Dispensation to receive and hold, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents, any dignities, even abbatial, priories, even conventual, personatus etc. of his order, even if they be elective and have cure. Mandate—the pope having this day ordered him to cause Philip Loring, rector of the poor hospital of St. Laurence near the walls of Limerick, to be received as a brother of the priory of the house of the hospital of SS. Mary and Edward, alias of Holy Cross, Limerick, of the order of St. Augustine, and to receive his profession, with the condition of in due course resigning the said poor hospital, which is wont to be assigned to secular clerks as a perpetual benefice, and whose value does not exceed 2 marks [above, p. 542]—to collate and assign to Philip, after he has been duly received and has made his profession, and after receiving from him the usual oath of fealty to the pope, the said priory, void by the resignation of Walter Haket to bishop John, dependent on no other monastery, and value not exceeding 25 marks, and, being conventual, reserved under the pope's late general reservation of all conventual priories; summoning and removing Philip de Geraldinis, a brother of the said house, who has for more than eight months unduly detained possession under pretext of a collation by the ordinary; whether it be void as stated, or by the death of Philip Flemyng or Laurence Dewnys, or in any other way, and have cure and be elective. Mandate, recapitulating the next following mandate—seeing that the below-named hospital has become void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the resignation of the below-named bishop (without the belowmentioned sentence having been executed and without his having had possession of the hospital) made this day to the pope by his proctor Henry Rynde, canon of Caithness—to collate and assign to the below-mentioned Patrick, after, being a brother thereof, he has duly made his profession, the said hospital, which is not conventual nor a dignity nor a personatus, and has cure, and whose value does not exceed 60l. sterling. 10 Kal. June. Florence. (f. 156.)	To the same. Mandate as below. A cause arose between Dominic, bishop of Bethlehem, and Archibald Laurencii, clerk, of the diocese of St. Andrews, about the Bethlehemite hospital of St. Germains (super hospitali Sancti Germani Cruciferorum cum stella), O.S.A., in the said diocese, which, on its voidance by the death of its rector Richard Langlandis the said bishop alleged to have been granted to him in commendam by papal authority for a certain time, and of which the said Archibald, likewise claiming it, was unduly detaining possession; and after the cause had been ventilated for some time in the papal palace before a certain auditor [not named], the said bishop obtained a definitive sentence by which the hospital was adjudged to him and perpetual silence imposed on Archibald, which sentence has become a res judicata [see above, p.488]. The pope hereby orders the above official to cause Patrick Piote, clerk, of the said diocese, to be received as a canon and brother of the said hospital, and to receive his regular profession. Dispensation, notwithstanding her illegitimacy as the daughter of unmarried parents, to receive and hold any dignities, even if they be abbatial dignities or conventual priories, administrations and offices, wont to be governed by nuns of her order, even if they be elective and have cure. 1431. 9 Kal. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 175d.)	To the bishop of Hereford, the abbot of Fountains in the diocese of York, and the prior of Durham. Mandate, at the recent petition of the Benedictine abbot and convent of St. Mary's without the walls of York, after inspecting their privileges, appropriations etc. granted by popes and ordinaries, and preserved in their archives, to approve and confirm them by papal authority. The pope grants hereby to the said abbot and convent, in the event of such approval and confirmation being made, that they shall not be bound in future to exhibit to archbishops etc. the originals, but that copies thereof shall suffice, and ordains that they shall not be bound to make any payment on the occasion of the exhibition of such copies. Grant that the abbot, present and future, shall not be bound to be present in person at convocations etc. of archbishops etc., except in the church of York in presence of the metropolitan, or other place appointed for the purpose by authority of the apostolic see or its legates, but that they may appear at such convocations etc. by their proctors. Mandate to reserve to his gift, and in due course to collate and assign to Richard Lundy, a Cistercian monk of St. Mary's, Melros, in the diocese of Glasgow, the priory of Pluscardy[n] of the order of Val-des-Choux (ordinis Vallis caulium), in the diocese of Moray, conventual, dependent on the monastery of Val-des-Choux in the diocese of Langres and wont to be governed by monks thereof, even if it be elective and have cure, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, about to become void by the provision which the pope recently ordered to be made to Andrew Symonis, then prior thereof, of the Cistercian abbey of Deere in the diocese of Aberdeen [above, pp. 543, 544].
