4 June. Estado, 839. Latin.	604. James VI. to Philip II. Begs favour for two of his subjects, John Mowbray and Christopher Birkhead, now in the galleys in Spain ; and complains of the large number of Scotsmen who are thus captured and kept in durance.— St. Cross (Holyrood), 4th June 1591.
30 June. Paris Archives, K. 1450.	605. The King to Bernardino De Mendoza. Your letter of the 12th May received with enclosures. Although Antonio de Frias Salazar, of whom you speak, arrived before the letter, the latter came in good time to inform us fully upon the matter. He has been given audience, and has been listened to. A decision shall be arrived at as soon as possible, the matter being now under consideration. I have no more to say, as all your letters have been answered, and I do not know whether you have set out upon your journey.—San Lorenzo, 30th June 1591.
