Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Italian:Paolo ii. 1468. Anno v. Lib. 1., and on a modern end-paper is Mgr. Wenzel's An. v. to. xvi.’ A contemporary end-paper has the contemporary description: Primus de prebendis vacantibus et dignitatibus vacantibus [anno] vto domini nostri domini Pauli pape ii, the order ‘R(ecipe) +, P.' and the answering ‘Rubricatus est.’ The cross doubtless represents the ‘Petrus de Sancta Cruce’ of Reg. Lat. DCLXXI, f. 307d, above, p. 643, note, although the writing of ‘Rubricatus est’ in the present volume and that of ‘Rubricatus et registratus per Petrum de Sancta +’ in Reg. DCLXXI are different. The latter is probably, however, not autograph. If it had been, ‘per me Petrum’ would have been written. A similar contemporary description occurs, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume. There are ff. i.—cccxxv. of text.
  • 2. ’Clonensis diocesis in eadem,’ the more usual expression being simply ‘in eadem,’ sc. ‘in eadam ecclesia Clonensi,’ i.e. without any mention of the diocese. The words ‘Clonensis diocesis’ are therefore apparently redundant. Cf. the next mandate, and also f. 161d.
  • 3. Thus spelt differently from the surname of Odo Macconmary, which itself is more usually spelt ‘Macconmara.’
  • 4. unicus.
  • 5. Or ‘Kylinglorx.’
  • 6. Luuercien. recte Limericen.
  • 7. ’Sanctum Petrum’ is cancelled, and ‘Sanctum Marcum’ substituted in the margin by ‘H.’
  • 8. canonicatus et pensionaria nuncupata prebenda ecclesie Brethinensis (recte Brechinensis).
  • 9. Waltini, recte Walteri.
  • 10. Here ‘Walteri.’
  • 11. On f. 216, under date 1468–9, 4 Non. March anno 5, is a collation of the deanery of the church of St. Frambaud (S. Frambaldi), Senlis (Silvanecten.), to Nicholas Baret, already a canon of the same.
  • 12. canonicatus ecclesie Armachane et prebenda de Balecluig dicte ecclesie in eadem, the words ‘dicte ecclesie’ being apparently redundant. Cf. above, note to f. 56d.
  • 13. recte Cnocracha, i.e. Knockrath.
  • 14. No diocese has yet been mentioned.
  • 15. Comarcus, recte Cormacus, as it is written further on in the letter.
  • 16. principalis,? recte major.
  • 17. earumque (? recte ciusque) collatio iuxta Lateranensis statuta concilii est ad sedem apostolicam legitime devoluta.
