Mandate to dispense James de Barri, donsel, and Orlayth yny Mekarithys, damsel, of his diocese, who formerly committed fornication several times and had offspring, not in ignorance that they were related in the fourth and double third degrees of kindred and affinity, after imposing a penance for the incest, to contract marriage and solemnize it before the church, decreeing past and future offspring legitimate. 1425. Id. May. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 60.)	To John Waryn, rector of Cardynan (sic) in the diocese of Exeter, licentiate of canon law. Dispensation as below. Boniface IX dispensed him to hold for ten years with the perpetual vicarage of Leskyret in the said diocese any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, with the usual condition of exchanging or resigning. The pope hereby dispenses him (who has become a licentiate of canon law by examination, has obtained and holds by virtue of the said dispensation, having resigned the said vicarage, the parish churches of Cardynam and Parkham in the said diocese, and holds a canonry and prebend of Exeter, value altogether not exceeding 100 marks) to hold the said two churches together for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he wishes. 2 Kal. Sept. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 95d.)	To Master Peter Nardi, papal chaplain and auditor. Mandate as below. The pope recapitulates his recent mandate [above, p. 411, here without mention of the values] to the bishop of Chichester to appropriate to the prior and convent of Michelham the parish churches of Flecchyng and Alfenston (also written Alfriston), already appropriated to them by bishop Robert and confirmed to them by Boniface IX, and the recent petition of the prior and convent, containing that a suit arose lately, before the date of the present pope's said letters, between them and John Toli, priest, of the diocese of Chichester, the prior and convent claiming the church of Flicchyng (sic), on its voidance by the death of John Crwcher, in virtue of the said appropriation, and Toli claiming that he had been presented by Thomas Stokil, layman, as patron, to Walter Euston, canon of Chichester, vicar-general in spirituals of bishop Thomas, and ought to be instituted; that the cause went before the said vicar, from whom and from the official of Canterbury Toli appealed on fictitious grounds to the apostolic see; that at length the pope at the instance of Toli, who made no mention of the said suit, committed the cause which Toli proposed to bring against the prior and convent to the above auditor, who has proceeded short of a conclusion; and that in the pope's said letters there is no specific mention of the said suit, on account of which the prior and convent fear lest the said letters may remain unexecuted. At the said petition, the pope orders the above auditor, if he find that the said layman has not the patronage of Flicchyng (sic), to proceed to the execution of the said letters as if full mention had been made therein of the said suit. 1426. 19 Kal. Sept. Genazzano. (f. 223d.)	To the prior of the priory of Eachros in the diocese of Killala. Mandate to make provision to Nemeas Obeollayn, perpetual vicar of Druymclyab in the diocese of Elphin (who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of a married man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he was tonsured and obtained the above vicarage), of a canonry of Elphin and another of Killala, and to reserve and to collate and assign to him a prebend of each; notwithstanding that he holds the said vicarage, value not exceeding 16 marks. As soon as in virtue of the present letters he has obtained a prebend in one of the said churches, they are to be null as regards a prebend in the other. Dignum etc. (Ja. xxiiii. Kal. Collation and provision to him (who is a priest, and who lately received successive papal dispensations, as the son of a married man and an unmarried woman, (i) to be promoted etc., as in the preceding, (ii) to hold any dignities, major in metropolitan or other cathedral, or principal in collegiate churches, even if elective and with cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, and moreover to be promoted to any episcopal dignities, below, Reg. CCLX, f. 232d) of a canonry of Elphin, with reservation of a prebend and a dignity, not major, personatus etc., and of a benefice with or without cure, value not exceeding 25 or 18 marks accordingly, in the common or several gift of the bishop and chapter of Killala, provided that it be not a canonry and prebend of a cathedral church, etc. Litterarum etc.

Indult to rent, let or grant to farm or yearly pension, as often as they think good, to any persons, even laymen, the fruits etc. of their said priory and of their churches and other benefices, without requiring licence of the diocesans or any other; provided that such leases do not extend beyond seven years at a time. 4 Kal. Sept. Genazzano. (f. 272d.)	To Patrick de Hwyston, canon of Glasgow, licentiate of canon and civil law. Dispensation as below. Lately [above, p. 257] the pope—after having ordered provision to be made to him of a benefice with or without cure wont to be assigned to secular clerks in the common or several gift of the abbots and convents of the Cluniac monastery of Paisley (de Passeleto) and the Benedictine monastery of Kylwynnyne in the diocese of Glasgow, with the condition of resigning, upon obtaining such benefice with cure, his perpetual vicarage of Linlithg[o]w in the diocese of St. Andrews—dispensed him to hold for five years together with the said vicarage any other benefice with cure [or otherwise] incompatible with it, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, once only, after which dispensation he obtained and held with the said perpetual vicarage that of Kathkert in the diocese of Glasgow, and still holds them both, value, with the said canonry and prebend of Glasgow, not exceeding 82l. of old sterlings. The end of the said five years being at hand, the pope hereby dispenses him, who became a licentiate of canon and civil law by examination, to hold the said vicarages together for life and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. To John de Benyng, perpetual vicar of Linitrathin in the diocese of St. Andrews, M.A. Dispensation to him (who is a secretary of James, king of Scotland, and who formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 223d, by virtue of which he obtained the above vicarage, value not exceeding 10l. sterling) to hold with the said vicarage four other benefices with or without cure, compatible with it and with one another, and to resign them all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Dispensation to him (who is … f. 223d, as in the preceding, after which the present pope made provision to him, then holding the above vicarage, of a canonry of Moray, with reservation of a prebend and of a benefice with or without cure [value etc. not stated] in the common or several gift of the bishop and the prior and chapter of St. Andrews, even if a canonry and prebend, dignity etc., dispensing him to hold such canonry and prebend and benefice together for life, and to hold for three years together with the said vicarage such dignity etc., with the usual condition of exchanging meanwhile, or thereafter resigning the vicarage, value not exceeding 10l. sterling) to hold any mutually compatible benefices of any number and kind, with and without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Dispensation to him (who holds the above vicarage, with cure, is in acolyte's orders only, is a secretary etc. and lately received papal dispensation as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman (i) to be promoted etc., (ii) to hold four other benefices etc., as ibid.) not to be bound during five years, on account of the said vicarage or any other benefice with cure or otherwise requiring holy orders, provided that within a year he have himself ordained subdeacon, to be promoted to other holy orders. Dispensation to him (whom the pope lately [p. 393] dispensed to hold for a year with the said archdeaconry, or with the deanery of the same church, to which he had been elected, any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, with the usual condition of exchanging meanwhile, or of resigning thereafter either the archdeaconry or the deanery; and whose recent petition contained that after the said dispensation he obtained the parish church of Est Lavant in the diocese of Chichester, and still holds it together with the said archdeaconry, value not exceeding 40l. sterling each) that even after the said year he may hold the said archdeaconry, even if it have cure, and the said church together for five years, and resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead two incompatible benefices, etc. Litterarum etc.

Dispensation to him (whom lately, after having received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried nobleman and an unmarried noblewoman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 223d, the pope, in making provision to him, who had the tonsure, of the parish church of Benacre in the diocese of Norwich, dispensed to hold it and one, two, three or four mutually compatible benefices with or without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange; who holds the benefices, called prebends, of Ampelford in the church of York, with the above archdeaconry, which is a non-major dignity with cure, and St. Peter's in the church of St. John, Beverley, value together not exceeding 130l. sterling; and who lately received papal dispensation to hold for life with the said archdeaconry any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased) to hold any mutually compatible benefices of any number and kind, with or without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.
