Collation and provision of the said archdeaconry, a non-major dignity with cure, value 24 marks sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the recent resignation to the pope of David Conel, [bishop] elect of Kildare. The pope further dispenses him to receive and retain with it for life any other benefice, or without it any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if two parish churches, etc., or dignities, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. To the archdeacon of Dromore, the prior of Down (Dunen.), and Donald Offergayl, a canon of Ardagh. Mandate to grant to Dermit Oconmuil, abbot of the monastery of St. Mary, rebuilt by the name of the Trinity, Wrburrun, (fn. 2) O. Praem., in the diocese of Connor (Connerinen.), (who alleges that he has been for more than five years dispossessed of the rule and administration of the said monastery, and who was lately dispensed on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a deacon and an unmarried woman, to be made a clerk, and subsequently, when provision had been ordered to be made to him of the said monastery by papal authority, was dispensed by the same authority to rule and administer it, etc.), the priory of the Black Monastery in Ardo alias in Ardullaid, (fn. 3) O.S.B., in the diocese of Down, which has been so long void that there is no certain knowledge of the mode of its voidance, although a number of laymen hold possession of its fruits, and which has long been without a convent of monks, (fn. 4) and whose yearly value does not exceed 12 marks sterling; the same to be held by him in commendam for life, even after he has recovered possession of the said monastery, the yearly value of which does not exceed 12 marks sterling. (fn. 5) The pope hereby dispenses him to receive the said priory, and retain it for life with the said monastery, and to resign it when he pleases, and give up such commenda, and receive and retain for life instead a similar or dissimilar benefice wont to be held by monks or religious of the said orders or other orders, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Personam dilecti filii. To the abbot of Molana (de Insula Sancti Malanfyd) in the diocese of Lismore, the archdeacon of Lismore, and Maurice Stak, a canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by James Cantwel, clerk, of the diocese of Lismore, that Thomas Oranayn, treasurer of Lismore, was deputed executor of certain papal letters ordering a certain secular clerk to be received as a canon of a certain monastery, and, after he had made his profession, provision to be made to him thereof, and that before the said treasurer would proceed to execution he bargained with the said clerk that the latter should give him a sum of money and other things, failing which he would not proceed, and that after he had received the same, or a promise thereof, he proceeded to execution, as above, thereby incurring simony and the sentences of excommunication etc. promulgated against simoniacs, and that, being under the said sentences, he has celebrated masses and other divine offices in contempt of the Keys. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said James (who is illegitimate, being the son of a bishop and an unmarried woman, nobles, and has been made a clerk) will accuse the said Thomas before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said treasurership, a nonmajor dignity with cure, value 30 marks sterling, to the said James. The pope further dispenses him (to whom he recently ordered provision to be made of the treasurership of Cashel, a non-major dignity, which also has cure, value not exceeding 16 marks sterling, at the same time dispensing him to be promoted to all, even holy orders, and receive and retain it [below, f. 253r.]), to receive the said treasurership of Lismore, and to retain it for life with that of Cashel, or without one of them any other benefice, or without [both of] them any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., and also any benefices with or without cure compatible therewith and with one another, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. (At the end: P. xxxxv. To the treasurer of Limerick. Mandate, as below. A canonry of Limerick and the prebend called the prebend of Donahacmor (recte Donachmor) therein became void, and ipso facto reserved to Paul II, because the late Gibunnus alias Gilbertus Artur, when holding them, obtained under letters of the said pope, and during the lifetime of that pope, the treasurership of the said church. The said canonry and prebend not having been disposed of by the said pope before his death, and being therefore reserved to the present pope, he hereby orders the above treasurer to collate and assign them, value 8 marks sterling, to Cornelius Omullony, perpetual vicar of Sraydbali in the diocese of Killaloe (Laon[i]en.), bachelor in decrees; summoning and removing Thomas Condulum, priest, who, as the said Cornelius alleges, has without title or right detained possession for between five and six years by collation of the ordinary, but not for more than two years in peace. To the abbot of St. Mary's, Fermoy (de Castro dei), and the prior of St. Mary's, Bridgetown (Ville pontis), in the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.), and the dean of Cloyne. