To the prior of St. Mary's, Durmach, in the diocese of Meath. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Donald Omaeyladgayn, scholar, of the diocese of Meath, that formerly Fergallus Oluonaym, perpetual vicar of Laindela in the said diocese, made a simoniacal bargain with the late Rory Oluonaym, priest, about the said vicarage, which Fergallus was claiming, to the effect that if Rory would give up his possession in favour of Fergallus the latter would give him for life, and did give him, a moiety of the said vicarage and, amongst other things, a certain chapel annexed to the vicarage, further promising that if Rory died first a certain son of Rory should have the said chapel, in virtue of which bargain Rory duly resigned and Fergallus obtained possession of the vicarage; and that the said Fergallus is also a notorious fornicator—if and after Donald (who was recently ordered to be dispensed by papal authority, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure) has been so dispensed and has been tonsured, and if he be found fit, and if he will accuse Fergallus etc. before the above prior, as usual, to summon Fergallus and others concerned, and if he find the above to be true, to deprive Fergallus, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value not exceeding 18 marks sterling, which was formerly, as some allege, of lay patronage, although for the past forty years three or four perpetual vicars have been successively instituted and held it without being presented by any lay patron, nor is a patron to be found in Ireland; whether it become void by such deprivation, or be void by the subsequent death without the Roman court of the above Rory, or by the resignation of the above Fergallus and Rory, or in any other way. To the prior of St. Columba's, Oransay (de Oruansa), in the diocese of Sodor. Mandate as below. The recent petition of Kenneth (Cannicus) Anguscii, priest, of the diocese of Sodor, contained that on the voidance of the perpetual vicarage of St. Finioga in Coll (Sancte Fimoge in Cola) in the said diocese by the resignation to bishop John of Fingonius Fingonii who had held it for more than a year without being ordained priest and without dispensation, the said bishop, without the consent of the chapter of Sodor, appropriated it by his ordinary authority to the nuns' monastery of St. Mary, Iona (monasterio monialium Sancte Marie Insule de I) in the said diocese; and added that John, temporal lord de Fini in the said place, opposing the said appropriation, has for more than a year taken the fruits etc. of the said vicarage, and asserts that he will continue to take them until provision is made of a fit vicar. Seeing that the said vicarage is therefore still void as above, and so long void that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, the pope hereby orders the above prior to summon the said nuns and others concerned, and to collate and assign the said vicarage, with cure and value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, whether it be void as above or in any other way, to Cannicus, removing any unlawful detainer. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Cornelius Maconaing, perpetual vicar of the united parish churches of Drong and Leachra in the diocese of Kilmore, that Thomas Osciredean, clerk, perpetual beneficiary called rector of Kede in the said diocese, is a simoniac and a notorious fornicator) if Cornelius (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, whom the pope hereby absolves from all sentences of excommunication etc. by which he may be bound, in order that he may be able to obtain the effect of these presents, and who alleges that on account of Thomas's power he has no hope of obtaining justice in the city or diocese of Kilmore) will accuse Thomas before them etc. as usual, to summon Thomas and others concerned, and if they find the above to be true, to deprive Thomas, and in that event to collate and assign the said perpetual benefice, without cure and value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to Cornelius; whether it become void by such deprivation, or be void by the death of John Ysyredean without the Roman court, or by the resignation of the late Andrew Megbradaig made in the said court, or in any other way; notwithstanding that he holds the said vicarage, value likewise not exceeding 8 marks. Mandate to collate and assign to Matthew Okellayd, priest, perpetual portionary in the church of St. Senan, Ynyskayd, in the diocese of Killaloe (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he obtained a certain perpetual portion called conventual (fn. 1) in the said church of St. Senan) the perpetual vicarage of Kyllarda in the said diocese, value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, so long void by the death without the Roman court of Kearuallus Ykellayd that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, although Philip Okellayd, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, taking possession under pretext of a collation made to him by authority of the ordinary after the said lapse, has unduly detained it for more than four years but less than five; notwithstanding that he holds the said portion, with cure and value not exceeding 20s. sterling. Mandate (the pope having been informed by William de Burgo, clerk, of the diocese of Clonfert, that after Martin V had reserved to himself and his successors absolution from all sentences etc. on account of simony, Donatus Omuriga, after he had resigned the rectory of Dundaygre for purpose of exchange for the perpetual vicarage of Kyllcrumchir in the said diocese, he, seeking by unlawful means to re-enter the said rectory, promised and paid money to William Ofathy, who in virtue of the said exchange had obtained it, in order that he might exchange with him again, and also to the lay patron of the said rectory, in order to obtain his consent, thereby incurring the said sentences etc., after which Donatus and William resigned the said vicarage and rectory respectively, for alleged purpose of exchange, to Thomas, bishop of Clonfert, who carried out the exchange, under pretext of which Donatus obtained the said rectory, and unduly detains possession. The pope therefore orders the above dean to summon Donatus and others concerned, and if he find the above to be true, to