1421. 4 Non. July. Tivoli. (f. 58d.)	To Denis, elect of Ossory. Provision to him, precentor of Limerick, in minor orders only, I.U.B., of the see of Ossory, void by the death of Patrick, during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope. Diuina disponente.

Provision to him, a canon of Kilfenora, in priest's orders, of the see of Kilfenora, which became void by the death of Patrick, during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope, in ignorance perhaps of which reservation the chapter elected the said Florence, who likewise in ignorance, gave his consent and who, on learning the said reservation, has caused the matter of the said election to be set forth to the pope in consistory. 16 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 102d.)	To Marcellus, abbot of St. Augustine's without the walls of Canterbury, immediately subject. Confirmation of the election lately made by the convent of him, a monk of the said monastery, in priest's orders, on its voidance by the death of Thomas; he having, after giving his consent thereto, caused the matter of the election to be set forth before the pope in consistory and sought confirmation, and the pope having received from Jordan, bishop of Albano, a report that the election was canonical. The election is confirmed, even if the provision was reserved, and Marcellus is hereby appointed abbot. Inter solicitudines. [See above, p. 171.]

4 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 105.)	To Richard, abbot of Westminister, immediately subject, in the diocese of London. Confirmation of the election lately made by the convent of him, a monk of the said monastery, in priest's orders, on its voidance by the death of William; he having etc., as in the preceding, and the pope having received a like report, as ibid., from Anthony, bishop of Porto. The election is, etc., mutatis mutandis. Summi disposicione rectoris.

2 Kal. March. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 106.)	To John, bishop of Chichester. Translation of him, bishop of Rochester, to the above see, his postulation to which by the chapter (on its voidance by the death of Henry, during whose life it was reserved by the present pope, which postulation they caused to be set forth before the pope in consistory) being null. Before receiving possession of the administration of the goods of the said see he is to take to the archbishop of Canterbury and the bishop of Winchester, or one of them, the usual oath. 1420. 10 Kal. Jan. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 122.)	To John Oragillich, Augustinian abbot of St. Mary's, Kells (de Kenlys), in the diocese of Meath. Provision to him, canon of Cruczelingen without the walls of Constance, of the said order, in priest's orders, of the above abbey, void by the death of Matthew, during whose life it was specially reserved by John XXIII. 1421. 19 Kal. Feb. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 123.)	To James, bishop of Spoleto, residing in the Roman court. Mandate, if he find that, as the pope has learned, the Cistercian monastery of Assaroe (Sameria) in the diocese of Raphoe became void by the death of abbot Goffredus, to make provision of it, the value of whose abbatial mensa does not exceed 25 marks, to Thady (Tytheus) Macamilltaich, monk thereof, a priest, who recently [above, p. 181] received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest, an abbot of the said order, and an unmarried woman, to hold any dignities of the order, even if elective and with cure, provided that such a dignity were not in a monastery which had been under the rule of his father, and that such dignities were not abbatial. The bishop is to bless Thady or cause him to be blessed by another catholic bishop, without prejudice to the bishop of Raphoe. Thady is hereby dispensed to hold the abbey. Ex susceptc seruitutis.

