Feb. 3. The Treasury Lords to the Lord Lieutenant, Ireland. In answer to ours of Nov. 25 last, supra, Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. IX, p. 1913, you inform us that Mr. Price, late Receiver General of Ireland, stands indebted 14,704l. 19s. 1d. on the foot of his account and that Exchequer process (which lies against body, lands and goods) is best for levying same: but that Price claims several allowances since the stating of his accounts, some of which may be reasonable. Please cause his accounts, as you advise, to be stated by the Commissioners for Stating the Accounts of the Receivers General and levy the balance on his estate in Ireland, which is reputed to be of good value. Report to the Treasury Lords [from William Blathwayt] on the petition of Abraham Lloyd, ut supra, p. 13. I am informed by the Agents of the Leeward Islands that William Lloyd, brother of petitioner, was convicted in March last of the wilful murdering of Thomas Johnson of Antigua and executed in June: that after the act and before his conviction he conveyed all his estate in trust for his brother, and after the execution the trustees were admitted to have a good title to the negroes, slaves, sugar, cotton, and other chattels, but the houses and lands being forfeited by the act of murder were found escheated and were granted away by the Governor with the consent of the Council, also certain debts by bonds and otherwise were put in possession of the escheator, but inquisition thereon was deferred. Col. Codrington, the Governor, may be directed to permit petitioner to sue for and recover said debts in name of the Crown. Out Letters (Plantations Auditor) I, pp. 394–5.

Feb. 8. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General, Ireland, for a great seal containing an indenture between the King and Andrew Corbet for the coining and vending of copper farthings and halfpence for nine years from 1693, Lady day, not exceeding 120 tons of copper in any one of the first four years and 60 tons in any of the last five years, and to pay or give in exchange such copper farthings and halfpence for the like number or tale of farthings and half pence of tin coined under Charles II, James II or their present Majesties, and further to pay a rent of 1,000l. per an. to the Crown: the King having accepted his proposal as tending to the convenience and accommodation of the subject in trade and commerce by way of retail and to obviate the loss and damage now frequently suffered by the subject by the great quantities of counterfeit farthings and half pence resembling tin which are daily imposed upon them. The said coins to be made or coined at the house now or lately used for making farthings of tin and half pence, situate in New Street, without Bishops-gate, or at some other place in London at Corbet's choice: the copper to be good, pure and merchantable: 1 lb. avoirdupois of copper not to make more than 24 pence with a remedy of two farthings per lb.: he to have power to utter, issue and disperse same to his best advantage in England, Wales, Berwick or any of the Colonies or Plantations in America: the coins to be made with engines or instruments having on the one side the effigies or portraictures with the names or titles of their Majesties and on the other side the figure of a woman sitting on a globe and a shield with the word Britannia with the year and any other mark proper for the said engines or instruments.
Same shall pass and be generally used between any persons that shall and will voluntarily and willingly pay and receive the same as tokens or pieces of the value of a fourth and a half of a penny respectively, all other persons prohibited to make or import such farthings and half pence in England, Wales or the said Plantations, in order to which Corbet is to have right of entry and search in any suspected place, ship, etc., and to keep to himself without account any tools or coins there found and seized.
Corbet on his side to covenant to make so many of said coins as will suffice to change all the tin farthings and half pence which shall be brought to be exchanged and without difficulty or delay and at face value and so many more as shall suffice for the accommodation of the subject in the change of small moneys and retailing trade in England, Wales and the said Plantations, but within the limits of quantity aforesaid.
Upon the changing of the said tin coins Corbett is to melt same down for his own use so that none shall ever afterwards be uttered or vended or remain unmelted for above 14 days after the receiving them.
Corbet to submit to Treasury inspection: and to have the use of the house in New Street as above for so many years of his term as the Crown lease thereof will run and the use of their Majesties' tools and instruments therein, but same to be returned at the end of the term herein.
Feb. 8. Royal warrant to Brook Bridges and Thomas Done, Auditors of Imprests, to allow to the Earl of Ranelagh, without deductions, in his account for the Forces for the year ended 1691, Dec. 31, the 18,000l. which by direction of the Treasury Lords he paid to Sir Joseph Herne by bills of exchange payable to the Duke of Savoy in Geneva and Leghorn.