decree the said bishop's collation and provision to Donatus null and void, and in that event to collate and assign the said rectory, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, to the above William de Burgo, who, without mentioning his illegitimacy, as the son of a married man and an unmarried woman related in the third and fourth degrees of affinity, had himself made a clerk, who on account of Donatus's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Clonfert, and whom the pope hereby dispenses to act as a clerk and to be promoted to all, even holy orders and receive and hold the said rectory. Mandate to collate and assign to Donald Magcathassayd, clerk, of the diocese of Clogher, the perpetual vicarage of Tuygnen in the diocese of Armagh, value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, so long void (because Donald Ocellachan, priest, of the diocese of Armagh obtained, when holding it, the priorship of the Culdees in the church of Armagh, (fn. 2) a non-major dignity therein) that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see; summoning and removing the said Donald Ocellachan, who has for more than twelve years continued to detain possession after obtaining the said priorship; whether it be void as stated, or by the resignation of the said Donald Ocellachan, or in any other way. Magcathassayd is hereby dispensed on account of illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold the said vicarage, and two other, or without it three other, benefices with or without cure, compatible with one another, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and the pope hereby admits the cession which has been made to him this day of Magcathassayd's right in or to the rectory de Detechcalan (sic) in the said diocese of Clogher, provision of which the present pope granted to him. To the bishop of Ossero (Ausaren.) and the abbots of Holyrood, Edynburgh, and Melios (sic), in the dioceses of St. Andrews and Glasgow. Mandate, at the recent petition of William Person, clerk, of the diocese of St. Andrews (containing that after the pope had transferred the General Council from Basel to Ferrara and had forbidden all to remain at Basel under pain of excommunication etc. and deprivation etc., he, not in ignorance thereof, impetrated a certain benefice, then void or about to become void, from Amedeus, sometime duke of Savoy, who calls himself Felix V, although he did not prosecute the said impetration, and, remaining in the said city, adhered to the said Amedeus, thereby incurring the said sentences etc.), after receiving from the said William (who was formerly dispensed as the son of unmarried parents by authority of the ordinary to be tonsured, and afterwards, by letters of the present pope ordering provision to be made to him of a benefice with or without cure in the gift of the Augustinian abbots and convents of Canyskamale and Jedworde in the dioceses of St. Andrews and Glasgow, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice comprehended in the said letters) an oath of obedience to the pope and his successors, to absolve him from the said sentences etc., enjoining penance, and rehabilitate him, and in that event to collate and assign to him the parish church of Malvil in the said diocese [of St. Andrews], value not exceeding 20l. sterling, void by the death of William Bel. He is hereby dispensed, on account of the said defect etc., to receive and hold it, and as soon as he obtains it the pope's said other letters shall be void as far as regards a benefice with cure only. Mandate to collate and assign to Donald Omulmoyd, priest, of the diocese of Meath (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of unmarried parents related in the simple third degree of kindred, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure; who, having been so promoted, obtained the rectory, which had been collated to him by papal authority and which he afterwards resigned, of St. Colman's, Layndela, in the said diocese; and who formerly, having been closely imprisoned (fn. 3) and being unable to obtain his liberty until he took oath not to impetrate the said rectory within or without the Roman court, took the said oath, forcibly extorted from him by means of Eugenius alias Uathne Omulmoyd, sometime rector of the said church, which oath the pope hereby relaxes, decreeing Donald not to be bound to observe it) the said rectory, value not exceeding 34 marks sterling, so long void, because the said Eugenius, after obtaining it by canonical collation, held possession for more than a year without being ordained priest and without dispensation, that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see; summoning and removing the said Eugenius who has, after the end of the said year and after the said lapse, unlawfully detained it for about two years without any right; whether it be void as above, or by the resignation of the said Eugenius, or in any other way. To William, abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Kyl-wyni[n]g, in the diocese of Glasgow. Provision as below. Lately, upon the voidance of the said monastery by the death without the Roman court of Adam, during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope, the convent decided to proceed by way of scrutiny. The three monks who were appointed scrutatores gathered, secretly and under seal, first their own votes and then the votes of all the convent, drew them up in writing and published them before the convent, whereupon, it being found that the greater and sounder part of the convent had directed their votes upon the said William, one of the said scrutatores in the place and in the name of the whole convent elected him, a monk of the said monastery, professed of the said order and in priest's orders, who consented, and who afterwards, upon learning the said reservation, caused the matter of the said election which, and their consequences, were and are void, to be set forth in consistory before the pope, who hereby makes provision to him of the said monastery, still void and reserved as above. The archdeacon is also to grant that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall thereafter receive and send Cornelius's oath of fealty as usual; without prejudice to the archbishop of Tuam, to whom the said monastery is by ordinary right subject.
