To the abbot of Ballintober (de Fonte sancti Patrici[i]) in the diocese of Tuam, and Donatus Okaennalud and Odo Okallanan, canons of Annaghdown (Enachdunen.). Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by William Joy, perpetual vicar of Chitynglygh in the diocese of Chichester, that William Bremchiam, archdeacon of Tuam, has laid violent hands on a certain Thomas Joy, priest, and kept him in prison, and treated him so cruelly that he has died, thereby incurring sentence of excommunication, and, being under the said sentence, has taken part in divine offices. The pope therefore orders the above three, if the said William Joy (who was dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a noble priest, an archdeacon, and an unmarried woman of a race of barons, to be promoted to all holy even priest's orders and hold a benefice [even with cure], and who in virtue thereof has had himself so promoted) will accuse the said William Bremchiam before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said archdeaconry, a non-major, non-elective dignity with cure, value 16 marks sterling, to the said William Joy. To the archbishop and the archdeacon of Tuam, and Dermit Oscara, a canon of the same. Mandate to grant in commendam for life to Thady Ochyarnay, a canon of Tuam, the monastery of St. John the Evangelist, Tuam, O.S.A., value 24 marks sterling, so long void that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Milerus de Burgo, clerk, who is to be summoned and removed, has detained possession for about two years without any title. To the archdeacon of Killala (Aladen.), and Thomas Baret and David Cok, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Dermit Omacnay, clerk, of the diocese of Killala, that Pius II, on being informed by Nillanus Yduba, a canon of Killala, of the demerits of Cornelius Ybeuachallay, sometime vicar of the parish church of Castleconor (de Castro Conchuur) in the said diocese, ordered William Baret, a canon of Killala and fellow executors to deprive and remove the said Cornelius, and to make provision of the said vicarage, on its becoming thus void, to the said Nillanus; that the said Nillanus made a bargain with the said William that if the latter made him provision of the said vicarage, on its becoming void by a sentence of deprivation of the said Cornelius, he would give him certain moveable goods; that the said William, after receiving the said goods, delivered sentence of deprivation, and made de facto collation and provision of the said vicarage, thus void, to the said Nillanus, who thereby incurred simony and the sentences of excommunication, etc., therefor; that under pretext of the said null collation and provision the said Nillanus took possession of the said vicarage, and got it united by the chapter of Killala to the prebend of Kylandle in that church, which he afterwards held, as he still does, and under pretext of such union detains possession of the said vicarage; that he is a notorious fornicator, and has alienated and dilapidated the goods of the said vicarage; and that on account of the abomination of his scandalous fornication, and of the fact that through his neglect of the cure of souls in the said vicarage, the parishioners of the said parish church resort for hearing divine offices and receiving the sacraments to other churches. The said collation and provision made to Nillanus and the subsequent union being therefore without force, the pope hereby orders the above three, if Dermit will accuse Nillanus before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to decree and declare the said collation and provision and union to have been and to be without force, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 8 marks sterling, to the said Dermit, removing the said Nillanus. To Master Robert Blakadier, archdeacon of Aberdeen, a papal notary. Collation, etc., as below. His recent petition contained that under pretext of certain letters of the pope (ordering provision to be made to him of a canonry of Glasgow and another of Aberdeen, with reservation of as many prebends and of a dignity, etc., of one of the said churches, and reservation of a benefice with or without cure, wont to be assigned to secular clerks, in the gift of the archbishop and the prior and chapter etc. of St. Andrews, even if it were a canonry and prebend or a dignity, etc., and even if such dignities were major and elective, etc.), he accepted and got provision made to him of the archdeaconry of Aberdeen, on its voidance by the death of Alexander Rath, a continual commensal member of the pope's household, and that he obtained possession and still detains it, but taking none of the fruits. The said acceptance and provision being without force, under the pope's late reservation of all dignities etc. of all continual commensal members of his household, and the said archdeaconry being therefore still void, the pope hereby collates and assigns to him, who is by both parents of noble birth, the said archdeaconry, a non-major dignity, value 25l. sterling, whether void as above, or void in any other way. As soon as he obtains possession of it, the said letters shall be without force as far only as regards a dignity etc. of Glasgow and Aberdeen. Grata deuotionis obsequia. |

To the dean of Armagh and Donald Machayid (?) (fn. 2) and Malachy Margaue [sic], canons of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Donald Ollucken, clerk, of the diocese of Armagh (who has been dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents, to be made a clerk), the rectory of Tullyneschi (fn. 3) in the said diocese, value 3 marks sterling, void because Nillanus Ocolonarii, priest, of the said diocese, when holding it, obtained the [perpetual] vicarage of Killnor in the same diocese, and detained possession of it with the said rectory for about six months without dispensation, and so long void that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see; summoning and removing the said Nillanus. To Eugenius Orodecun (?), (fn. 4) a canon of Ardagh. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the perpetual vicarage of Kildacamog in the diocese of Ardagh, which was lately united to a canonry of Ardagh for as long as William Offergayl should hold the latter, has become void because the said canonry has become void by his marriage, and the consequent dissolution of the said union, although he has for several years after the said marriage held possession of the fruits of the said vicarage; and has learned that the rural rectory of the place (fn. 5) of Munidtengalle (fn. 6) in the said diocese is also void. The pope has also been informed by Bernard Offergail, clerk, of the said diocese, that Eugenius Macconcairgri and Gerald Offargaile, each of whom alleged that provision had been made to him by papal authority of the said rectory, have bargained to share it and its fruits etc. between them. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above canon, if the said Bernard (who has had himself made a clerk, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, both of noble birth and related in the fourth degree of kindred) will accuse the said Eugenius and Gerald before him, to summon them and the said William and, if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive the said Eugenius and Gerald of any right which belonged to them in or to the said rectory, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 8 marks sterling, and the said rectory, without cure and value 60 marks sterling, to the said Bernard, and to cause the said vicarage to be united to the said rectory for as long as he shall hold the latter, the said Eugenius and Gerald and William being removed. The pope further dispenses him to be promoted to all even holy orders and receive the said rectory, and retain it with the said annexed vicarage, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Dignum etc. (P. xxx.
