2 Pius II.

De Regularibus.

1459.
4 Id. Nov.
(10 Nov.)
Mantua.
(f. 39.)
To the abbot of St. Michael's, Scone, in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate as below. Eugenius IV ordered the abbot of Coupar-Angus (de Cupro), in the diocese of St. Andrews, to appropriate in perpetuity the parish church of Cryth in the said diocese, with its tithes etc., to the monastery of Lindores (de bemdoris, recte de londoris), (fn. 2) in the said diocese, etc. Afterwards, as the recent petition of the abbot and convent of Lindores contained, William then abbot of CouparAngus duly made the appropriation in perpetuity, and the abbot and convent obtained and now hold in virtue thereof possession of the said church, its value and that of their monastery not exceeding 20 and 500 marks sterling respectively. The pope therefore orders the above abbot, if he find the said appropriation lawful, to confirm and approve it and its consequences. Licet ea que. (H. and G. Gonne. | H. xxx. Folani.) [2⅓ pp. See Cal. Papal Lett., vol. VIII, p. 143.]

Mantua.
(f. 298.)
To Thomas Wallore, (fn. 3) a monk of the Cluniac monastery of Lentone in the diocese of York. Absolution as below. His recent petition contained that, on the voidance of the priorship of the said monastery, which is conventual, has cure and is of the patronage of Henry king of England, by the death of John Midelburgh, sometime prior, the said king presented him, a monk of the same, to John prior of the Cluniac priory of St. Pancras Lecweden. (sic) in the diocese of Chichester, chamberlain (camerario) and vicar-general in spirituals of the abbot of Cluny in the diocese of Macon, to whom belongs the institution of the prior of the said priory of Lentone, and that the said vicar, having special power from the said abbot, instituted Thomas, who, without having any papal dispensation on account of illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents, under pretext of the said presentation and institution took possession of the priory and has held it for about seven months. The pope therefore absolves him from sentences of excommunication etc. incurred and rehabilitates him, but requires him to resign.Sedes apostolica, pia mater. (P. and Ernestus. | P. xvi.de Varris.) [12/3 pp.]
Ibid.
(f. 299.)
To the prior of Newstead (de Novoloco) in the diocese of York. Mandate, recapitulating the preceding, (fn. 4) to collate and assign to the above Thomas, after he has duly resigned, and if he be found fit, and if the above king consent, the above priory, value not exceeding 100 marks sterling. The pope hereby dispenses him, notwithstanding the above defect, to receive and retain it. Dignum arbitramur. (P. and Jo. Bigneti. | P. xxxxvi. Quartodecimo Kal. Februarii Anno Secundo. de Varris.) [4 pp.]
