Jan. 16.	1773. Guido Jannetti to Cecil.
	Forwards the demands of the Orators of King Charles made to the Council of Trent for the reformation of the Church, both as regards doctrine and polity. The Romans admit that there has been a corruption of discipline, but will never confess to errors of faith. Reflections upon the probable issue. The French and Spanish fathers (who are the most learned) press for a reformation, but are resisted by the Romans. Discussions upon episcopal jurisdiction and authority. 	On 16th January sent to him the demands made in the name of King Charles to the Legates of the Council of Trent Now sends the chief heads of the Emperor's book presented to the same Legates, the book itself being kept back with the greatest strictness. The Portuguese bishops also have presented their demands. The Cardinal of Lorraine has forwarded to the Pope the reforms demanded by the French. Rejoicings had at first been made at Trent for the victory gained by the Guises, and on 10th January the Cardinal of Guise sang Mass for the defeat of the Sacramentarians.