Provision to him, abbot of St. Mary's without the walls of York, in priest's orders, of the see of Rochester, void and therefore reserved by the pope's recent translation, in his absence, of bishop John to Chichester. Provision to him, an Augustinian canon of Christchurch, Twynham, in the diocese of Winchester, bachelor of canon law, in priest's orders, of the see of Annadown, void by the death of Henry, during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope. Id. Oct. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 196d.)	To the prior of the priory of Newtown by Trym in the diocese of Meath. Mandate (at the recent petition of William, Augustinian abbot of St. Mary the Virgin's, Trym, containing that on the voidance of St. Mary's by the death of Thomas, the convent duly elected the said William, then a canon thereof, in priest's orders; that he consented to the eléction and had it confirmed and himself blessed by bishop Edward; and that some doubt the validity of the said election and confirmation) if he find that the election and confirmation were canonical, to confirm them and moreover, for William's greater safeguard, to make provision to him of the said abbey, net value not exceeding 40 marks. 8 Kal. Sept. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 203.)	To the provost of Elphin. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Thady Macdiarmada, Cistercian monk of St. Mary's, Boyle (de Bullio), in the diocese of Elphin, that Congallus, Premonstratensian abbot of Lough Key (Insula Sancte Trinitatis de Lochque) in the said diocese, has been guilty of dilapidation, of simony in the admission of Thomas Yconallan and Donald Micgilliachanaych as canons of the said abbey, by extorting from each of them 10s. of silver, of the money current in those parts, worth about 3 florins of gold of the camera, and also in making collation and provision to Araltheus Ocathaalan, canon of the said abbey, of the priory of Lough Oughter (Insula Sancte Trinitatis de Lochuachtair) in the diocese of Kilmore, which is in the gift of the abbot of the said abbey, by extorting from him the same sum), if the said Thady will accuse the said abbot in presence of the above provost, to summon the abbot and others concerned, and if he find the above or a sufficient part of it to be true, to deprive the said abbot, and in that event, and if he find Thady fit, to make provision of the abbey, the value of whose abbatial mensa does not exceed 15 marks sterling, to him, who is by both parents of noble birth, and to grant that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall receive and send his oath of fealty, as usual; without prejudice to the bishop of Elphin. Non. Nov. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 233.)	To the dean of Kilmacduagh. Mandate to summon the bishop of Killaloe and others concerned, and if he find that the Augustinian priory of Ynyscronayn in the diocese of Killaloe is so impoverished that the canons have to go forth and work for their living, to appropriate to it the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 3 marks, that of the said monastery not exceeding 6, of the parish church of Kyllsuagallayd in the said diocese, which is void by the death of Donatus Ymadagayn, is situate on the bounds (in confinibus) of the parish of the church of the said monastery, and whose cure could be easily exercised by the canons thereof. Mandate (at the recent petition of Dominic Kenythi, Benedictine monk of Iona (Hy insula) in the diocese of Sodor, containing that on the voidance of the same by the death of abbot John, the convent duly elected the said Dominic, in priest's orders; that he consented to the election and had it confirmed and himself blessed by bishop Richard; that some doubt the validity of the election and confirmation, and that the abbey is said to be still void) to confirm the said election and confirmation, and moreover to make provision to Dominic of the said abbey, net value not exceeding 30l. of old sterlings. 4 Id. Nov. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 265.)	To the prior of the priory of Newtown by Trym in the diocese of Meath. Mandate (at the recent petition of William, abbot, and the Augustinian convent of St. Mary's, Trym, in the said diocese, to confirm the donation in frank almoin, formerly made to them by Edmund de Mortuomari, earl of March and Ulster and lord of the places of Clare, Trym and Connacie in the said diocese, of the patronage of the parish church of Kyldalk in the same diocese, and of the appropriation made to the said monastery by bishop Edward, of the said church on its voidance by the death of the rector, James FitzSymon, value not exceeding 60 and 40 marks respectively, by virtue of which appropriation they have taken and hold possession), after enquiry, to confirm the said donation and appropriation, reserving a portion for a perpetual vicar to be instituted, if he has not been instituted already. Id. Oct. S Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 265d.)	To the abbot of St. Mary's, Trym, in the diocese of Meath. Mandate (at the recent petition of Robert Braynok, canon of the Augustinian priory of the House of God, Molinger, in the diocese of Meath, containing that on the voidance of the said priory by the free resignation of the late Thomas Bryde, made to the late Robert, bishop of Meath, who accepted it by his ordinary authority [substituted in the margin, with note ‘Correctum et cassatum de mandato domini vicecancellarii, Ja. de Cerretanis,’ for ‘on the voidance of the said priory by the death of Thomas Bryde’], the convent duly elected the said Robert [the surname ‘Braynok’ is here and in every other case added in the margin, in consequence of the above correction], that he consented to the election and had it confirmed and himself blessed by the said bishop [corrected in the margin from Edward, bishop of Meath]; and that he doubts whether his election and confirmation to the said priory which, as the pope has learned, is still void as above, hold good) to collate and assign to Robert the said priory, dependent on no monastery or other regular place, value not exceeding 40 marks, whether it became void as above, or by the death of John Dyllon, or otherwise. 4 Id. Nov. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 283d.)	To Walter, Benedictine abbot of St. Thomas the Martyr's, Abirbrothoc, in the diocese of St. Andrews. Absolution as below. Abbot Walter ordered a number of his friends and servants (familiares) to capture and bring back William de Dalketh, an apostate monk of Abirbrothoc. They found and captured him in the city of St. Andrews, where there is a university, and were taking him back, when they saw a furious multitude coming forth from the city, which pursued them hard with bows and arrows and other arms and short at them, wherefore in self-defence they shot and wounded with an arrow one of the said multitude, who is said to have died in a few days. Thereupon bishop Henry, although aware that the said abbot was exempt from his jurisdiction etc. for a period then not expired, and was immediately subject to the apostolic see, excommunicated him. The pope therefore, ex abundanti cautela, absolves him from the said sentence, rehabilitates him, and dispenses him on account of irregularity contracted, etc. Personam tuam.
