also, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume. This Register, which comprises ff. i.-cccxv. of text, contains nothing within the scope of the present Calendar.