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Denis Isyadrayn, priest, of the diocese of Cloyne, contained that upon the voidance, by the death extra R.c. of William Osichan, of the perpetual vicarages of the united parish churches of Castellton Magnel (which is of lay patronage) and Moymarrach, in the said diocese, he made a bargain with the patron of Castellton that if he would present him to the ordinary he would pay him a certain sum of money, after which the said patron presented him to Gerald (Giralldo), bishop of Cloyne, who, perhaps in ignorance of the said bargain, instituted him to the said perpetual vicarages, in virtue of which presentation and institution he obtained possession, and has held the said churches for between one and two years. The said presentation and institution being therefore without force, and the said perpetual vicarages still void as above, and those of the parish churches of Rosquin and Soboltor in the same diocese being also void, viz. by the death of William Osiachcam extra R.c., and having been so long void that their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Thomas Obregin and Thady Ocrumyn, respectively, have detained them for between two and three years, without any canonical title; and the said Denis alleging that the said vicarages of Rosquin and Soboltor are so near that they and those of Castellton and Moymarrach could be served by one man, and that they were all held by the said William, having been united for his lifetime, the pope hereby orders the above three to absolve the said Denis (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a clerk and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy and priest's orders, and hold a benefice even with cure) from the sentences etc. promulgated against simoniacs, enjoining a salutary penance, rehabilitate him, dispense him on account of irregularity contracted, and dispense him to minister in the said orders, and, after he has resigned to them the said vicarages of Casellton and Moymarrach, to collate and assign them to him, value 10 marks sterling, and to unite (fn. 6) to them, for his lifetime only, those of Rosquyn and Soboltor, value 2 and 3 marks sterling, respectively. To the dean, the archdeacon, and the treasurer of Cashel. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the rectory of Dranlesch in the diocese of Emly (Imelacen.) is void because Richard Macbrein held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest, and without dispensation. He has also been informed by Matthew Omikean, clerk, of the diocese of Cashel, that Lorchanus Omihean (?), (fn. 7) perpetual vicar of the parish church of St. Mary de Alba in the said diocese of Cashel, has allowed some of his parishioners to die without the sacraments, that he bargained to pay a certain sum of money to the ordinary if the latter would unite to the said parish a certain parcel of another parish, which sum he paid after the said union had been made, thereby incurring simony, and that he has dilapidated and converted to evil uses the fruits etc. of the said vicarage. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Matthew, who is of noble birth, will accuse the said Lorcanus before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said rectory, which has cure, and the said vicarage, value 8 and 5 marks sterling, respectively, to the said Matthew, whom the pope hereby dispenses to receive and retain them together for life. The pope has been informed by Malachy Oronayn, a canon of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (de Fonte Sancti Patritii), O.S.A., in the diocese of Tuam, that on the voidance of the perpetual vicarage of Oyne in the said diocese by the death of Philip Mecconbay extra R.c., John Macmetuli, clerk, of the said diocese, made certain gifts to a certain temporal lord, in order that the latter might help him to obtain the said vicarage, after which the ordinary, perhaps in ignorance of the foregoing, made collation and provision to him, under pretext of which he obtained possession, and has detained it for between eleven months and a year, thereby incurring sentence of excommunication, etc. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Malachy (who is illegitimate, being the son of an abbot of the said monastery of Holy Trinity and an unmarried woman, with whom the said abbot's brother had previously committed adultery and also had offspring by her (fn. 9) ), will accuse the said John before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to decree and declare the said collation and provision without force, and remove the said John, and in that event to grant the said vicarage, with cure and value 3 marks sterling, to the said Malachy in commendam for life. To John Ohedian, a canon of Emly (Imelacen.). Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Robert Haket, clerk, of the diocese of Cashel, that John Prindigas has committed perjury and has dilapidated and converted to evil uses the fruits of his prebend, called the prebend of Mortun alias Ballynemona in the church of Lismore, and allows the parish church of Mortun alias Ballynemona in the diocese of Lismore, from which the said prebend was erected, to lie in ruin and its roof to be destroyed, to the shame of the clerical order. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above canon, if the said Robert, who from fear of John's power cannot safely meet him in the city or diocese of Lismore, will accuse the said John before him, to summon the latter, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend, value 12 marks sterling, to the said Robert.