4 Kal. Nov. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 285d.)	To the abbot of St. Mary's by Dublin. Mandate to hear the confession of Nicholas Stutard, Augustinian canon of St. Thomas the Martyr's by Dublin, and if he find that by laying violent hands on ecclesiastics even to the shedding of blood, by carrying prohibited arms, by playing at dice (ad taxillos) and other unlawful games, by entering nunneries, taverns and other forbidden and unseemly places, by putting off his habit with intent to apostatize, or otherwise wandering forth and incurring apostasy, by refusing obedience to his superiors or conspiring against them, by leaving the precincts of his monastery without leave, by celebrating divine offices in presence of the excommunicated and interdicted etc., by falsifying (radendo) papal letters or otherwise putting hand to them unlawfully, or by uncleanness of the flesh, he has incurred sentences of excommunication, suspension and interdict, has committed perjury and other sins, and has omitted to say the canonical hours, after he has made satisfaction to those he has injured by such perjuries etc., to absolve him, except in cases reserved to the apostolic see, etc., to rehabilitate him and, after temporary suspension, to dispense him on account of irregularity. 6 Kal. Sept. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 289d.)	To the treasurer of Lincoln. Mandate to confirm the appropriation by the late John, bishop of Lincoln, to the Cistercian prioress and convent of Stikesweld in the diocese of Lincoln, with consent of the chapter of Lincoln and others concerned, of the parish church of Waynfleet in the said diocese, value not exceeding 100 marks, that of the priory not exceeding 300; and to confirm likewise the confirmation of the said appropriation by Boniface IX, granted at the petition of the said prioress and convent, stating that it had taken effect on the voidance of the said church by the resignation of the rector, the said pope requiring that a portion for a perpetual vicar having the cure of the parishioners should be assigned by the said bishop, if such had not been already done. 15 Kal. Dec. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 290.)	To Dominic Dominici, Benedictine monk of St. Columba's, Iona (de Hy insula), in the diocese of Sodor. Dispensation to him (who is a priest and who formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest, a Benedictine monk, and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice with or without cure, after which he entered and made his profession in the above monastery and was subsequently promoted to all holy orders) to hold any benefice with or without cure, wont to be governed by monks of his order or by secular clerks, and resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and to be elected to the abbatial dignity. 13 Kal. Nov. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 304.)	To the abbot of St. Mary's without the walls of Dublin. Mandate (at the petition of the prior and brethren of the Hospitallers’ priory of Kylmaynan in the diocese of Dublin, containing that formerly James Tinelli, prior of Auvergne, Raymond Lescure, prior of Toulouse, and Philip de Languilhia, prior [of Saint-Gilles?] (Jacobus Tinelli Aluernie Raymundus Lescure Tholose et Philippus de Languilhia prioratuum priores), vice-gerents in the chapter-general recently held in the city of Aix in the province of Provence of the late Philibert de Nailhago, master-general of the Hospital, having regard to the fact that the priory of Rhodes, which has been the usual residence of the master-general, in whose gift has hitherto been the said priory of Kylmaynan, is so distant that its voidance cannot safely be made known to him, whence prolonged voidances, granted with assent of the said chapter power and faculty to the said prior and brethren to elect on occasion of voidance one of themselves, resident at Rhodes, if fit, or another, more fit, residing in Kylmaynan, the confirmation of such election being reserved to the said master for the time being, as is said to be contained in letters sealed with the leaden seal of the said Philibert in absence of the common seal of the convent of Rhodes), if the facts be as stated, to confirm the said grant.
