Mandate (the pope having been informed by Alexander Pyot, clerk, of the diocese of Dunkeld, that David Crannach, a canon of Aberdeen, has adhered to the pretended council in Basel after and against the pope's transfer of it to Ferrara, where fore have become ipso facto void his canonry of Dunkeld (fn. 2) with the prebend of Obure called the subdeanery, and his canonry of Aberdeen with the prebend called Tulinessyn) if he find the above to be true, to collate and assign the said canonries and prebends, value together not exceeding 25l. sterling, to the said Alexander. To Stephen Ker, a canon of Dunkeld, M.A. Collation etc. as below. The pope, upon the resignation to him, for purpose of exchange, by David de Crannach of a canonry of Dunkeld and a prebend called the subdeanery, and by Thomas [de Tulloch (fn. 3), now] elect of Ross, then of lower rank (fn. 4), of the parish church of Tannades in the diocese of St. Andrews. made collation and provision of the said canonry and prebend to the said elect [below, f. 222d.]. Seeing that they have become void at the apostolic see, and ipso facto reserved, by the resignation, without having had possession, made to the pope this day by the said elect, who had meanwhile been promoted to the said see (fn. 5), the pope hereby makes collation and provision to the above Stephen (who is of a race of barons, and to whom provision was recently granted of the same) of the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 8l. sterling; notwithstanding that he (who was lately [see Cal. Lett. VIII, pp. 575, 576] dispensed by papal authority to hold for life with the perpetual vicarage of Dalre in the diocese of Glasgow any one other, or if he resigned the said vicarage, any two other, benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches etc. or dignities etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased) still holds the said vicarage and the parish church called the provostship of Bothans (de Boithans, rectius Bothanis, as below, f. 224) in the said diocese of St. Andrews, the value of both not exceeding 44l. sterling, and that the pope lately made him provision of a canonry of Aberdeen and another of Moray, with reservation of as many prebends and of a dignity etc., even if elective and with cure, of one of them. To the prior of Beaulieu (de Bello loco) in the diocese of Ross [in Scotland]. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Andrew de Rose, perpetual vicar of Innerafferayn in the diocese of Ross, that Magnus Buge, aspiring to a canonry of Ross and the prebend of Kyncardyn therein, bargained with the late (?) (fn. 6) Robert Ingramson, who then held them. that if Robert would resign in favour of Magnus in such wise that provision should be made to him, Magnus would pay him a certain sum of money, which he did: that Magnus also made (to the intent that the late John [Bullock] (fn. 7), bishop of Ross, should make collation and provision to him, upon voidance by the said resignation) a bargain with the said bishop, namely that Magnus should grant him the fruits etc. for a space of four or five years, the bishop paying Magnus a certain small portion thereof; and that after the said bargains, the said Robert resigned the said canonry and prebend to the said bishop, who made collation and provision thereof, as thus void, to the said Magnus, who under pretext thereof obtained them—if the said Andrew, who is a priest, will accuse Magnus etc. as usual before the prior, to summon Magnus, and if he find the above to be true, to decree the said collation and provision null and void, and in that event to collate and assign to Andrew, if found fit, the said canonry and prebend, which have cure, value not exceeding 12l. sterling; notwithstanding that Andrew holds the said vicarage, value not exceeding 5l. sterling, which, upon obtaining the said canonry and prebend, he is to resign. Collation and provision to him (seeing that this day he in person, and David de Cramach [sic] by his proctor, John [de Crannach] (fn. 8), bishop of Brechin, have resigned to the pope, for purpose of exchange, their respective benefices, namely the parish church of Tennades [sic] in the diocese of St. Andrews and a canonry of Dunkeld and a prebend called the subdeanery) of the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 8l. sterling; notwithstanding that he holds the deanery of Ross, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, and that the present pope lately made him provision of a canonry of Dunkeld and another of Aberdeen, with reservation of as many prebends and of a dignity etc. of one of them, and dispensed him to hold for life two incompatible benefices, even if one were a dignity etc. or a parish church etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange. To Stephen Ker, perpetual vicar of St. Margaret's, Dalri, in the diocese of Glasgow, M.A. Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him, of a canonry of Glasgow and the prebend called Glasgow Primo or rectory therein (fn. 9), value not exceeding 40l. sterling, of which lately, about to become void by the promotion, made by the pope, of Alexandre [de Lauder (fn. 10) ] elect of Dunkeld, to that church, and his then forthcoming consecration, the pope ordered provision to be made to the late Donald Macnachtan, dean of Dunkeld [above, pp. 130, 131]; and which, the said Donald having died without the Roman court before they became void, are still to become void by the said promotion and consecration, the latter of which has not yet taken place; notwithstanding that he holds together by papal dispensation the said vicarage and the parish church called the provostship of Bothans (de Bothanis) in the dioceses of Glasgow and St. Andrews, value together not exceeding 40l. sterling, and that the present pope lately [above, f. 165] ordered provision to be made to him of a certain canonry and prebend of Dunkeld, of which he is not in possession, value not exceeding 8l. sterling, and previously granted him provision of a canonry of Aberdeen and another of Moray, with reservation of as many prebends and of a dignity etc., even if elective and with cure, of one of them. To Adam de Montegomorre, perpetual vicar of Stewarton in the diocese of Glasgow, M.A. Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him (a priest, of a great race of barons and nobles, a kinsman of James, king of Scots, on whose behalf both that king and Charles, king of the French, have sent letters of commendation to the pope), of the archdeaconry of Dunkeld, a non-major dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, about to become void by the promotion, made by the pope, of Alexander [Lauder (fn. 12) ] elect of Dunkeld, and by his consecration which is to take place; notwithstanding that he holds the said vicarage, value not exceeding 18l. sterling. He is hereby dispensed to hold together for life the said vicarage and archdeaconry, or any other two benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches etc. or dignities etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and the pope derogates for? this time from the pretended custom by which the said king James claims the collations of canonries and prebends and dignities etc. of the said church of Dunkeld during voidance of the see, and decrees null and void all collations and provisions of the said archdeaconry to be made from henceforth by the said king or any other.
